Chapter 318 Trouble at Emerald Vein
Jesse looked even more confused. "I don't get it. Just say it straight!"
"It's simple. Let's make a bet. Once you're fully healed, if you can stick with me for seven days without me shaking you off, I'll give you the beads. Deal?" Ethan said with a grin.
"Are you serious?" Jesse's eyes lit up.
"Absolutely. But if you lose, you have to promise to leave me alone and stop going after my beads," Ethan added.
"My injuries will take at least ten days to heal. But in seven days, I'm sure you won't shake me off. I have three conditions, though. If you agree, I'll take the bet," Jesse said after thinking it over.
"Three conditions? Really?" Ethan thought Jesse wasn't going to be easy to fool.
"Yeah. You can't use outside help. Like, if you fly abroad or go somewhere I can't follow, it's not fair," Jesse explained.
Ethan's mouth twitched. He hadn't expected Jesse to catch on to his plan! He'd planned to hide out at the Nightfall Brigade camp and then slip away for a day or two. But Jesse was sharper than he thought!
"Alright, let's hear them," Ethan said, feeling both frustrated and challenged. He couldn't believe he would lose!
"First, you can't leave the country. Second, you can't go to places I can't enter. Third, you can't ask experts for help," Jesse listed his conditions.
"Fine. You're just worried I'll call for backup. I won't involve Francis," Ethan agreed impatiently.
"Then I accept the bet!" Jesse's eyes sparkled.
"If you lose, you have to stop bothering me!" Ethan reminded him, feeling uneasy.
"Sure. If I lose, it's fate. I'll go back and face my master's punishment. But my master might send someone else," Jesse said helplessly.
Ethan felt like he'd shot himself in the foot. If he got rid of Jesse only for someone like Ronald or Larry to come after him, it could be even worse.
"Alright, it's a deal!" Ethan agreed reluctantly. He couldn't back out now without losing face.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Ethan thought the timing couldn't be worse. He opened the door to find Chloe and Sarah standing there, with Chloe holding Camila.
"You said you'd be out before dark, but it's already pitch black, and we haven't heard a word from you. If we hadn't heard voices inside, we would've thought something happened to you!" Sarah said, relieved but annoyed.
"What could happen to me? I was just chatting with Jesse and forgot to let you know," Ethan said with a wry smile.
"Is he awake? Is he alright now?" Chloe asked, glancing at Jesse with concern.
"I'm fine now. A few days of rest will do. Thanks for asking!" Jesse quickly replied.
"By the way, the guy I saw near the villa that day, that's him, right? He's interesting," Sarah said, suddenly remembering.
"Yeah, who knows how he followed me to Novaria?" Ethan sighed.
"Jesse, I heard you went to find... a lady and didn't pay. Is that true?" Sarah's next question nearly made Ethan and Jesse collapse!
Ethan hadn't expected Sarah to be so blunt, rubbing salt in Jesse's wound while Jesse looked like he was about to cry.
"Alright, why are you asking that? How do you expect him to answer? Let him rest; let's go," Ethan said, quickly pulling Chloe and Sarah away as he saw Jesse's expression.
"Why didn't you let me ask? I really want to know if he ever went to such places to find women!" Sarah complained as they walked away.
"Come on. Even if he did, you can't ask him like that. How could he possibly answer you?" Chloe said, trying to console Sarah, who was both amused and exasperated.
"Whatever... It's not a big deal. If he doesn't want to say, I don't care to hear it anyway!" Sarah pouted, clearly frustrated.
Just then, Ethan's phone rang. He glanced at it and saw it was Beckett. Wasn't he supposed to be with Hannah at Emerald Vein? Why was he calling now?
With a hint of suspicion, Ethan answered the call.
"Mr. Wilson, something's happened!" Beckett's urgent voice came through the phone.
"Beckett, what happened? Don't panic. Take your time," Ethan said, frowning as he looked at Camila.
He knew that if Beckett said something had happened, it must involve Hannah. Otherwise, Hannah would have been the first to call him.
"A batch of raw stones worth three billion dollars that we just acquired has mysteriously disappeared, and Miss Collins is also missing!" Beckett explained urgently.
"Missing? Do you know who did it?" Ethan's heart sank.
"No idea at all. I just got to the warehouse to pick up the goods and found out. Miss Collins came here this afternoon to inspect the goods herself. I went to contact the transport team and the security company, but when I came back, the warehouse was empty, and Miss Collins was gone!" Beckett explained again.
"Alright, I understand. I'll head to Emerald Vein as soon as possible. Don't worry, wait for my news," Ethan said, hanging up the phone. Hannah was in trouble, and he thought it was related to him. For Camila's sake, he had to go to Emerald Vein!
