Chapter 514 The Brawl in the Small Inn

Ethan realized things were way more complicated than he thought.

"So, if we break your soul bond with Requiem Tower and you’re no longer its spirit, does that mean our soul contract is toast too?" Ethan blurted out.

"Nah, it’s different. Our soul contract has zilch to do with Requiem Tower. You can control the Tower with a spell, and with my help, it’ll be even better. But our contract? That’s just between us," Angel explained, making Ethan feel kinda special.

"So, what’s our deal then?" Ethan asked, finding the whole thing kinda funny.

"A master-servant thing. You’re my host. I get what you’re worried about, but chill, I won’t stab you in the back," Angel said with a cheerful grin, sensing Ethan’s concerns.

Ethan felt a weird vibe, like Angel was pledging her loyalty to him.

Thanks to Angel’s words, Ethan ditched his worries and decided to help her find her physical body.

"Alright, let’s head out tomorrow. You can sense where your body is, so I’ll help you track it down," Ethan decided on the spot.

"Awesome, I can finally get my body back!" Angel clapped her hands excitedly, her innocent and cheerful vibe making her seem harmless. Hard to believe she had a scary side in front of those prison souls.

No matter if Angel would leave him, Ethan was set on helping her find her body and memories, as long as they could be found. The more she knew, the better chance Ethan had of finding clues about Matthew.

The next day, after Chloe and the others left for work, Ethan told Jessie he was going on a long trip and wasn’t sure when he’d be back, asking her to fill Chloe and the others in later.

"Why don’t you tell them yourself?" Jessie asked with a wry smile.

"If I do, they’ll all freak out. I don’t wanna see them like that," Ethan sighed.

"Knowing folks at home are worried about you, you better come back safe and soon. I won’t ask why you’re going, just remember to come back early," Jessie advised earnestly.

"Got it, I’m outta here," Ethan replied with a smile and then drove off from the villa.

Following Angel’s directions, her body was somewhere in the northwest, pretty far away. After confirming the direction, Ethan stared at the GPS map, feeling kinda speechless.

The northwest was mostly barren land and desert. Ethan was really worried Angel’s words would lead him into no-man’s land. But since he’d already agreed, even if it was an uninhabited area, he had to suck it up and go through with it. With his Half-Step Grandmaster strength, crossing the desert on foot wouldn’t be a problem, though it might seem crazy to others.

Heading west, after half a day's trek, Ethan found himself in the barren, sparsely populated northwest.

He kept bugging Angel, double-checking if they were on the right track. All she could say was that her body felt closer.

Ethan started feeling like he’d been duped. Angel couldn’t give him an exact location, just a general area and direction. Luckily, one thing was clear: the closer they got, the stronger her sense would be.

By nightfall, Ethan hit the desert’s edge. The next town on the map looked like the last stop before the desert. He decided to crash there for the night and hit the desert in the morning.

At a small inn in town, Ethan rented a room, locked himself in, and started meditating while chatting with Angel in his mind.

"Can you tell how far we are now?" Ethan figured they should reach their destination in another day. If not, they’d be crossing the northwest border into another country.

Thinking about it gave Ethan a headache. He really hoped her body wasn’t in some weird foreign place.

"We’re getting closer. I can feel it. Another day should do it," Angel said seriously.

Another day meant they wouldn’t cross the border but would be close. Just then, Ethan sensed something and snapped out of his meditation. He felt two Half-Step Grandmasters with four peak-level warriors entering the inn.

Finding so many experts in a remote town on the desert’s edge was odd. But they didn’t seem to be after him. They rented three rooms and went to rest.

"Didn’t expect to find so many experts here. And here come three more!" Before Ethan could pull back his senses, he noticed three more Half-Step Grandmasters entering the inn. These three seemed to be targeting the six who arrived earlier.

"This is gonna be interesting. Looks like I won’t get any sleep tonight," Ethan sighed, not wanting to get mixed up in warrior business. This seemed like something Celestia Vale should handle. Plus, these experts were only Half-Step Grandmasters, so Celestia Vale probably wouldn’t bother with such small fry.

As night fell, just as Ethan expected, the three Half-Step Grandmasters who arrived later sneaked up to the rooms of the six experts, planning a surprise attack. But the others were ready. As soon as the three made a move, they were busted.

In no time, the quiet inn turned into a battleground. The nine of them fought from inside to outside, evenly matched, waking up all the guests and the innkeeper.

"Looks like it’s gonna be a sleepless night," Ethan sighed, his meditation interrupted again.
