Chapter 276 Ethan Felt Being Watched
Before leaving Novaria, Sarah had arranged for a manager to help run Chloe's former decoration company. Now that they were back in Novaria, there was no need to spend extra effort on that small company. The best choice was to merge it into Stellar Nexus Enterprises.
"Chloe has already taken care of it. But what about Hannah and Camila? What are you planning to do with them? Are you still planning to live in your old villa when you go back?" Sarah asked, raising an eyebrow.
Hearing Sarah mention Hannah and Camila, Ethan felt a bit troubled. He didn't know how to handle his relationship with Hannah, mainly because this mature woman was too forward, making it hard for him to cope. As for Camila, since he had already accepted her as his goddaughter, he couldn't just ignore her. During his time in Everglow City, she called him almost every night before bed, closer than most biological father-daughter relationships. He couldn't bear to neglect her.
"Don't overthink it. There's nothing between Hannah and me; I just like Camila. When we get back to Novaria, we can visit her together. As for where to live, the villa is fine. There's no need to change places. Living with the Harris family would be inconvenient!" Ethan said with a wry smile.
"Inconvenient? I think you find it inconvenient to do bad things while living in my house, right?" Sarah pouted and snorted disapprovingly.
Ethan was speechless, unable to find an excuse to refute. Just having Sarah and Chloe living with him in the Harris family villa, with Clarence watching them all the time, would be awkward enough. Even if they weren't uncomfortable, he would be! Living in his villa would be much more reassuring.
The next morning, after having breakfast, Ethan and Sarah headed straight to the Miller family. Just as they picked up Chloe, Sarah's phone rang.
"Sorry, plans have changed. Isolde invited me to a family gathering so that I won't be going today. You two go ahead!" Sarah said apologetically to Ethan and Chloe after finishing the call.
"How can that be? We finally have time to go hiking together, and now you're saying you can't go? Can't you push it off? Anyway, it seems like you don't get along well with the other heirs in your family. Why bother going?" Chloe complained, clearly dissatisfied.
In reality, she felt that if Ethan accompanied her alone, it might make Sarah feel left out, which would be unfair to her.
"That was before. Now, Isolde and I get along quite well. This is the first time she's invited me, and since she heard I'm going back to Novaria the day after tomorrow, she asked me to hang out. I have to maintain a good relationship with her. We'll have plenty of time to hang out in Novaria later. You two have fun today!" Sarah said with a smile and then got out of the car, clearly not planning to go hiking anymore.
Chloe wanted to get out and persuade her, but Ethan pulled her back. "Forget it. She wants us to spend time together. Isolde inviting her is just an excuse they came up with."
Chloe immediately realized and felt a bit embarrassed. "Why is she doing this? It seems like we're doing something bad!"
"Sarah meant well. Why do you complain about her? I should take some time to be with you. Let's enjoy our time together!" Ethan said as he started the car and headed toward one of Everglow City's most famous spots.
Ethan had often taken them shopping before, but shopping could be done anywhere; he hadn't really taken them out to have fun.
"Do you remember when you were about to leave Novaria, and we had a crazy two-day adventure?" Ethan asked with a smile as they arrived at the foot of the mountain.
"Of course, I remember. I still have the photos we took on my phone!" Chloe's face lit up with nostalgia at the memory of those two days.
"So, shall we continue today?" Ethan asked, smiling and extending his hand to Chloe.
"Absolutely! I want to take lots of photos today and send them to Sarah to make her regret not coming with us!" Chloe said excitedly, grabbing Ethan's hands.
They started their ascent up the mountain, running and laughing along the way, attracting envious glances from other tourists. Just like their last time in Novaria, Chloe captured every beautiful moment with her phone, her face beaming with happiness.
Eventually, Chloe became too tired to continue, and Ethan ended up carrying her to the peak. Gazing at the endless mountain range, Ethan felt a surge of emotion and shouted toward Everglow City.
Finding it amusing, Chloe mimicked him, shouting joyfully into the distance as if trying to convey her happiness through her voice. Their shouts drew the attention of many around them, who also began to express their own feelings.
There was something magical about hiking. Hearing your voice echo through the valleys was wonderful. However, as they continued shouting, Ethan suddenly fell silent, looking around as if searching for something.
"What's wrong, Ethan?" Chloe asked, noticing his unusual expression.
"I don't know. I feel like someone's watching me," Ethan said, scanning the area but finding nothing, shaking his head in confusion.
"There are people everywhere. You might be part of the scenery for someone else. Why are you acting like a girl, afraid of being looked at?" Chloe teased with a laugh.
"The feeling of being watched is different from casual glances. I feel like there's a pair of eyes fixed on me," Ethan explained seriously, shaking his head.
This feeling was inexplicable, something he had never experienced before, but it felt incredibly real at that moment. Despite his efforts to find the person watching him, he saw nothing unusual.
"Why don't I have that feeling? I think you're just paranoid from doing too many bad things," Chloe joked, looking around and seeing only ordinary tourists.
"Maybe I'm just being too sensitive," Ethan said, shaking his head slowly. Though he said this, the inexplicable connection he felt with someone remained.
Meanwhile, on a nearby observation deck, Jessie, wearing a mask and baseball cap, watched Ethan from afar, her eyes welling up with tears.
"You said you'd be satisfied with just one look. Are you satisfied now?" Dorian, standing behind Jessie, reminded her.
