Chapter 275 Roy and Hubert
"Great! We'll definitely be there on time!" Before Lyra could refuse, Ethan had agreed.
"Why did you agree to that?" Lyra stared at Ethan in disbelief and questioned him.
"He was so sincere, and I couldn't refuse him! Besides, who wouldn't want to attend a birthday party with free food and drinks?" Ethan explained.
"Alright then, I'll be expecting both of you at the birthday party the day after tomorrow!" Hubert didn't expect Ethan to agree so readily. Afraid he might change his mind, Hubert quickly turned away, tossing the bouquet of roses he was holding into a nearby trash can.
"Ethan, why did you agree to that jerk? He's notorious for being a playboy at school!" Once Hubert was out of sight, Lyra asked Ethan with a look of helplessness.
"You know him that well? Do you know who his dad is?" Ethan raised an eyebrow and asked.
"I don't even care about him, let alone who his dad is! He's definitely a rich kid, so his dad must be some business tycoon!" Lyra pouted and huffed.
"How long do you plan on holding onto me like this?" Ethan glanced down at his arm, still wrapped in Lyra's embrace, and reminded her calmly.
Lyra, startled, immediately let go of Ethan, her face turning bright red.
"Ethan, don't get the wrong idea. I was trying to get rid of Hubert. Please don't tell Chloe!" Lyra explained awkwardly.
"Let's go. Where are you headed? I'll give you a ride." Ethan shook his head with a wry smile and changed the subject.
"I don't have any classes this afternoon, so I was planning to visit my grandpa. If it's on your way, could you drop me off at home?" Lyra pouted and said.
"Get in the car," Ethan said as he got into the car first.
Before long, Ethan had dropped Lyra off at the entrance of the Miller family estate.
"Hurry home. I'll pick you up tomorrow night so we can attend Hubert's birthday party together," Ethan reminded her calmly.
Lyra, curious, asked, "Ethan, you don't really want to be my boyfriend, do you?"
"What are you talking about? I'm just interested in Hubert." Ethan was speechless.
"What? You are interested in Hubert?" Lyra opened her mouth wide.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Just go home!" Ethan, barely restraining the urge to kick Lyra out of the car, said angrily.
Lyra quickly got out of the car, but before entering the house, she returned to the driver's side and knocked on the window.
"What now?" Ethan rolled down the window and asked helplessly.
"Ethan, you took advantage of me. Don't worry, I won't tell Chloe. It's our secret!" Lyra said mischievously and then ran into the Miller family estate under Ethan's astonished gaze.
"Lyra dared to take advantage of me. How outrageous!" It took Ethan a while to react, and after thinking it over, he laughed.
After some thought, Ethan dialed Alexander's number.
"Mr. Wilson, what can I do for you?" Alexander asked.
"I remember Roy's file mentions his son named Hubert, who is 22 years old and studying at Everglow City University, right?" Ethan asked directly.
"Yes. Why are you suddenly asking about Hubert?" Alexander asked, sensing something.
"I ran into him today. He's pursuing Lyra from the Miller family and invited me and Lyra to his birthday party the day after tomorrow!" Ethan explained with a smile.
"Are you planning to use this opportunity to get close to Hubert? Or are you aimed at Roy?" Alexander asked, intrigued. He immediately understood what Ethan meant.
"We can't lose the lead on Roy. You need to keep digging into his background for me. Hubert is indeed a potential breakthrough. In the worst-case scenario, if Roy is up to something, Hubert could be his Achilles' heel, and leveraging that could yield unexpected results. I'm about to leave Everglow City, so I'll need you to keep a close eye on them." Ethan shared his thoughts.
"Got it. I'll have someone keep a close watch on Roy and Hubert. I noticed that Roy's movements have been a bit unusual these past few days. He keeps disappearing for periods without any clear reason. If we follow him too closely, I'm afraid he'll get suspicious." Alexander hesitated as he reported the recent developments.
"Try to figure out Roy's activities as much as possible without being detected. It would be best to find out where he goes when he disappears. But remember, your safety comes first," Ethan instructed solemnly.
"Understood!" Alexander agreed, and they ended the call.
After leaving the Miller family estate, Ethan returned to the Harris family residence, where a dozen or so young members from both the Miller and Harris families were waiting for him to help them open their energy centers.
Since learning about Ethan's ability to open energy centers, the patriarchs of both families have mentioned it more than once. So, before leaving Everglow City, Ethan took the time to help the promising young members of both families open their energy centers.
By the time he finished, it was already dark.
"All done. As long as you practice diligently after you go back, you'll reach the warrior level in the future. It all depends on your efforts!" Ethan reminded the young people.
"Thank you for your hard work. You've been busy for hours. Go eat; Sarah has already prepared a meal for you!" Carlos said with a smile.
"Then I'll take my leave." Ethan was indeed hungry. Although he had only used the Nine Needles of Divine Skill a dozen times, it still took a toll on his body.
When he arrived at the dining room, only Sarah was there, setting the freshly prepared dishes on the table.
"Hurry up and eat. I know you've had a tough day!" Sarah pulled him to the table and urged him.
"Have you finished all your work? Are we leaving for the hike tomorrow morning?" Ethan asked as he enjoyed his meal.
"Yes, we've taken care of most of it. It's mainly just paperwork now, and we don't need to worry about the rest." Sarah nodded with a smile.
"Then book the tickets. I have something to do the day after tomorrow, so book the tickets for the day after that. Including Merrick and Beverly, the five of us will head back to Novaria first," Ethan instructed after some thought.
"What about Alice? Are you planning to leave her in Everglow City?" Sarah suddenly asked.
"She's the CFO, so she needs to stay at the headquarters. It wouldn't be convenient for her to come with us to Novaria. We can't have the main office's financial issues handled by a branch office," Ethan said, feeling somewhat helpless and guilty.
He understood Alice's thoughts. Whether he could accept them or not, leaving her alone in Everglow City was unfair to her.
"That's the only way, then." Sarah nodded in agreement. As Ethan's woman, even though she had grown closer to Alice recently, she didn't want more women around Ethan.
"Did Chloe mention what she plans to do with her company?" Ethan suddenly asked.
