Chapter 531 Why Don't You Give It a Try

Checking out Ethan, who was now all distant and stuff, Angela felt like she barely knew him anymore. She didn't dare ask him anything, scared that one more question would make him snap and treat her like a total stranger. This weird vibe made Angela uneasy, though she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

Soon enough, the plane took off, kicking off the long six-hour flight. But the whole time, Ethan and Angela didn't say a word to each other. Ethan had his eyes shut like he was napping, while Angela just stared out the window, lost in the clouds and the golden sun.

It wasn't until the plane touched down at Phukettle airport that Ethan finally opened his eyes. He looked at the still-zoned-out Angela and cheerfully said, "Let's roll. The faster we finish, the sooner we can get out of here."

Angela snapped out of her daze, followed Ethan off the plane, and walked out of the airport, still feeling a bit out of it.

"Where's the ride?" Ethan asked Angela as they stood by the curb.

"What ride?" Angela blurted out instinctively.

"Don't tell me you came here for a mission without setting up a pickup?" Ethan said, sounding a bit annoyed.

"They should be here any minute," Angela finally woke up, and just as she said that, a taxi pulled up in front of them.

"Need a lift?" The driver, Willard Bailey, a young dude from Vexa, gave Ethan a once-over before asking.

"Hop in," Angela told Ethan, then opened the door and slid into the front passenger seat.

"Is he one of us?" Willard asked in a low voice, surprised Angela had brought another guy.

"Yeah," Angela replied, though she looked a bit reluctant.

Willard got the hint and started the car, driving away from the airport.

"I was wondering why a Vexa guy was driving a taxi in Phukettle. Turns out my wife set it up," Ethan said.

Willard's hands shook, almost losing control of the wheel.

"Who's your wife?" Angela turned around and snapped at Ethan.

"You said it yourself. Changing your mind now?" Ethan asked, looking all innocent and serious.

Angela was left speechless and just sat back in her seat, fuming.

Willard gave Ethan a thumbs-up from the side. Seeing this, Ethan chuckled.

"Wasn't this supposed to be a solo mission? Why's there an extra person?" Willard asked, glancing at Angela.

"Picked up some dead weight along the way. Just do your job and stop asking so many questions," Angela snapped, calling Ethan dead weight.

"Stop the car," Ethan suddenly knocked on the window and shouted at Willard.

Willard slammed on the brakes and pulled over, staring at Ethan like he’d lost his mind.

"Ethan, what the hell are you doing?" Angela was about ready to lose it.

"You called me dead weight. So, to avoid dragging you down, I'm out. You handle it," Ethan said, opening the door and stepping out.

Watching Ethan walk away without a second glance, Willard's eyes went wide. Someone actually had the guts to give Angela the cold shoulder.

"Ethan, get back here!" Angela's face twisted in frustration as she jumped out of the car to chase him.

"What do you want with this dead weight?" Ethan raised an eyebrow and smirked as Angela blocked his path.

"Are you even a man? Did you forget what you just said?" Angela shot back.

"Want to find out if I'm a man?" Ethan chuckled, giving her a once-over in her professional getup.

"Do you only know how to bully women?" Angela blushed, pointing at Ethan, almost at her breaking point.

"Let's get this straight. How did I bully you? Don't throw around false accusations; people might get the wrong idea," Ethan said seriously.

"Fine, let's get this straight. I take it back. You're not dead weight; I am. Happy now?" Angela gritted her teeth, clearly hating to admit defeat.

"You think I don't have any pride? You called me dead weight, and I'm supposed to stick around? Where's my dignity?" Ethan said coolly.

"You want pride? Fine, I'll give you pride! Mr. Wilson, I'm asking you, I'm begging you to get back in the car, okay?" Angela was about to lose her mind.

"Well, since you're being sincere, I'll show you some respect." Ethan nodded, satisfied, and got back in the car.

"What a piece of work!" Angela stomped her foot in frustration and got back in too.

Willard glanced at the two of them, especially noting Angela's pissed-off expression, and wisely kept his mouth shut, quickly starting the car again.

Neither Angela nor Ethan spoke, and Willard didn't dare say a word. Two hours later, the taxi stopped in a small town near the Phukettle border.

"I can only take you this far. Keep heading west, and you'll hit Kyro. Lope Town is about fifty miles away," Willard reported cautiously to Angela, who still looked like a storm cloud.

Angela got out of the car.

"Thanks." Ethan patted Willard's shoulder and got out too.

Willard gave Ethan a quick smile, turned the car around, and sped off.

"Hey, wanna grab a drink with me?" At that moment, Jeffery Gray, holding a bottle and swaying drunkenly, blocked Angela's way, giving her a sleazy once-over and asking in a flippant tone.
