Chapter 435 The First Job

Beverly's face turned a bit red when she heard that. She glanced around, not spotting who she was looking for, and let out a sigh of relief.

"Heading out?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, curious.

"Got a meeting with a business partner. If you're free, wanna tag along?" Beverly's eyes lit up, suggesting quickly.

"I'm here to see Jayden. Is he around?" Ethan shook his head, feeling like Beverly was trying to ditch him, like she didn't want him inside the company.

"I think he went out. Maybe later?" Beverly shrugged, looking a bit helpless.

"Are you hiding something from me?" Ethan stared into Beverly's eyes, feeling more and more like she was guilty, like a thief trying to dodge the cops.

"Alright, alright. I know I can't fool you, but promise me you won't do anything crazy!" Beverly sighed, knowing once Ethan got suspicious, there was no shaking him off. She looked uneasy and pleaded.

"What's up?" Ethan's brows knitted together.

"Logan's here, upstairs! He's demanding to see me, but Jayden's keeping him at bay!" Beverly explained, looking defeated.

"So you're just gonna avoid him?" Ethan wasn't surprised, and even looked at Beverly with a smirk.

"He'll leave if he can't find me, right? No need to face him head-on now!" Beverly explained.

"That's nuts. We shouldn't have to hide from some random dude in our own company. If word gets out, we'll be a joke!" Ethan reminded her.

"You don't seem surprised. Did you know Logan was coming?" Beverly asked, curious about Ethan's reaction.

"He just landed in Novaria, and I already knew." Ethan let out a cold laugh, not bragging.

Logan had just hit Novaria and made a beeline for the Cloud Group. Alexander had tipped Ethan off earlier, warning him Logan might stir up trouble, so Ethan brought Trevor along.

"So, what's your plan for him?" Beverly asked, uneasy.

"Chill. I don't care about dealing with a brainless guy like him. It's not even fun to squash him." Ethan saw Beverly's worry and chuckled.

"Then why are you here?" Beverly asked, suspicious.

"Logan might not cause much trouble, but his nagging is annoying. I brought you a bodyguard. If Logan shows up, have him tossed out!" Ethan said, pushing the still-confused Trevor in front of Beverly.

Beverly had noticed the bald guy in a T-shirt next to Ethan but hadn't asked.

When Ethan said he was there to protect her, Beverly was even more surprised.

Not just Beverly, even Trevor was stunned for a moment.

"I've got plenty of bodyguards. Is this really necessary?" Beverly said, looking at Trevor like the idea was too weird.

"Do you think he's just a regular bodyguard? He's a legit Half-Step Grandmaster!" Ethan didn't expect Beverly to be so dismissive and reminded her, a bit speechless.

"Hold up, Ethan, you want me to be her bodyguard?" Trevor cut in, looking totally shocked.

"Didn't you say you wanted a normal life? Well, here's your shot; think of it as your first gig," Ethan explained with a wink, making Trevor feel all kinds of confused.

But how could Trevor know what Ethan was scheming?

"He's a Half-Step Grandmaster?"

Beverly was floored, finally catching on.

She couldn't wrap her head around the idea of Trevor, the bald dude, being a Half-Step Grandmaster!

Ethan grinned, making both Beverly and Trevor shiver a bit.

"Beverly's safety is on you. This is your first job, so don't screw it up!" Ethan patted Trevor's shoulder, his expression turning all mysterious again.

"Isn't it too obvious having him protect me? Plus, I can't afford a high salary!" Beverly said, feeling a bit guilty as she glanced at Ethan.

"He's doing it for free! But if you feel like you gotta pay him, forget the salary. How about considering marrying him?" Ethan's next words made Beverly want to dig a hole and hide!

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Beverly snapped, turning and heading for the elevator, scared Ethan might say something even crazier, making it impossible for her to stay in the company.

"What are you standing there for? Go after her; you're her personal bodyguard now!" Ethan rarely saw Beverly so flustered and found it hilarious. He patted the still-dazed Trevor to get him moving.

"Can I switch jobs?" Trevor asked, looking torn.

"Nope, Beverly's my cousin, and she's gonna have a lot of people bugging her soon. Your job is to handle those folks! And hey, she's single. Put in some effort, and you might win her over. Don't say I never gave you a chance!" Ethan said seriously.

"I really haven't thought about relationships." Trevor got all anxious, trying to explain to Ethan.

"Beverly's already gone. Hurry up and catch up!" Ethan cut him off, dragging him along to follow Beverly.

In the elevator, Ethan looked at Beverly's blushed face and Trevor's confused expression, finding it all pretty funny.

Luckily, the elevator doors opened after a few seconds.

Beverly was the first to rush out. Ethan then gave the slow-moving Trevor a kick in the butt!

"Your target's leaving, what are you standing around for?" Ethan glared at Trevor.

"You promised me you wouldn't do anything rash!" Beverly suddenly stopped and, when Ethan caught up, she seriously reminded him.

"Don't worry. With him around, I won't need to do anything." Ethan pointed at Trevor and nodded slowly.

"He can't do anything rash either. Since you said he's my bodyguard, he should listen to me, right?" Beverly glared at Ethan, seemingly accepting the idea of Trevor as her bodyguard.

"Of course!" Ethan nodded like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Beverly nodded, satisfied, and walked up to Trevor. "I'm Beverly. What should I call you?"

"I...I'm Trevor Wilson!" Trevor stammered, looking super nervous at Beverly's sudden question.

Ethan found it hilarious. Even when facing Chloe and others, Trevor hadn't stuttered!
