Chapter 547 Like or Dislike
At this point, Ethan and even Phoenix had had enough. Before Ethan could say a word, Phoenix quickly said goodbye to Norman.
"Heading back to Misty Ridge?" Norman asked.
"Nah, gotta get back to Celestia Vale. Since Cross Christianity struck out on the Grail, they'll be back. We need to plan our next move at Celestia Vale," Phoenix said, giving Ethan a quick look.
"Alright, won't hold you up," Norman said, nodding seriously.
With Phoenix out, it was just Norman, Remington, Ethan, and Angela left, and things got awkward real quick. Both Ethan and Angela were itching to bail.
"So, where were we?" Norman asked Angela with a grin.
"What do you want?" Angela asked, exasperated.
"We've seen you grow up. You're pushing thirty and still single. Your mom set you up with a couple of guys, but you shot them down for all sorts of reasons. Think we don't know?" Norman said with a wry smile.
"You're too headstrong and picky about men. Over the years, we haven't seen you show interest in anyone your age, except for Ethan," Remington added with a chuckle.
"Why drag me into this? Should I be flattered that Angela likes me?" Ethan said, feeling totally speechless. This convo was going way off the rails.
'Are these two seriously trying to set us up? I've already got four wives at home; this would just be a mess.' Ethan didn't even realize he was more worried about Chloe and the others than his own feelings for Angela.
"You should be flattered," Norman said seriously to Ethan.
"When did I say I liked him? Stop talking nonsense. How could I possibly like him?" Angela shot back, her face turning red.
With Angela's proud nature, she couldn't stand her boyfriend having other women around, let alone four. But that was only if the guy was on equal footing or worse compared to her.
If it was Ethan, Angela herself would be torn. She always felt like there were two versions of herself battling it out in her head. One part would catch feelings for Ethan and even have romantic thoughts, only for the other part to shut it down immediately.
The first part only existed for Ethan, while the second was the original Angela. In other words, even someone as strong-willed as Angela was subtly changed by Ethan!
"Do you really not like him at all?" Norman asked Angela seriously.
Angela was at a loss for words. She realized Norman wasn't joking. She could brush it off, but she couldn't lie to herself.
Angela didn't even have the guts to deny it. If she didn't like him, she wouldn't have kissed Ethan just for a bet. But her usual principles wouldn't let her admit to such a wild idea.
"Yo, can I get a word in?" Ethan noticed the three people in front of him were acting like he was invisible, even though they were talking about him!
"What do you wanna say?" Norman asked, eyebrow raised.
"Look, I've already got four wives at home. You know my deal. Plus, Chloe's pregnant," Ethan said with a bitter smile.
"Oh, you're gonna be a dad?" Norman said, looking genuinely surprised and happy.
"That's awesome news. Were you planning to keep it from us? We're your elders, man. That's not cool," Remington scolded, shaking his head.
"I just didn't get the chance," Ethan said, feeling cornered.
Hearing about Chloe's pregnancy, Angela felt a weird pang in her chest. 'Why am I feeling this? Do I actually like Ethan?' she wondered.
"Forget about whether you should've told us. What does this have to do with Angela? You've already got four wives; one more won't hurt, right?" Norman said seriously.
Ethan's eyes nearly popped out of his head. He was speechless.
"As long as you two have feelings for each other, we just want you to be happy," Remington nodded in agreement.
"Angela, you got nothing to say?" Ethan noticed her silence and nudged her.
"Do you think my words even matter?" Angela huffed, clearly torn.
Ethan was dumbfounded, not knowing how to respond.
"But feelings aren't like business deals. This is your life; they can't control it," Ethan reminded her, feeling frustrated.
"That's nonsense. We're like her grandfathers; who says we can't control it?" Norman shot back, glaring at Ethan.
"He's got a point. If you dare say you don't like Angela at all, we'll drop it," Remington said seriously.
Ethan was at a loss for words. Despite her proud and impulsive nature, he genuinely enjoyed being around her.
From the first time they met, Ethan had felt something for her. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone out of his way to help her become a true warrior.
Facing the same question, both Ethan and Angela were left speechless by Norman and Remington.
Norman and Remington exchanged a glance, a hint of amusement in their eyes. Their seemingly inappropriate actions were based on the belief that there were real feelings between the two.
On one hand, it was because the two young people had feelings for each other. On the other hand, it was to tie Ethan firmly to their side through Angela, preventing any wild cards in the future.
After all, compared to Celestia Vale, Ethan, who was independent of it, was anything but ordinary. In essence, this was a political marriage orchestrated by Norman and Remington, built on a foundation of mutual feelings.
