Chapter 549 The Enthusiastic Cynthia

Half an hour later, with Ethan feeling a bit jittery, they finally rolled up to Angela's place.

Marco Turner, the security guard, looked like he'd seen a ghost. He spotted Ethan in the passenger seat of Angela's car, and besides her dad, Lorenzo Lopez, he’d never seen another dude in that spot.

Normally, Marco would've lifted the barrier way before the car even got close. But he was so shocked that Angela's car had already pulled up by the time he snapped out of it.

Luckily, Angela wasn't speeding, and she hit the brakes just in time to avoid smashing into the barrier.

"Marco, what the heck are you doing? Didn't you see my car?" Angela asked, rolling down her window, clearly annoyed.

"Sorry, I spaced out." Marco shook himself back to reality, eyeing Ethan curiously as he finally raised the barrier.

Ethan caught Marco's look and found it kinda funny.

"Hold up, why are you on gate duty today? Where's the rest of the security team?" Angela noticed something was off. She glanced at the post and saw only two hired guards and the captain, looking more puzzled by the second.

"Don't even get me started. I lost a bet to Leo Martinez and had to cover his shift. Who knows where he's off having fun while I'm stuck here?" Marco said, looking pretty sour about it.

"This is nuts. You, a Turner, and him, a Martinez, treating gate duty like a joke. Just wait till I tell your dad." Angela's face turned serious, giving off major boss vibes.

"No, please don't! I swear it won't happen again," Marco panicked, pleading with her.

"We'll see. If it weren't for our families being tight, do you think I'd put up with this crap?" Angela shot Marco a glare.

"Angela, aren't you gonna introduce me to this guy?" Marco, seeing Angela ease up, perked up and grinned at Ethan.

"His name's Ethan Wilson, and he's my friend. And you better keep your mouth shut. If I hear any rumors, you'll regret it," Angela warned, looking a bit embarrassed.

"I wouldn't dare. I enjoy breathing, thanks. Don't worry, your secret's safe with me." Marco's eyes twinkled, nodding with a cheeky smile.

Ethan was speechless. Marco was clearly fishing for info, trying to figure out who he was. Soon enough, the whole neighborhood might know Angela brought a boyfriend home.

"Smart move," Angela snorted, brushing off Marco.

"That guy's a trip!" Ethan glanced back at the gate and saw Marco giving him a thumbs-up.

"He's from the Turner family, named Marco," Angela said casually.

"The Turner family?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, the Turners and the Lopezes go way back. They're not as big as the Martinez or Walker families, but they're still a military family. The Leo he mentioned is from the Martinez family, same as Norman, but he's not Norman's direct grandson," Angela explained.

Ethan nodded, getting the gist.

As they chatted, Angela's car pulled into the driveway of a villa. Before they could even step out, the front door swung open, and two figures appeared.

No need to guess, Ethan figured the middle-aged couple must be Angela's parents.

"What rank is your dad now?" Ethan suddenly realized he didn't know much about the Lopez family and quickly asked.

"My dad's a lieutenant general too. He focuses on military research, not in the same unit as me," Angela reminded him.

Ethan nodded, piecing it together that Lorenzo was also a tech whiz.

"We came in a rush and didn't grab any gifts. Hope that's cool," Seeing Lorenzo and Cynthia approaching, Ethan quickly got out of the car to greet them.

"You must be Ethan. Just having you here is enough. We're all family; no need for gifts." Cynthia grabbed Ethan's hand, her face lighting up with joy.

Ethan stiffened, thinking Cynthia was a bit too enthusiastic.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Angela quickly stepped forward, pulling Cynthia's hand off Ethan's, worried the neighbors might see them in the yard.

"This is the first time you've brought a boyfriend home. I'm just happy," Cynthia explained, looking a bit miffed.

"Let's talk inside," Angela urged her.

"Right, let's go inside. I'll whip up a few extra dishes tonight so Ethan can taste my cooking," Cynthia said, quickly inviting Ethan in.

Ethan smiled wryly, not even getting a chance to chat with Lorenzo before being ushered inside.

In the living room, Cynthia dragged Angela into the kitchen, leaving Ethan to sit on the sofa with Lorenzo.

Luckily, Lorenzo was more chill than Cynthia, which made Ethan feel a bit more at ease.

"I heard from Norman that you're at the master level. Didn't know our military had someone like that," Lorenzo said with interest after inviting Ethan to sit.
