Chapter 280 The Feisty Lyra
Carlos and Clarence exchanged a glance, both noticing Ethan's preoccupied look, but he clearly had no intention of sharing, so they didn't press further.
In fact, Ethan was startled by his idea. He thought, 'If Roy and his group are indeed after the two beads on me, why are they searching for so many random rare minerals? Could it be that the Moon Bead and Sun Bead aren't the only ones, or could they even be mass-produced?'
Ethan quickly dismissed this unrealistic thought. Since he couldn't figure it out, he decided not to dwell on it. As long as he continued investigating, he believed the truth would eventually come to light!
The only thing he could be sure of at the moment was that they, at least, didn't know he had them, whether Dorian and Roy were after the beads on him or not. Otherwise, Dorian wouldn't be going through so much trouble!
As Ethan left Carlos' study, he heard Sarah's voice from nearby. She had evidently been waiting outside.
"Ethan, why did you come back alone? Where's Chloe?" Sarah asked with a smile.
"She went back. She's leaving for Novaria tomorrow and wants to spend some time with Percival," Ethan replied absentmindedly.
"Did everything go as planned last night? How do you plan to thank me for creating that romantic opportunity for you two?" Sarah teased, her tone playful.
"How do you want me to thank you? How about I reward you tonight?" Ethan replied with a mischievous grin.
"Didn't you have enough fun last night?" Sarah retorted, her face flushing with embarrassment.
"She might not be up for it today, but I could give it a try with you!" Ethan laughed heartily.
At that moment, the study door opened, and Clarence walked out. It was clear he had overheard part of their conversation.
"I'm planning to visit the Miller family. Do you want to come along?" Clarence asked.
Ethan was embarrassed. He quickly signaled to Sarah, ready to make a swift exit.
"You two need to stop fooling around and be mindful of where you talk. Aren't you afraid of being laughed at? Don't rush off; I have something to discuss with you," Clarence said as he walked away.
Ethan had to follow, with Sarah in tow.
"Grandpa, what do you need to tell us?" Sarah asked nervously as Clarence sat down on a stone bench.
"You two are heading back to Novaria tomorrow. Your dad and I will stay in Everglow City for a while before returning. While I'm not in Novaria, you take care of the house. Don't neglect it just because you have a man now!" Clarence advised Sarah with a resigned look.
"Got it," Sarah replied, glaring at Ethan.
Ethan rolled his eyes, thinking, 'How is this my fault?'
"Ethan, once you're back in Novaria, take good care of Sarah. I won't say more, but if she suffers any grievances, I won't stand for it!" Clarence warned Ethan.
"Don't worry. I wouldn't dare let her suffer," Ethan replied with a wry smile.
"Just remember what you said. That's all I have to say. You can go now," Clarence said sternly.
Ethan immediately signaled to Sarah, and the two quickly left.
"It's all your fault, making me look bad in front of Grandpa!" Sarah complained to Ethan once they were out of Clarence's sight.
"Now it's all my fault?" Ethan said, feeling frustrated as he rubbed his nose.
"Did you already forget what you promised my grandpa?" Sarah immediately glared at him.
"Alright, it's all my fault." Ethan quickly raised his hands in surrender.
After leaving the Harris family, Ethan took Sarah to the Miller family to meet up with Chloe. The three of them spent the afternoon chatting with Percival until Lyra came home from school.
"I can't believe you're so outrageous, even messing with Lyra!" Sarah teased when she heard that Ethan was going to pretend to be Lyra's boyfriend at Hubert's birthday party that night.
"Stop talking nonsense! I already told you I'm doing this to warn Hubert and to gauge Roy's reaction. Why are you making a fuss?" Ethan said, glancing at Percival's expression. Seeing no reaction, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sarah, if I really compete with you for Ethan, don't cry!" Lyra suddenly chimed in, looking smug.
"Lyra, don't say such things!" Chloe immediately glared at Ethan.
"Poor me; you all just bully me!" Ethan felt extremely wronged.
"Others would love to be bullied by us but don't have the chance. You should be grateful. But I didn't expect you to actually plan on competing with Chloe for Ethan." Sarah laughed, giving Lyra a thumbs-up.
"Since Ethan and Lyra still have to attend the event, you should get going. Chloe and Sarah, stay and have dinner with me," Percival finally coughed lightly, giving his instructions.
"Ethan, let's go!" Lyra made a face at Sarah, grabbed Ethan's hand, and ran out of the living room, laughing.
"What are you doing? Don't forget I'm your brother-in-law!" Ethan reminded her, feeling exasperated as she dragged him out.
"At least tonight, you're my boyfriend!" Lyra reminded him seriously, "I'm not even shy, but you're being all hesitant. Be careful, or I'll look down on you!"
Ethan was shocked he was being looked down upon and warned her fiercely, "Don't say I'm taking advantage of you!"
"I'm giving you the chance to take advantage of me. Do you dare?" Lyra said, provocatively puffing out her chest.
Ethan quickly turned his head, thinking, 'Do all the Miller family daughters have such good genes? Both Chloe and Lyra have amazing figures. Why?'
"Let's get going, Ethan. Hubert said the birthday party starts at six. Don't be late!" Lyra urged, laughing at Ethan.
Ethan regretted, thinking, 'If I had known that Lyra was formidable, I would have avoided her from the start!'
"By the way, brother-in-law, since we're going to a birthday party, shouldn't we prepare a birthday gift?" Lyra suddenly remembered a detail she had overlooked as they drove to the hotel.
Ethan was also taken aback. "I think we did forget about that. Do we really need to bring a gift for his birthday?"
"Maybe," Lyra replied.
