Chapter 896 Waste Your Effort
She heard footsteps, and soon, the truck door was opened.
"Come down!"
A man said to them coldly.
Josie stood up, came over to Emmeline's side, and assisted her in getting up.
Emmeline smiled as she stared at her bound foot and asked, "Do you expect me to jump off the truck like this?"
With a frown, Josie examined the rope that was tied to Emmeline's foot.
As she was ready to bend down to help untie the knot, the man at the door stopped her.
"That isn't necessary. You can stay inside the truck all night if you think it is inconvenient for you to jump out. In any case, we have no objections."
After that, he ignored her and strode away.
Emmeline was stunned.
She didn't expect the other party to be so difficult to deal with.
At the side, Josie straightened her back and looked at Emmeline helplessly. "What do you think? Do you want to stay in the truck, or do you want me to help you jump off the car?"
Hearing that, Emmeline gave a faint smile.
She always knew that a wise man would not fight when the odds were against him. Although the truck was cushioned, it was nonetheless cold and hard. If she were to stay here for a night, she would surely catch a cold before she could escape. This wasn't worth it.
So she nodded with a smile. "I can move down by myself."
Then, she supported herself against the wall and moved out slowly.
Seeing this, Josie felt that Emmeline's actions were a little comical and could not help burst out laughing.
However, Josie soon stopped laughing and rushed up to hold her in case she fell.
After a long time, Emmeline finally got out of the truck.
They discovered a remote village ahead of them, and the truck was parked on the muddy road.
The soil on the ground was a little mushy due to the rain, and there were several puddles. The entire road appeared to be muddy.
She was still wearing the same flat white sneakers she had worn the night before. It was already filthy at this point.
However, Emmeline was unconcerned and followed them to the opposite village.
There weren't many people in the village, or, more accurately, there weren't many residents, to begin with.
They were followed by four men, and one of them soon knocked on a house's door. When the door was opened, a tanned face was shown.
They were conversing in their local dialect, which Emmeline couldn't understand.
Her brow furrowed. Although she didn't understand, she could tell by the accent that she was in the Middle East.
Nobody knew what they were saying. The man peered out the door and caught a glimpse of Emmeline and Josie behind. Finally, he nodded, opened the door, and let them in.
After being locked in the truck for a day, Emmeline was finally able to walk. So, she would do whatever they asked her to do at this time.
After entering the house, the group of people said something to the family. Then, the family handed over everything, including the keys, before turning around and leaving.
Emmeline had a gut feeling that the family would not return today. Perhaps they were only renting this family's home.
She had no idea what it was like here. So, she was unsure if she could be saved if she went out to ask for help at this point.
However, when she caught a glance of the bulging thing on the four men's waists, she recognized it was a gun and quickly dismissed the notion.
After all, despite their intimidating appearance, these were unarmed civilians.
Furthermore, they noticed her hands and feet were tied up just now and said nothing. She was afraid that she had already colluded with the folks here and that they would not assist her.
Running away was most certainly a one-time chance. She wouldn't be able to escape again if she didn't successfully do so the first time.
As a result, she must avoid acting rashly in the absence of a thorough grasp of the situation, lest she alerted the enemy.
With that thought in mind, Emmeline sat down obediently in the room that was prepared for her.
Soon, Josie brought in a basin of water and cleaned Emmeline's face with a towel.
Emmeline was a little touched. After all, it was difficult for someone to wash her face in such a circumstance.
So, she looked at Josie and said, "Thank you."
Josie's movements froze.
Her expression changed drastically.
"Why do you seem so awful when I'm thanking you?" Emmeline smiled faintly at her.
In fact, Josie knew Emmeline's thoughts very well. She was aware that Emmeline was trying to make her soft-hearted by being kind to her.
So, she said coldly, "Don't waste your effort. I can't help you, and I can't let you go."
After a little pause, she looked out, fearful, and murmured, "If you don't want anything bad to happen to you, you should follow their instructions. They are not ordinary people. I can't stop them if they really want to harm you."
Later, she packed up her things, turned around, and went out.
Emmeline remained still for a minute, silently contemplating what Josie had just expressed.
She was aware that these men were members of the Icarus Association. Of course, they were no ordinary people.
Nothing was wrong with Josie asking her to follow their words. But, until now, she had no idea what these people were up to by kidnapping her.
This was not a question that could be answered in a short period of time.
Emmeline was not in a hurry. Anyway, she would know sooner or later since she was here now.
With this idea in mind, she calmed and waited another half hour for Josie to bring in the dinner to feed her.
Emmeline did not object. She then requested to use the restroom after finishing her meal.
Thankfully, they didn't make things difficult for her, so they let Josie accompany her.
There was still a man following them when they went to the restroom. He followed them all the way to the restroom and stood there watching them enter. Then he arrived to stand guard at the door.
Knowing these men wouldn't let go of their guards easily, Emmeline knew she had no chance of escaping. Thus, she was not in a rush.
She thought back to the time when she was in that villa. Jara had already come looking for her. However, it was a pity that she had missed him because of Josie.
Now, she had no idea where he was, nor had he been able to track her down.
Hence, she had to leave some hints for him!
When Josie was not looking, she removed one of the buttons of her pants and tossed it into a corner.
She wasn't sure if Jara would recognize what was on her clothes, but it was better than nothing.
As she thought so, after going to the restroom, she followed Josie back to the room where she had stayed before.
By the time they finished dinner, the sky had already darkened.
After a long day, everyone was exhausted by the end of the day.
Nonetheless, they were unwilling to relinquish their vigilance against her.
