Chapter 291 The Inquiry

"Dad, Caspar and Kenny will be here soon," Within the grand old estate of the Salvador family, Jim pushed open the door to Rex's study and walked in to report.

Rex, with his graying temples, looked aged, but his deeply wrinkled face bore an unusual flush, making him appear quite eerie and uncomfortable. He was looking at a foreign language book in his hand and said indifferently without lifting his head, "Yes, Caspar's return at this time must be about Gino!"

"Are you really not planning to tell Caspar about what happened back then?" Jim, evidently aware of Rex's decision, asked hesitantly.

"No one is to mention this matter again, including you!" Jim's inquiry clearly hit Rex's nerves. He put down the book in his hand and slapped the table with a stern warning.

"I understand!" A flash of anger crossed Jim's eyes, but he ultimately nodded in resignation.

"Let's go. We'll meet Caspar and Kenny together!" Rex nodded in satisfaction, then got up and walked out of the room.

The convoy escorting Caspar and Kenny stopped in the garden-like courtyard of the Salvador family's old estate. As they got out of the car, they saw Rex and Jim already walking out from the main building.

On either side stood the Salvador family's guards, each looking imposing and exuding an air of arrogance, making Caspar and Kenny feel anything but warmly welcomed.

Caspar was long accustomed to the Salvador family's ways and paid it no mind.

In the past, Kenny would have been displeased, perhaps even showing his discontent openly. As the heir of the Ashford family, he was used to being surrounded by people with smiling faces wherever he went.

However, after Ethan's recent blow, Kenny seemed to have matured significantly. At least, from his current demeanor, there was no sign of emotional fluctuation.

Jim, who had met Kenny once in Everglow City, was surprised at Kenny's composure.

Jim pondered, 'Did Kenny change in just a few days?'

"Dad, why did you come out yourself? You should have waited for Kenny and me to go in!" Seeing Rex, Caspar immediately smiled and greeted him respectfully.

"You are the Madam of the Ashford family, and Kenny is the heir. This is just a courtesy from the Salvador family," Rex said, his eyes scrutinizing Kenny.

"Kenny, aren't you going to greet your grandpa?" Caspar immediately reminded Kenny.

Jim stared at Kenny, curious. He knew Kenny's temper well and was eager to see how he would respond.

"Grandpa, how are you?" Kenny said.

Jim's expression turned peculiar. He thought, 'Kenny, who is always too proud to regard anyone, is now behaving so out of character.'

"I'm fine. Thank you!" Rex nodded nonchalantly and turned to walk into the hall. "Come in!"

Hearing this, everyone followed Rex into the hall. After they were seated, Rex asked Caspar, "You didn't come back to Sunridge just to visit me, right?"

Caspar hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and revealed the purpose of her visit, "Dad, I came back this time to visit you and to talk about Gino. Gino is in Everglow City!"

"Gino? Didn't Gino die thirty years ago?" Rex responded calmly.

"No, Gino didn't die. Didn't Jim tell you? Gino is still alive; he's in Everglow City, and we all saw him!" Caspar immediately stood up, agitated.

"I don't care who you saw. To me, Gino has been dead for a long time. Don't mention him in front of me again!" Rex snorted coldly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

"Why? What happened back then? Why won't you acknowledge Gino? Did you know about Gino's disappearance, or are you hiding something from me?" Caspar was unable to control her emotions whenever Gino was mentioned. Her voice rose, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

"How dare you!" Rex's face turned sullen, and he slapped the table.

"Caspar, how can you speak to Dad like that?" Jim immediately reminded Caspar.

"I'm sorry, Dad. I got a bit emotional. But Gino is your son. Why are you doing this?" Caspar looked at Rex with a complex expression, clearly unwilling to give up.
