Chapter 532 Leaving the Country

Ethan finally figured out that Willard had dropped them off at the entrance of some tiny bar.

"Get lost, I don't drink!" Angela, already pissed off, didn't hold back. She snapped at him and started to walk away.

"Wait, have a drink with me." Jeffery wasn't about to let Angela go that easily.

Before Jeffery could even touch her, Angela spun around and kicked him to the ground.

"Why'd you have to mess with her, man?" Ethan shook his head at Jeffery, then took off after Angela, who was already storming off.

"Can you chill with the violence? With that attitude, no guy's ever gonna be into you," Ethan joked as he caught up to her.

"This is me. I'm not changing for anyone, and my boyfriend better be able to take me on." Angela snorted, then realized she didn't owe Ethan any explanation and clammed up.

"So, you're saying I still got a shot?" Ethan's eyes lit up.

"Get lost!" Angela shot him a glare, pushed open the glass door of a restaurant, and walked in.

Ethan sighed and followed her inside.

After watching Angela demolish a steak and salad, Ethan asked, "What's the plan now?"

"Just cross the border to Lope Town. Simple as that," Angela said, wiping her mouth with a napkin.

"It's almost dark. We leaving now?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Even with the time difference from their flight, it was already afternoon, and the sun was setting. Angela was dead set on traveling overnight.

"It's easier to cross at night. We gotta keep a low profile this time," Angela said, dropping some cash for the bill and heading out.

An hour later, it was pitch black, and Ethan and Angela were at the border between Phukettle and Kyro.

Not far off was the local border checkpoint, but they were planning to sneak across.

"The soldiers patrol every five minutes. We gotta time it right to climb over the wall and get into Kyro's jungle," Angela whispered after scoping out the scene.

"Why make it so complicated? It's just a border; no need to act like we're in some spy movie," Ethan grumbled, not buying into Angela's plan.

"Oh right, I forgot you're a Half-Step Grandmaster," Angela rolled her eyes.

Before she could say more, Ethan scooped her up. Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around his neck and glared at him, "What are you doing?"

"Getting us across the border. Don't move, or I won't be responsible if you fall," Ethan said seriously, then leaped over the border wall in a flash.

With the wind whipping past her ears, Angela felt dizzy as the scenery blurred by. In no time, they were deep in the forest, far from the border. They'd made it to Kyro.

"Put me down!" Angela squirmed as Ethan finally came to a stop.

Ethan let go immediately, and Angela almost hit the ground with a yelp. Luckily, being a top-tier martial artist, she twisted mid-air and landed on her feet, albeit a bit awkwardly.

"Are you trying to kill me?" Angela shot Ethan a death glare.

"You told me to put you down! How's that my fault?" Ethan looked all innocent.

Angela snorted, too annoyed to argue. She pulled out her portable GPS and pointed in a direction. "Lope Town's that way, forty miles out!"

"Let's go, deadweight," Ethan sighed, clearly exasperated.

"Who you calling deadweight?" Angela snapped back, eyes blazing.

"If not you, then who? Whatever, I'll scout ahead. At your pace, it'll take you an hour to get there. Text me when you arrive," Ethan said, and before Angela could respond, he vanished.

Forty miles was just a quick jog for Ethan. He showed Angela what being deadweight really meant.

Angela had no choice but to glare in the direction of Lope Town and pick up her pace.

After leaving the forest near the border, Ethan hit the desert. The open terrain made any movement or lights in the dark super obvious.

Ethan zipped past a few small villages without stopping and hit the highway outside Lope Town in minutes.

Switching his phone to vibrate, Ethan dialed Alexander's number and soon got an exact address.

Fire Rose Bar, the only bar in this tiny town, had a bunch of off-roaders and dune buggies parked outside. The news of a treasure had stirred up unexpected excitement, shattering usual calm, and the bar was packed because it was the only place to hang out.

When Ethan got to the bar entrance, he saw the smoky, crowded interior. People without seats were standing by the bar, but the vibe was still electric, with loud music shaking the floor.

"Did you hear? Hellfire and Frankie's mercenary groups had a brawl in Ghana Valley this afternoon. Heard a few folks bit the dust on both sides!"

"Who cares? The more they fight, the fewer people we gotta compete with. Works for us."

"You really think you can snag the Grail? Get real; we're just here for the show."

"At least you know your place."

Ethan caught snippets of conversations. Despite the noise, he picked up the info he needed.

"Give me a drink," Ethan said as he approached the bar, signaling the bartender.
