Chapter 509 The Girl in the Tower

However, just as they rolled up to the Archives Tower and were about to hit the stairs, this invisible force shoved them back.

Luckily, it was more of a gentle nudge than a full-on smackdown, just keeping them out without any bruises.

Elmer, wide-eyed, blurted out, "Whoa, there's a barrier here!"

Dorian sighed, "If there's a barrier, there's gotta be a switch somewhere. Too bad we have no clue where it is."

He kept a thought to himself: if there's a barrier, there's probably something worth protecting inside.

"Looks like the SA Guild folks left in a pretty chill manner. No signs of a brawl or anything. They must've bailed on their own terms," Ethan said, frowning.

Dorian suddenly looked frustrated and said, "I just thought of something."

Ethan, curious, asked, "What's up?"

"How the heck are we gonna get back? This ain't Tiger Mount. Can we even return?" Dorian glanced down the mountain, hinting at something.

"All the old defenses are toast. We gotta find a way off this mountain now. If we can't, we might be stuck here for real," Elmer said, starting to feel like this trip was a bad idea.

"We just got here, and you're already thinking about bailing?" Ethan didn't seem too worried. To him, if the SA Guild folks could get out, there had to be a way. Plus, this place might be linked to Matthew.

"Why don't we scope out other spots?" Elmer suggested.

So, Ethan and the crew did a thorough sweep. Most buildings were empty, not a single extra item in sight, but some places, like the Archives Tower, had those pesky barriers.

"Besides the Requiem Tower and the Treasure Tower, there's only the Archives Tower. These three spots have barriers, and the other places are just empty," Dorian said to the frustrated group in the square.

"Based on what you said earlier, there might be a way to turn off the barriers somewhere else. But we've found zilch after all this searching," Elmer said, feeling pretty helpless.

At this rate, forget about turning off the barriers; finding a way out seemed impossible.

Ethan was quiet for a bit, then suddenly started walking towards the Requiem Tower.

"Where's he off to?" Dorian raised an eyebrow.

"Who knows? Let's follow and see," Elmer sighed and trailed after him.

Soon, they were outside the Requiem Tower. Ethan looked up at the eighteen-story tower, deep in thought.

"What are you staring at? Just looking won't get us in," Dorian asked, puzzled.

"There's something in this tower," Ethan said, calm as ever.

"Something in the tower?" Dorian's eyes went wide.

"How do you know?" Elmer tried to sense something but came up empty, asking suspiciously.

"I can feel it, and it's alive!" Ethan's expression turned weird.

"Alive?" They all jumped at Ethan's words.

"You guys hang back and don't bug me," Ethan said, then plopped down in front of the Requiem Tower and summoned the Sun and Moon Beads.

Seeing this, Dorian and the others instinctively took a few steps back to give him some room. They watched as Ethan started to meditate, the Sun and Moon Beads slowly spinning around him.

"What the heck is he doing?" Dorian's confusion only grew.

"Looks like Ethan's trying to connect with whatever's in the tower," Elmer said, eyes glued to Ethan.

"Could there really be some kind of ghost or spirit in the Requiem Tower? How could a regular person or creature survive for so long?" Asura Bloodhand speculated.

While the three of them whispered, Ethan discovered that his released consciousness could slip through the barrier while he meditated and reach into the tower.

As his consciousness delved in, the inside of the tower quickly formed in Ethan's mind.

"Who are you?" Suddenly, a voice boomed in his ear, making Ethan jolt. He couldn't see anyone, not knowing who was speaking to his mind. And it sounded like a girl around eighteen.

"Who are you? Where are you?" Ethan tried to send his thoughts back, unsure if she could hear him.

"Who am I? I don't know who I am." The girl's voice came again, filled with confusion and bewilderment.

'She can really hear me.' After the initial shock, Ethan was speechless. The girl didn't even know who she was.

"I can feel it. Were you calling me just now?" Ethan asked again.

"Yes, I've been calling you forever. What took you so long? Tell me who I am!" The girl's voice was tinged with impatience and urgency.

"You don't even know who you are, and I don't know you. How could I know?" Ethan felt super frustrated. The girl seemed a bit clueless.

"You don't know either? Then who are you?" After a moment of silence, the girl's voice came again.

"I'm Ethan Wilson." Ethan sent back.

"Ethan, can you get me out of here?" The girl asked hopefully.

"Get you out? But I can't see you. Where are you?" Ethan's curiosity was piqued.

At that moment, Ethan felt a mist rising inside the empty tower. A hazy figure appeared in the mist, looking like a young girl.

However, the girl seemed like a transparent person, giving Ethan the impression she wasn't a normal human but more like a 3D projected hologram.

"Can you see me?" The girl's voice sounded again. As she spoke, her figure became more solid, and her features gradually became clear.

For a moment, Ethan was stunned by her beauty, his mind going blank. The girl in the pink dress was incredibly beautiful, but she seemed like a transparent person.

"Are you human?" Ethan asked impulsively.

"Human? I should be human. I remember being human, but I don't remember why I'm here." The girl tilted her head, thinking with a cute and playful expression.
