Chapter 757 First Encounter

Right there, she met the person whom she would never forget for the rest of her life.
So, how was her first encounter with him?
Now that she thought about it, she would describe it as extremely ordinary. There was no special scene, no extraordinary appearance, and even less of a unique identity and aura.
That day, in the backyard, she saw a boy around eleven-year-old sitting under a grape rack while being engrossed in reading his book.
Although he was a boy, he was as delicate and beautiful as a girl.
His eyes were big, his eyelashes were long, and his skin was as fair as snow.
That time, he was wearing a neat suit, together with a pair of leather shoes. Besides, his hair was neatly combed. Even when he was studying, he looked different from a normal child, as if he was a teenager or there was an older soul living in that tiny body.
The moment Emmeline saw him, she was stunned.
Just then, the young boy put down his book and raised his head as if he had sensed someone's presence.
His eyes were cold and calm like a lake in the snow mountains, which instantly seeped into her heart.
Most probably, she would never forget this encounter for the rest of her life.
With enthusiasm, Grandpa Farrington brought her into the courtyard and introduced, "Come, meet my student. He is Jara Holland. From now on, you can call him Jara."
After that, he introduced Emmeline to Jara, "This is Emmeline Illington. From now on, she will be my granddaughter. As the elder brother, you should get along well with her, okay?"
Hearing that, Jara did not nod nor shake his head, much less agree.
Instead, he just frowned slightly. Although he was just eleven or twelve years old, he was like a precocious man with a serious look.
With a suspicious tone, he spoke, "Emmeline Illington? Isn't she the stepdaughter of the Murray Family? How did she become your granddaughter?"
Upon hearing his words, Grandpa Farrington was rooted to the spot.
Perhaps, he didn't expect that Jara would know about the town affairs as Jara spent most of his time in the courtyard.
With that, Grandpa Farrington sighed helplessly and could only share Emmeline's story with Jara.
After knowing everything, Jara did not show any sympathy. On the contrary, he snorted coldly.
Then, he uttered, "Whatever. As long as she doesn't disturb me when I am reading, the rest has nothing to do with me."
After that, he sat down again and continued reading.
As Grandpa Farrington was used to Jara's reaction, he smiled and left with Emmeline.
Even so, Emmeline felt a little strange.
Who was this kid? He had such a bad attitude.
How could he talk to Grandpa Farrington this way? Grandpa Farrington was a kind person who was willing to take in a homeless girl and teach him.
This was outrageous!
Crossed, she puffed her cheeks and turned around. Originally, she wanted to glare at Jara and let him know that she was not someone to be trifled with.
However, at the sight of him reading, she thought that he looked tranquil and attractive, like a gemstone shining in the sun.
Instantly, she was puzzled.
For a split second, she thought that perhaps in this world, there was no other young boy who was as gorgeous as him.
Fine. For the sake of his good-looking appearance, she would let him off the hook!
But next time... not that easy.
Ever since then, Emmeline lived with Grandpa Farrington in the orphanage.
In that era, most of the laws on children's rights and protection were not fully introduced.
Therefore, no one even cared when she left her family and came to the orphanage.
After Mrs. Illington learned about the situation, she came to see Emmeline several times and wanted to take her back.
However, Emmeline refused.
Moreover, she was very resolute. It seemed like she had lost all the trust in her mother.
Knowing about that, Mrs. Illington was very sad and helpless.
But at the same time, she felt rejoiced deep in her heart.
In fact, she knew Grandpa Farrington too and acknowledged that he was a nobleman with prestige, knowledge, and achievement.
If Emmeline could stay with him, it would be a good thing too.
Hence, Mrs. Illington made up her mind and stopped persuading her.
On the other hand, Mr. Murray did not appear at all.
With this situation, Grandpa Farrington could see through the thoughts of the Murray family. After all, he had lived for decades.
Mr. Murray was selfish and was only concerned about profit. To him, Emmeline was nothing but a drag, and he never wanted to be responsible for her.
No wonder Emmeline would rather stay here and be Grandpa Farrington's granddaughter than going back home.
Thinking of this, Grandpa Farrington couldn't help but sigh.
Deep down, he got more sympathized with what Emmeline had gone through.
On the contrary, Emmeline was very open about it.
In her opinion, she was not happy in that family anyway, so it was better to follow Grandpa Farrington.
"Mom has her own life she wants, so I will repay her kindness by not becoming a burden to her," she thought.
Once Grandpa Farrington saw Emmeline choose to take things easy, he felt happier.
In this town, he had some power and influence. So, after going through some simple procedures, he successfully adopted her.
Since then, Emmeline had lived in the orphanage.
After she stayed here, she realized that Jara's family was actually the orphanage's patron. However, his health was poor, and he was unable to go to school.
As for Grandpa Farrington, he used to be a graduate and was knowledgeable. That was why Jara's family had specially made a deal with him.
According to the deal, Jara's family would sponsor the orphanage while Grandpa Farrington would be Jara's teacher and assist him in his homework.
Actually, Jara was Grandpa Farrington's favorite. Although Jara rarely speak and was a little cold at times, he was intelligent.
No matter what Grandpa Farrington taught, he could understand upon the first explanation.
Compared with that, Emmeline's intelligence was obviously useless in front of him.
Due to the convenience of learning, Jara stayed here as well.
Even so, he was a guest here and had his own servants, butlers, and nannies.
It seemed like he was the son of a rich and noble family.
But Emmeline was different.
She was just a homeless girl that could only stay here after begging Grandpa Farrington.
Therefore, to make Grandpa Farrington happy, after class, she would help him cook, wash clothes, clean the courtyard, and take care of the younger orphans.
Nevertheless, Grandpa Farrington had told her several times that she didn't have to do this.
Since he promised to keep her, he would not drive her away, so she did not have to please anyone.
