Chapter 615 Heartless Rejection
"Ethan, do you like Bonnie or me?" Margare asked, her eyes full of hope. Bonnie, caught in the middle, immediately perked up, eager to hear Ethan's response.
"Can I pick neither?" Ethan replied with a helpless grin.
"No way! Bonnie's gorgeous, and I'm adorable. How can you not be interested? I thought you'd say you want both of us!" Margare pouted angrily.
"Alright, I'll be straight with you. I actually have a wife and kids," Ethan confessed, hoping to end the conversation.
Margare's face fell instantly, and Bonnie, who was driving, almost lost control of the wheel. Bonnie thought, 'He already has a family! Of course, a great guy like him won't be single.'
The car fell into an awkward silence. Bonnie managed to keep her cool, but Margare's emotions were written all over her face, her eyes welling up with tears.
"Come on, we've only known each other for two days and met twice. Is hearing that I have a wife and kids really enough to make you cry?" Ethan said, wide-eyed.
"Bonnie and I are such good catches, and you chose someone else to marry and have kids with. I hate you!" Margare said, her face full of hurt. Despite her words, she clung to him even tighter.
"Please don't do this. People might get the wrong idea," Ethan tried to comfort her.
"I don't care. You've already stolen our hearts, so you have to take responsibility!" Margare pouted, making Ethan feel even more helpless.
He thought saying he had a family would make her back off, but it only made things worse. Margare was even more determined!
"Enough! Margare, he doesn't feel that way about us. Why are you doing this? Besides, you're still in school. Stop thinking about such nonsense. I'm taking you home!" Bonnie suddenly snapped. Margare shivered and quieted down, sensing Bonnie's genuine anger.
Ethan sighed in relief and quickly pulled his arm out of Margare's embrace. Margare, already teary-eyed, couldn't hold back her tears any longer and started crying.
"Margare, it's not a big deal. There are plenty of good guys out there, and I'm not even a good guy. Bonnie's saying this for your own good," Ethan said softly, trying to comfort her.
"She yelled at me!" Margare said, pointing at Bonnie with a face full of grievance.
"Hasn't she yelled at you before? Why didn't you cry then?" Ethan asked with a bitter smile.
"It's different this time. I know she's really mad. She's just taking it out on me because she's upset that you have a wife and kids!" Margare wiped her tears and explained seriously.
"That's not true, Mr. Wilson. Don't listen to her nonsense," Bonnie quickly interjected, not yelling this time.
Margare's words clearly hit a nerve, making Bonnie feel a bit guilty. But at least they stopped pestering Ethan, giving him a moment to breathe.
Not long after, Bonnie dropped Margare off at her neighborhood. Although Margare left decisively, Ethan knew she was still looking back longingly from the hallway as the car drove away.
'Could Margare be serious?' Ethan thought with a bitter smile. If so, he needed to act swiftly and decisively to put an end to their ideas.
Half an hour later, on the road leading to Vast Mountain on the outskirts of the city, Bonnie pulled the car over.
"Strange, no cars have dared to head towards Vast Mountain these days. Why are there so many today?" Bonnie muttered, noticing the occasional car passing by.
"That means Patricia and the others have successfully spread the word!" Ethan said with a smile.
"You mean those people in the cars are from hidden sects?" Bonnie asked, her heart skipping a beat.
"They're just rushing to their deaths," Ethan said nonchalantly.
"Should we stop them? If they go to Vast Mountain now, won't they alert the enemy?" Bonnie asked, frowning.
"No need. There are always people who think they're smart or lucky. Let them go test the waters at Vast Mountain first." Ethan shook his head indifferently.
"So that's why you told Patricia not to rush up Vast Mountain! Then why are we waiting here?" Bonnie asked, suddenly understanding.
"To watch the show. Vast Mountain is going to get more and more lively. I want to see how the ML Guild deals with these uninvited guests!" Ethan said with a hint of schadenfreude.
Although he wouldn't use extreme measures against the ML Guild or go on a killing spree, letting these hidden sects fight among themselves for a while was fine. And once these unimportant people were dealt with, the real players would show up!
The ML Guild had a super sect behind them; perhaps other sects also had similar backing.
"But we're still over thirty miles from Vast Mountain. We won't know what's happening there from this distance. Should we get closer?" Bonnie suggested.
"No need. We don't have to be at the foot of Vast Mountain to know what's happening there." Ethan shook his head. He was already exposed. If he got too close to Vast Mountain and was detected by Dirk and the others, it would ruin all the plans. Now was not the time for him to show up.
