Chapter 467 Clear Up the Misunderstanding
After spilling his guts, Ethan suddenly got up, shot a look at the quiet Curtis, and said, "Just needed a drink and a chat about Mom. No pressure, man. I ain't here to twist your arm or make you patch things up with her."
Ethan set the empty beer bottle down. "Thanks for the booze."
With that, he headed for the door, not looking back. He'd snuck in over the courtyard wall, but he wanted to leave through the front door this time.
"Then why'd you come here and say all this?" Curtis, who'd been silent, suddenly asked as Ethan was about to open the door.
"To give you both a shot. I don't want Mom to have regrets, and I don't want you to either," Ethan said, stopping for a moment before disappearing into the night.
Under the dim light, Curtis stared at the empty beer bottle Ethan had left behind, lost in thought.
The next morning, Ethan and Jessie, along with Jared's family, visited Carl and Nicole's graves before getting ready to leave.
"Ethan and I have stuff to handle, so we can't stick around. If you don't want the money Ethan gave you, fine, but you gotta take the compensation for Jared. They should drop it off today; it's what you deserve," Jessie reminded Jared's family before they left.
"Don't worry, I'll give the money to my folks and take them to the city," Jared promised.
"I know you're good people. If you get the chance, bring your parents to Novaria. We have each other's contacts, and it's not far," Jessie reminded Jared again.
"Jessie, will you come back?" Gerald asked, not wanting to see her go.
"I will. Once I'm done with my stuff, I'll visit whenever I can," Jessie promised.
"Alright, make sure to visit your parents and Curtis when you can." Gerald mentioned Curtis, looking a bit awkward.
"When I get the chance, I'll explain everything to him." Jessie smiled, shook her head, and got into the car with Ethan, under the watchful eyes of Gerald's family.
Seeing Jessie's slightly teary eyes, Ethan sighed. He knew she had regrets and hoped Curtis wouldn't let her down.
Starting the car, Ethan and Jessie began their journey home.
Just as they were about to leave Smith Village, an old Santana sedan and three familiar faces appeared by the roadside.
Ethan hit the brakes and pulled over.
"Why'd you stop?" Jessie, lost in thought, asked instinctively. Then she saw the three people by the roadside and was stunned.
Seeing Curtis and his family, Ethan couldn't help but smile. Looked like his talk with Curtis last night had worked; Curtis wasn't so heartless after all.
"Don't just sit there, Mom. C'mon, let's get out of the car," Ethan gently nudged Jessie.
"Right." Jessie snapped out of it and quickly got out.
Ethan also got out and walked towards Michelle and the pale-faced Bradley, giving Curtis and Jessie some space. "Michelle, Bradley, let's have a chat?"
"Chat about what?" Bradley asked, looking a bit freaked out and taking a couple of steps back.
"Scared of me or something?" Ethan chuckled, seeing Bradley's reaction.
"Ethan, don't be mad. Bradley's still shaken up from yesterday," Michelle quickly jumped in to defend him.
"It's cool. Bradley's just a worker at Jimmy's company and hasn't done anything shady. If he had, even if he was my mom's nephew, I wouldn't let him off easy." Ethan shrugged, making it clear he wouldn't tolerate any funny business.
"We understand," Michelle nodded quickly.
"We're family, no need to be so stiff. I checked out Bradley's profile. He didn't finish college, but he's got some business smarts," Ethan said, giving Bradley some props.
"I've always been talented; I don't need you to tell me that," Bradley muttered under his breath.
"Bradley, with your limited skills, how dare you show off in front of Ethan?" Michelle scolded, giving him a light smack on the head.
"Young folks should have some pride. It's cool; having confidence is a good thing," Ethan laughed it off.
"Bradley's a good kid; he's just been spoiled by me and can be a bit arrogant and clueless about how to talk properly," Michelle said, a bit embarrassed.
"It's all good." Ethan shook his head, then looked at Bradley and asked, "Ever heard of the Cloud Group?"
Bradley looked puzzled. "The Cloud Group? That's the top company in Novaria. Of course, I've heard of it."
"If you know about it, are you interested in showing off your skills there?" Ethan asked with a grin.
"You're kidding, right? You can get me into the Cloud Group?" Bradley stared at Ethan, shocked.
"To be straight with you, the Cloud Group is my company. Getting you in is just a word from me," Ethan said seriously.
"The Cloud Group is your company?" Bradley and Michelle both stared at Ethan, totally floored.
"Yeah, it's just one of my businesses. But I want to know if you're down to join the Cloud Group?" Ethan asked Bradley again.
"Can I?" Bradley was stunned. He knew his limits and never thought he'd get a shot at a big company like the Cloud Group.
"Yep, for sure. Now, hurry up and thank Ethan," Michelle nudged Bradley.
"But let me be clear, I'm not bringing you in to give you special treatment. I'm giving you a shot because of our connection. With your skills, you'll start from the bottom. How far you go depends on you," Ethan warned them both seriously.
"He can do it. Even if he starts at the bottom, he's willing. Are you dumb? Hurry up and say yes!" Michelle wasn't dumb. With Ethan backing him, even starting at the bottom meant a bright future for Bradley.
"I agree." Bradley finally snapped out of it and nodded.
No joke, even starting as a junior employee at the Cloud Group was a huge break for someone without a college degree like him. Only an idiot would say no.
