Chapter 172 Full of Confidence
"Marvelous...How marvelous!" Before Sarah could ask in confusion, Remington suddenly clapped his hands and burst into laughter.
"You lost beautifully! Your voluntary surrender was incredible! I really didn't expect it. You really turned the tables on us! The result of a match is determined by how each side perceives it!”
"Remington, what do you mean? The game isn't over yet. Where is the victory or defeat?" Sarah asked, her face full of astonishment.
"Losing is winning. Little girl, you don't understand. You will learn more from Ethan!" Remington laughed and then helped Ethan make the final move on the chessboard. "I lost! I admit defeat!"
Sarah looked at the chessboard, seemingly understanding but still puzzled.
Although she couldn't understand the final chess game, she knew that Ethan was one move away from winning, but instead of making the move, he chose to surrender.
"Thanks, Remington! As you just said, losing is winning. We both won this game! You didn't lose either!" Ethan nodded and smiled.
"Yeah. We both won. I just wonder what he's thinking. You've given him a big problem with this move! Oh well, let's consider it a good connection. I believe you should know your limits, kid!" Remington nodded approvingly.
From Ethan's performance just now, Remington knew that he understood the big picture and knew when to advance and retreat. This was the type of person that the older generation liked the most.
Sarah didn't understand the details, but she could tell that Remington really liked Ethan, and that was enough!
"Old man, I'll go back to the yard and water my babies. Enjoy your time!" Remington got a satisfactory answer and jokingly said as he got up and walked towards his little garden.
Sarah blushed slightly and quietly asked Ethan, "I still don’t get it. What's going on?"
Ethan sighed and had to explain to her.
Remington was aware that there would likely be communication between Mr. Grant and Ethan that day, so he decided to stay home and made sure Sarah did as well. With Bennit's military background, Remington wasn't concerned about him causing any further issues.
There would certainly be a result between Ethan and Mr. Grant, and Remington was quite satisfied with it.
“You have a prime chance to heal Mr. Grant, but are you willing to not seek any rewards for yourself? Merely earning some praise, how much real assistance can that provide you?" Sarah couldn't comprehend Ethan's decision. She thought if Ethan requested a pardon from Mr. Grant, he would likely grant it, yet Ethan didn't desire anything in return.
"You'll find out soon! By the way, something happened when I went to Fragrant Garden today. Let's go to the room and I'll tell you in detail!"
Ethan led Sarah back to their room.
“What's the secret?" Sarah asked inquisitively.
Ethan then recounted the encounter with the critically ill Rodolfo, leaving Sarah wide-eyed.
"Such a coincidence! You saved Chloe's grandfather! Do the people from the Miller family know your identity?" Sarah quickly asked.
“There were some younger members of the Miller family present, but I didn't disclose my identity. I don't think they recognize me, but I'm sure they'll look into it soon," Ethan explained, shaking his head. That was why he had been cautious not to reveal too much in front of the Miller family.
“What's your plan now? If you heal Chloe's grandfather, you might win his support and put a stop to the engagement. They say that fortresses are easiest to conquer from within, so this could be the perfect chance!" Sarah suggested enthusiastically.
“Take it easy. The situation might be more complex than it seems. Your grandfather's generation doesn't make decisions based on mere favors. Just look at how Remington and Mr. Grant operate. Remember how hesitant your grandfather was in the beginning?" Ethan cautioned, shaking his head in doubt.
"It seems like that's true! So, what's your plan?" Sarah also thought Ethan's words made sense and felt tangled for a moment.
"You want me to take Chloe back? Won't you regret it?" Ethan looked at Sarah's anxious appearance and suddenly felt heartache.
"I'm more afraid that you will regret it! I will explain our relationship to Chloe. If you really can get her back, I will compete with her fairly!" Sarah said earnestly.
Her sincere statement made Ethan even more inadequate.
Sarah had always cared about him and sacrificed herself for him!
This complicated love triangle often left him feeling confused and insecure. At times, he even wondered if he truly was the scoundrel others made him out to be.
"Alright, stop bothering me. Focus on figuring out how to save Chloe. Remember, you're not just up against the Miller family; you'll also be crossing the entire Ashford family. And as one of the Four Great Families, the Wilson family will be impacted first. If you upset three families simultaneously, even with the Harris family backing you, things won't look good for you!
Sarah analyzed the current situation anxiously, clearly trying to persuade Ethan to consider the Walker family's and see if they can bring Remington in.
"I know what I'm doing! The Walker family has a special status and they cannot attend the engagement ceremony. It's impossible. I won't push them."
Ethan said confidently.
"Play your role as the good guy if you want. Watch out for the united attacks from the three families. They will leave you with nothing!"
Sarah pouted and complained.
"Don't worry, I promise, as long as Chloe agrees, I will bring her back! At least I want to help her escape this arranged marriage!"
Ethan remained confident. Sarah wondered where this confidence came from.
When marrying into a family, one is expected to adhere to its traditions. Love can sometimes cloud a woman's judgment. Sarah couldn't quite grasp the source of Ethan's confidence, but once he made his decision, she was the first to firmly support him.
"In any case, you better not disappoint me!" Sarah raised her small fist and said fiercely.
Ethan felt warmth in his heart and embraced Sarah's waist, kissing her pouting lips directly...
