Chapter 269 They Were Both Friends And Enemies
"Kenny, Gino, surely, is hard to get a hold of. Do you think he's deliberately avoiding you?" Once in the car, Magnus asked Kenny.
"Avoid me? Does he really think he can avoid me?" Kenny scoffed dismissively.
"So, are we just going to wait here?" Magnus asked helplessly.
"If you can't wait, you can go back first. I'll wait here alone!" Kenny seemed determined to see Gino, leaving Magnus no choice but to stay and wait with him.
In the Midnight Oasis manager's office, Gino was looking through the blinds at the car parked at the entrance, his expression complicated.
He had already been informed when Kenny and Magnus arrived.
"Boss, it looks like they really want to see you. How do you want to handle this?" The head of security asked, standing in front of the desk with a helpless expression.
"Fine, let him come up. I'm not going down!" Gino sighed after a long silence and instructed the head of security.
A few minutes later, Kenny entered Gino's office alone.
"I knew you were here and that you'd see me!" Seeing Gino sitting in the chair, Kenny sat down on the sofa opposite him and said calmly.
"Mr. Ashford, what do you want from me?" Gino asked with a frown.
"That title sounds really grating. You're my uncle," Kenny reminded with a slight frown of dissatisfaction.
"I've already made it clear to you and your mother. I have nothing to do with the Salvador family anymore, and naturally, nothing to do with you. Just treat me as a stranger!" Gino retorted seriously.
"Do you really have nothing to do with the Salvador family?" Kenny stared intently at Gino, but seeing no response for a long time, he sighed. "Forget it. I just wanted to tell you that my mom and I are returning to the Salvador family early tomorrow morning. I believe you know why."
Gino was surprised at Kenny's words.
He hadn't expected Caspar to be so persistent. He really didn't want to bring up the past, nor did he want her to know, but it was clear that once Caspar and Kenny returned to the Salvador family, they would inevitably learn everything.
Whether what they learned was the truth was another matter.
At that moment, Gino really wanted to stop Kenny and persuade Caspar to give up on returning, but on second thought, he gave up.
He thought, 'If Caspar and Kenny return to the Salvador family now, it might avoid a direct conflict with Ethan and save me from being caught in the middle.'
Seeing Gino silent but conflicted, Kenny suddenly laughed. "I know you don't want us to go back, and you don't want my mom to know the truth about why you left the Salvador family. Unfortunately, I'm even more curious than my mom. Will you tell me yourself, or should I find out when I get back to the Salvador family?"
Gino stared at Kenny for a long time before sighing. "Since you've already decided, then go back. I don't want to talk about the past."
"You should know that what you say and what my grandpa says will definitely differ. Aren't you afraid my mom will be heartbroken?" Kenny reminded with a frown.
"So what? If she believes me, no matter what your grandpa says, she won't believe it. If she does believe your grandpa, maybe that's not a bad outcome." Gino shook his head indifferently.
"Looks like this trip was a waste. In that case, I'll take my leave. It won't be long before I return to Everglow City. I don't know how the Salvador family will treat you this time, but when we come back, we'll have to meet. You can't escape!" Kenny said, then got up and left Gino's office decisively.
Standing by the window, watching Kenny's car finally leave the parking lot, Gino returned to his chair and let out a long sigh of relief. "Looks like I can't hide it anymore. It's time to settle the score with the Salvador family!"
Gino shook his head with a bitter smile, then took a letter from the drawer and asked his secretary to mail it.
Not long after Kenny left, Ethan appeared in Gino's office.
"Ethan, Stellar Nexus Enterprises is opening today. How come you have time to come to me?" Gino was somewhat surprised at Ethan's appearance right after Kenny's departure.
"I have something to discuss with you. But judging by your expression, do you have something on your mind? Is it because of Caspar and Kenny?" Ethan sat down with a smile, curious about Gino's troubled look.
"To be honest, Kenny just left my office. He said he and Caspar are returning to the Salvador family tomorrow." Gino nodded with a bitter smile.
"Kenny is not easy to deal with. It feels like he's a different person after spending a few days in the military camp. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!" Ethan shook his head helplessly.
"So, what brings you here?" Gino shifted the topic.
"You should know my situation these past few days. Once Stellar Nexus Enterprises is on track, my business in Everglow City will be mostly wrapped up. I'm planning to return to Novaria soon, so I came to say goodbye!" Ethan explained with a smile.
"And? Even if it's a farewell, you didn't have to come here in the middle of the night, right?" Gino didn't believe Ethan came to talk about returning to Novaria.
"There's indeed something I need you to help me with immediately," Ethan said after some hesitation.
"As long as it's within my power, I won't help you!" Gino agreed right away.
"You should have a way to contact Francis, right? The Monastery doesn't even have a phone, and he doesn't use a cell phone. How do you guys communicate?" Ethan asked.
"Usually, Francis and I communicate through letters. I just sent him a letter before you arrived. Even with expedited mail, it will take two or three days to reach him. If it's urgent, sending someone from Novaria to Emerald Valley would be faster!" Gino explained awkwardly.
"You guys really use the most primitive form of communication?" Ethan hadn't expected their communication to be so troublesome. It seemed contacting Francis immediately would be difficult.
"Are you facing some trouble?" Gino probed.
"Not exactly trouble, just some things I want to ask him. But I'll have to wait until tomorrow to send a friend to Emerald Valley," Ethan explained with a helpless shake of his head.
"What do you want to ask? Maybe I know something and can help clarify!" Gino asked with concern.
"Phoenix asked me to visit Misty Ridge. Since I'm planning to return to Novaria soon, I need to decide whether to make a detour," Ethan hesitated for a moment before explaining the situation to Phoenix.
"Phoenix invited you to Misty Ridge?" Gino immediately frowned.
"Do you think I shouldn't go?" Seeing his unusual expression, Ethan asked suspiciously.
"It's not what I mean. If Phoenix invited you, you could go if it's on the way. But you probably don't know the past between Phoenix and Francis. Phoenix and him are both friends and enemies!" Gino shook his head repeatedly, but his explanation left Ethan feeling even more confused.
