Chapter 137: Ethan's Confidence

Mr. Walker had newfound admiration for Ethan's skills.

He realized that he had misjudged the young man.

"Francis, do you have the skills to extract the meat from a walnut using a needle?"

Mr. Walker turned to Francis curiously.

"Ethan has far more advanced abilities than I do!" Francis spoke highly of Ethan, "The secret is energy control, and Ethan's method far surpasses mine in that aspect."

"In that instance, maybe his proposed strategy might work! It's just that..."

Mr. Walker gave a nod of approval. He also knew that Francis's abilities were probably not up to Ethan's level.

However, his face changed from one of satisfaction to hesitation after a moment.

"What is it?" Ethan furrowed his brow, not understanding why Mr. Walker still didn't trust him.

Francis calmly told Jerome, "Please ask General Walker to come here."

"Yes, Master!"

Jerome replied respectfully before turning to leave.

Ethan questioned whether this General Walker was the same one who had given Mr. Walker tea earlier. Was he Mr. Walker's son?

After hearing this, he started to understand and relaxed.

It was unlikely that Mr. Walker or anybody else would allow a young guy to treat him casually. Ethan surmised that even Francis would've had to pass military inspection before receiving permission to treat Mr. Walker.

In the end, Mr. Walker's health was priority, and while successful treatment would be celebrated, nobody would want to be accountable for an accident that resulted in his death.

"My oldest son, Bennit, is the person you met earlier." Mr. Walker grinned wryly and told Ethan, "He's in charge of my medical care and deciding things that I can't ignore."

Sarah, who had just been delighted started to feel nervous again after hearing this.

That's right, Mr. Walker's son was the General Walker they'd met. However, what would happen if he opposed to Ethan's treatment?

After all, it was understandable that it would be difficult for people to take Ethan seriously, given his age.

"After talking to Francis and the old man, do you honestly believe you can handle General Walker? Make no empty promises here; one wrong word, and we might be dismissed or worse."

Sarah warned Ethan with a worried look.

"You don't trust me? I've already shown my worth, and I know I can heal Mr. Walker completely. However, what General Walker thinks of me is out of my control."

Ethan smiled back, wry and helpless.

Jerome, who had left earlier, returned after about three minutes and escorted General Walker into Mr. Walker's chamber. The general had a stern expression on his face, eyeing Ethan suspiciously.

Ethan changed his mind. He assumed that, based on Jerome's arrogant expression, he had said a few "kind" words about him to General Walker.

"Jerome has informed me, son. In general, I disagree with this operation. You're aware that this affects your safety; before we move on, every decision must be notified to the highest authorities."

Bennit took his stance, getting right to the point with Mr. Walker.

His remarks were obviously more of a warning, implying that Ethan shouldn't try anything.

"Okay, no problem. I'll listen to you, but there's no need to call for the commander-in-chief just to persuade me!"

Mr. Walker stared at his son with a hopeless expression, ready to give up at some point.

"General Walker, this may be Mr. Walker's only chance to save his life. Will you not give it a thought?" Sarah had to protest.

She found it incomprehensible that a son could be so indifferent to his father's welfare.

"Enough, Sarah. We can’t make anyone do anything; General Walker has his own struggles."

Ethan shook his head at her, giving her a gentle tug.

"Seems like you've got some sense. Due to his advanced age and health concerns, my father is not a good fit for guests. I advise you both to leave right away if there is nothing more."

Bennit plainly asked them to leave without any politeness.

"General Walker has responsibilities to fulfill alongside being his son, Ethan. I hope you don't mind."

Francis clarified General Walker's remarks, making it quite evident that it couldn't influence the man's choice.

Ethan said, "I'll leave, Mr. Walker. However, please excuse my bluntness. Although Francis's technique of using energy to change the bullet fragment's location would provide short relief, but Mr. Walker's condition cannot last for very long. He may find himself in a difficult situation if that fragment isn't appropriately handled within three days."

Ethan stayed silent. Rather, he gave Bennit a sharp glance and issued a warning.

"At most three days? What are you saying? According to my master, his technique could ensure Mr. Walker's safety for a minimum of three months!"

Bennit frowned at these comments, and Jerome looked visibly angry.

"Are you implying my father will be comatose in three days?" Bennit asked, his face noticeably worsening as he looked at Francis for clarification.

Francis nodded in agreement, "General Walker, stop staring at me like that. It's impossible to stop the bullet fragment from sinking more by adjusting it, since the bullet fragment is pushing on a nerve center in Mr. Walker's skull. He could go into a coma at any time, and while his life isn't in immediate danger, the outcome of not removing the fragment in time is obvious."

Bennit felt his last hope fade out as he heard this.

Despite that, Bennit was unable to blindly trust a stranger like Ethan—even if he were a member of the Harris family.

Seeing Bennit's quietness, Ethan remarked, "General Walker seems to have made up his mind. Anyway, we'll stop interfering with Mr. Walker's sleep now. Sarah, let's go."

Afterward, he and Sarah began to walk away.

Sarah reluctantly said, "Goodbye, Mr. Walker," as Bennit obviously didn't agree with Ethan treating Mr. Walker.

"Please convey my gratitude to your grandfather. It appears that I won't have another opportunity to talk to him anymore," Mr. Walker replied with a wry smile before returning to the table to finish his tea, looking a bit sad.

Sarah was still furious after leaving St. Benedict's Priory, unable to shake off the way Bennit and Jerome had handled Mr. Walker's health.

Seeing her annoyance, Ethan said with a confident smile, "All right, enough of the whining. Bennit is probably going to ask for me soon."

"Will he come and invite you?"

Sarah was startled.

"Sweetheart, he's rejecting me now because things haven't reached its worse point yet, and he's just clinging to luck. He has his reservations about me, of course, so he will undoubtedly look into my past. However, who else can Bennit turn to but me when Mr. Walker gets into serious trouble and he runs out of options?" With a quick pinch of Sarah's cheek, Ethan turned to walk down the hill.

"Who are you calling Sweetheart? Stop right there, Ethan!"

She took a minute to respond before chasing after him, her teeth clenched in frustration.
