Chapter 659 Speculation
Jessie glanced at Chloe and the others, hesitated for a moment, and then slowly said, "Just before you came back, I felt like he was here!"
"Who?"
Ethan immediately frowned. At first, he didn't react, but then he realized who Jessie was talking about!
"But after I went out, I saw you come back and didn't find any trace of him!"
Jessie slowly shook her head.
"Maybe you were mistaken?"
Ethan didn't know what to think. Whenever Jessie mentioned Matthew, a heaviness settled in his chest and he felt himself shutting down.
"Before we arrived, there were indeed two other presences outside the yard, and they had just disappeared not long ago!"
To Ethan's surprise, Orla suddenly reminded him.
"What did you sense?"
Ethan immediately asked Orla.
"One of the presences was weaker, probably only at the master level, and it felt familiar, like I encountered it on the mountain where I was sealed!"
Orla tilted her head, thinking, and then explained uncertainly.
"Master level? If it was a master level, we should have noticed it. How did you detect it?"
Ethan's confusion deepened.
With his current spiritual sense, any expert within dozens of miles would not escape his detection, even without him deliberately searching.
If someone could hide their presence within the range of his spiritual sense, their spiritual power must be much stronger than his!
"Smell. After I got here, I smelled those two unusual scents. The scent of a practitioner is different from that of an ordinary person!"
Orla explained seriously.
With her naturally keen sense of smell as a member of the wolf clan, it wasn't surprising that she could detect the scent of someone who had just left an area.
"You said you smelled a similar scent on Vast Mountain. Are you sure this person appeared on Vast Mountain?"
Ethan's face suddenly became serious.
If someone who had appeared on Vast Mountain showed up at his villa's doorstep, it was a situation that needed attention!
He wasn't worried about anything else, but he was concerned about the Hills Guild and Cross Christianity. No matter which side the person belonged to, they would pose a threat to his women!
And it seemed quite possible that the person might actually do so!
"They didn't appear, but the scent was very similar. The most likely explanation is that the two people practiced the same or similar techniques."
Orla pondered for a moment before giving a definite reply.
"What about the other presence?"
Ethan then asked.
"The other presence was very faint. If it weren't for the Moonhowl clan's exceptionally keen sense of smell, it would have been hard to detect."
Orla's tone even carried a hint of apprehension.
"Very strong?"
Ethan asked with a frown.
"Very strong, at least at the Golden Core Stage!"
Orla replied without hesitation.
"Golden Core Stage?"
Ethan was startled!
Apart from the founder of the ZF Guild, Arthur, he had never known or seen a Golden Core Stage expert!
"In this world, there are still Golden Core Stage experts. Could it really be him?"
After the initial shock, Ethan's gaze fell on Jessie!
Could this terrifyingly powerful expert be Matthew?
If these two presences appeared outside the villa simultaneously, and one of them had designs on his family, what was the super expert's purpose?
If the person really had such power, they could do whatever they wanted without any scruples. Could it be that he was Matthew, and he appeared here to stop someone from harming Jessie and the others?
But if this person was really Matthew, why wouldn't he show himself and reunite with Jessie? Why hide in the shadows?
Ethan's mind was in turmoil.
"It must be him. My feeling can't be wrong. He must be back!"
Jessie met Ethan's gaze and said with certainty.
"Mom, who are you talking about? Is it Matthew?"
Chloe stepped forward, holding Jessie's arm, and asked curiously and softly.
Jessie frowned and remained silent, not answering the question, but her silence was an answer in itself, an acknowledgment!
Chloe and the others exchanged glances. They could see the inner turmoil in Ethan and Jessie's hearts but didn't know what to say.
"Don't overthink it. Just go about your business. I'll handle the rest!"
Ethan said calmly to Chloe and the others.
Although he said that, Ethan himself wasn't sure how to handle it.
No one could be certain if the mysterious expert was Matthew. Even though Jessie was so sure, Ethan couldn't take it lightly!
He had thought that having Orla in the house would ensure his family's safety, but now it seemed far from enough!
That night, Ethan called Kenneth and Shane out from the secret realm and had them stay in the villa next door, where Hannah and Camila used to live.
With Kenneth, a grandmaster, and Shane, a master, secretly protecting his family, Ethan felt a bit more at ease.
But he still didn't feel completely safe.
The enemies he faced now were far different from before. It wasn't something that could be handled by bringing a few people from the Wilson family. Even Elmer, a late-stage master, might not be of much help, and if Elmer got involved, it could cause panic within the Wilson family.
Since becoming the head of the Wilson family, Ethan had left most of the family's affairs to Elmer and Zephyr. He hadn't had time to deal with business matters, and now it wasn't appropriate to drag the Wilson family into this!
After settling Kenneth and Shane, Ethan spent the night with Chloe and the others in the villa. Early the next morning, he left alone.
He left Orla at the villa and went alone to Lakeview Resort on the outskirts of Novaria.
Lakeview Resort was a newly developed vacation area on the outskirts of Novaria, not yet well-known, so there weren't many tourists.
Ethan came here specifically to meet Patricia and Deborah, who had rushed over last night.
After receiving Ethan's call last night, they took a flight to Novaria and checked into Lakeview Resort. This was Ethan's backup plan after suspecting that his family might be targeted.
There weren't many people he could trust now. The Ladies Guild was a barely acceptable choice, at least more reliable than the Wilson family.
"Mr. Wilson, we thought it would be a while before we saw you again. But we received your call to come to Novaria just after parting yesterday. Did something happen?"
In a reception room at the resort, Patricia asked directly upon seeing Ethan.
Although she was full of questions when she received Ethan's call yesterday, she didn't ask much and agreed to come to Novaria. Both she and Deborah knew that Ethan wouldn't contact them so suddenly unless it was something significant.
