Chapter 1019 He Took It
However, Jameson had never seen Benson's name on the list of the guests.
His face dropped as he considered this.
"I've never seen his name."
Mrs. Ramsey was taken aback when she heard this.
"How could this be..."
At the same time, Mr. Ramsey seemed to be thinking about something. Then, he exclaimed, "If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have overlooked it. I just realized I hadn't seen Benson today."
The truth appeared to be very clear at this moment.
Recognizing this, Jara said in a deep voice, "I'm afraid I'll have to trouble Mrs. Ramsey to get in touch with your nephew."
Mrs. Ramsey gave a quick nod.
"Okay, I'll give him a call right now."
As she uttered, she fished out her phone and was about to call Benson.
However, when she dialed the number, she discovered that the phone had been switched off.
The couple was astounded by what they witnessed.
"Ah? Why did he switch off his phone? Don't worry. I'll give him another call."
As Mrs. Ramsey said, she phoned several times in succession.
However, Benson still couldn't be reached no matter how hard she tried.
This time, even Mrs. Ramsey panicked.
Seeing that she was about to call again, Clarissa directly stepped forward and stopped her.
"There's no need to call anymore."
Then, she turned to look at Jameson. "Something must've happened to Benson, or he fled away. He disappeared right after Jade of Heaven was taken. There is no such a coincidence in the world. Jameson, you have a lot of connections here and are familiar with this area. Send someone to locate him."
Jameson nodded. Mr. Ramsey was quick to respond when he saw this, saying, "I'll tell you about a few spots where he frequently visits. You send someone to look for him there first."
So, the two of them walked aside and made a phone call.
On the other hand, Clarissa noticed Mrs. Ramsey's pale complexion and troubled look, and she felt a little sorry for her.
After all, they couldn't conclude that Benson had taken the jade now.
Nevertheless, based on the current evidence and the existing situation, Benson was the biggest suspect.
After all, only he had access to the house and was out of contact now.
Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey had no children. Hence, they had always regarded Benson as their own child. It was apparent that if they discovered Benson had betrayed them, they would be heartbroken.
At the thought of this, Clarissa sighed and went forward to comfort Mrs. Ramsey. "Don't worry, Mrs. Ramsey. It may be a misunderstanding. Let's find Benson first."
Mrs. Ramsey nodded.
Soon, Jameson had arranged for people to look for Benson in different directions.
Following that, Mrs. Ramsey led everyone into the living room and sat them down. She then ordered a servant to serve tea.
Mr. Ramsey expressed his concern when he noticed her expression was not good, "Don't worry. I'm here. Go back to your room and rest. I'll let you know if there's any news."
Yet, Mrs. Ramsey shook her head.
"How can I fall asleep in such a situation?"
Then, looking at Mr. Ramsey expectantly. she questioned, "Do you think Benson really took it?"
His face furrowed with a hint of sympathy.
In the end, he shook his head.
"I don't believe it's him, but we have to find him first."
Hearing this, Mrs. Ramsey could only nod.
Jameson's men were lightning-swift; it didn't take them long to track down Benson.
However, when they brought Benson back, he was in a bad state. He wasn't as graceful as he had once been.
He appeared to be a little worn out. His clothing was ripped, his hair was unruly, and he had dust and blood smears all over his face. He appeared to have been in a fierce fight with someone.
Mrs. Ramsey's eyes goggled in astonishment when she saw him in this state.
"Benson, what's wrong? Who hit you?"
As she said, she rushed to him and hugged him distressedly.
Benson grumbled glumly, "No one hit me. I did it myself."
"How did you end up like this?"
At the end of the day, Mrs. Ramsey still felt sorry for him.
Benson raised his head and gazed at the people present. A sense of guilt soon flared in his eyes.
"I..." He hesitated for a while, then said in a low voice, "I saw they come to get me, and I wanted to run away, so I... I fell."
At this point, Jameson stepped forward and explained, "My men are inconsiderate, and they may have frightened Mr. Melton. Mrs. Ramsey, please forgive them."
Only then did Mrs. Ramsey understand what had happened.
Her heart was immediately at ease, but her countenance quickly grew solemn.
"Benson, tell me the truth. Did you take the jade from the safe?"
Benson was stunned.
He probably did not expect Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey to pursue him with such zeal.
With a forced smile, he admitted it.
"Yes. I took it."
The next second, he pleaded quickly, "Aunt, I really have no other way. I only used it as a pledge. I will surely redeem it when I have enough money."
Mrs. Ramsey's face changed.
"A pledge? Who did you hand it to?"
"A business acquaintance."
When it came to this, Benson seemed to be guilty again.
How could Mr. Ramsey be unaware of what was going on at this point?
"Tell me everything from beginning to end!" he yelled, his face darkening.
Benson's heart skipped a beat. He realized he couldn't get away with it if he tried to deceive them.
He didn't recognize all of the people on the spot, but he did recognize two of them. They were truly remarkable individuals.
Such a person actually appeared in the house today. They were most likely dealing with something important.
Could it be for the jade?
That shouldn't be possible. Except for its good quality, the jade didn't appear to be particularly remarkable.
In fact, it wasn't even close to being a top-tier jade.
When he considered it this way, he felt a bit relieved.
Finally, he explained why he had taken the jade.
It turned out that Benson had been working in Mr. Ramsey's company.
However, his greed had grown in the past two years. He did not wish to work for Mr. Ramsey anymore and wanted to start a business.
His parents were both ordinary people. He had gained a lot of insight through the years solely because he had a good aunt and uncle-in-law.
Besides, Mrs. Ramsey treated him as her own child. She thought it was also a good thing that he had the idea of starting a business.
He was obedient and kind. It also showed his capability if he could go out and make a living on his own.
As a result, they provided him with a substantial start-up fund.
Benson had started two production businesses in the last two years, and his business had been growing. He was so engrossed in his work that they barely even see him.
