Chapter 117 A Helpless Decision
Just then, Sarah's phone suddenly rang.
“Grandpa, Chloe’s calling. If there's nothing else, I'll step out to answer this.” Sarah's eyes lit up, quickly taking advantage of Chloe's call to escape.
“Go ahead!” Clarence impatiently waved his hand, at a loss on what to do with his beloved granddaughter.
Leaving Clarence’s study, Sarah closed the door behind her and then answered Chloe's call, “Chloe, your timing couldn't be better. I was in trouble just now; thank you so much for saving me!”
“Was it because of Ethan's incident?” Chloe apparently also knew about what happened at the jewelry exhibition, immediately asking.
“Oh, it's nothing. Let's not talk about that. Anyway, why are you calling me?” Sensing the guilt in Chloe’s tone, Sarah immediately changed the subject.
Chloe hesitated for a bit before asking, “I want to meet and talk with you. Can we meet up?”
“Sure, just tell me where I'll come over right away!” Sarah readily agreed without further ado.
30 minutes later, they met at a café near Chloe's company.
“You don't look well. Did something happen?” Sarah asked worriedly as soon as she saw Chloe and sat down across from her.
“My flight back to Houston is in two days.” Chloe said with a forced smile as she tried to sound calm, as if she was just talking casually.
Sarah was surprised, “What?! Why so suddenly? Didn’t you still have over two months left?”
“That guy is coming to my house next week, so they've given me only three days to go back. The day after tomorrow is the last day!” Chloe's smile carried slight bitterness as her head drooped.
Unsure if she was more concerned for Chloe or Ethan, Sarah blurted out instinctively, “What about Ethan?”
If he found out about this, wouldn't he go insane?
Chloe's gaze turned strange as she looked at Sarah.
Sarah immediately realized her reaction was off and quickly explained, “What I mean is, can you bear to leave him?”
“What does it matter? I don’t have a choice! If I don't return, it’ll only bring him more trouble!” Chloe shook her head bitterly.
Sarah asked cautiously, “Are you planning to leave without letting him know?”
Chloe handed her a folder and said, “That's why I asked you to meet up. I’ve transferred my company, car, and villa to Ethan's name. I don't know what else I can leave for him; maybe these things wouldn’t even benefit him!”
“You want me to give these to him?” Sarah immediately understood Chloe's intentions.
“Yes. I'll quietly leave the day after tomorrow, so please help me deliver these things to him. However, you can’t tell him the truth!” Chloe grabbed Sarah's hand, almost begging.
“I understand. However, I can't guarantee what he’ll do if you suddenly disappear. What if he comes looking for you? Are you really prepared to cut things off with him?” Sarah felt uneasy.
One was her best friend, and the other was the man who saved her life. Even if she wanted to help, she didn't know where to start.
Chloe held onto Sarah's hand and begged, “I'll call him when I reach Houston. I'll delay as much as I can! In any case, he can’t know the truth. You have to promise me!”
“Don't worry, I won't tell him!” Sarah reluctantly nodded.
Chloe finally sighed in relief and slowly said, “Thank you! I'm counting on you to look after Ethan. If I can't be with him, I hope you’ll be the one by his side.”
Sarah was flustered upon hearing this. “What nonsense are you talking about? He's your man; you should be the one by side! How could I ever replace you?”
Chloe earnestly said, “Sarah, we've been good friends since university. Do you think I can't see read your thoughts? I'm being serious right now!”
Although Sarah didn’t say it out loud, Chloe could obviously sense her friend’s growing affection for Ethan through her eyes and actions.
Sarah fell silent, unable to respond.
After a long silence, she finally said, “Is there really no way to stop this? Do you really want to marry someone you don't love?”
“In a family like mine, there are many things I don’t have a choice in. I think you should understand, but you’re much happier than me. You still have a healthy body, and you can take care of your grandfather! As for mine… He could return from Fragrant Garden and try to change my parents' decision, but...”
Chloe shook her head and bitterly smiled, clearly not having any hope.
Sarah recalled Ethan's amazing medical abilities as she reminded Chloe, “What about Ethan? His medical skills are miraculous; maybe he can save your grandfather!”
“It's useless. It's better for him not to go to Houston until he has enough power. Even if he did, do you think my parents would trust him?”
“Can’t he at least see your grandpa?”
Chloe shook her head, clearly indicating she had already considered this option.
Sarah immediately realized she had been presumptuous. Even when Ethan initially treated Clarence, not only did James and Alan intervene, but even she doubted him!
On the other hand, Andrew, Gabriella, and Sharon had gloomy looks in their hotel because of Ethan's situation.
Just a few minutes ago, Elijah had called and scolded Andrew for a long time, ordering him to return immediately.
“It's all because of this damn Ethan. Why does he always have so many women around him? And they’re all so difficult to deal with!” Andrew clenched his fist tightly, gritting his teeth.
“Can that Sarah truly represent the Harris family?” On the other hand, Sharon had a different opinion. She thought that even though Sarah had a strong background, she was ultimately just a woman and couldn’t represent the entire Harris family.
Andrew helplessly sighed, “In any case, it's best to hope she was just bluffing. However, I can’t confront her on my own, or it'll really be war with the Harris family!”
“Sarah can't do anything. What about the other two women? Especially Chloe, she's just a small company’s owner, but she's the person Ethan cares about the most!” Sharon reminded Andrew, her eyes flashing.
Upon hearing this, his eyes narrowed.
He never imagined his fleeting evil thoughts would lead to a catastrophe for the entire Johnson family!
