Chapter 839 Doubts Have Arisen

Not only would their past and background be investigated, but they also had to pass Jara's strict challenge before they could work here.
After all, the main building was the place he lived. Besides, all the confidential documents about him and the Lost Vanguard were here. If he let those who had evil intents in, trouble would highly likely occur.
However, this time, to make Emmeline feel more at ease and stay here comfortably, he made an exception to transfer Yunne here.
Actually, Emmeline was slightly worried, and she felt that maybe he shouldn't do that.
Nevertheless, it suddenly occurred to her that Jara must have considered the consequences before making any decisions.
Moreover, Yunne was just an orphan with a clean background, and she was still young. If she was really suspicious, he could just investigate her background again.
Hence, Emmeline stopped contemplating.
After Yunne came in, she was very happy to see Emmeline.
Before this, everyone said that Jara had misunderstood Emmeline for poisoning Kayla, so he chased her out of the castle.
Knowing about that, Yunne thought that she would never see Emmeline again and was relatively blue about it.
Even so, she now knew that Jara was only deceiving everyone, and Emmeline was back!
Entering the room cheerfully, she said, "Miss Illington, we meet again! I'm so happy to see you here!"
For several times, Emmeline had experience betrayal in friendship.
Therefore, she learned to take things easy this time.
Although Yunne was just a servant, when she saw Yunne again, she felt a sense of closeness.
Thus, Emmeline responded joyfully, "Hey, maybe you should stop calling me Miss Illington. That makes me feel distant, you know? If you don't mind, you can call me Emmeline from now on."
When Yunne heard that, her eyes lit up.
"Can... can I?"
Actually, there were many strict rules in the castle.
By right, Emmeline was a guest here, and she might even be Mrs. Holland in the future, whereas Yunne was just a servant.
So, Yunne never thought of calling Emmeline by her first name.
After looking at Yunne's reaction, Emmeline smiled and assured, "Of course you can. Don't worry about Uncle Poick. I'll go and talk to him."
Only then, Yunne teared up with joy.
"Okay, got it."
After a pause, she giggled, "Thanks, Emmeline."
To that, Emmeline nodded.
Then, she pointed to her box placed a few steps away. "Can you bring me my medicine?"
"Sure."
Right away, Yunne took out the medicine for her. After taking her pills, Emmeline was ready to have an afternoon nap. With that, she asked Yunne to go back to her room and come back up after having sufficient rest.
Yunne nodded. Once she saw Emmeline lay down in her bed, she left quietly.
The servants' room of the main building was located on the first floor behind the main building.
It was two to three minutes' walking distance from the place where Emmeline and Jara lived.
After Yunne returned to her room, Emmeline was still wide awake.
Perhaps because too many things had happened lately, she was disoriented. Despite lying on the comfortable bed, she was so frustrated that she couldn't catch a wink.
She closed her eyes, and she recalled the words Skylar had said to her before he left this morning.
He said he would come to her again.
Why would he want to see her?
What else did she have that they were so interested in and refused to let go?
In fact, she currently had nothing except for herself and her skills.
She did not have any power or wealth, let alone any secrets that would make people envious.
So, why did these people keep chasing after her?
Besides, they even let Keira died so tragically because of her.
When she thought of this, her breath became unstable.
She was in a state of extreme remorse and self-blame.
If she found out that Skylar was the one who killed Keira, she would never let him off.
Having this thought, she suddenly opened her eyes.
As if she had sensed something, she suddenly turned around and looked in the direction of the balcony.
Since it was five past one in the noon, the sun was blazing.
Although thick curtains were covering the entrance of the balcony, she could still see the sunlight coming in through the curtain gap.
Puckering her brows, she got out of bed and went to the balcony in her wheelchair.
As soon as she opened the curtains, the glaring sunlight shone toward her face. Immediately, she raised her hand to block the sunlight.
After a long while, she slowly put down her hand and looked outside.
There was a huge garden. Inside the garden, Uncle Poick was instructing a few servants to trim the leaves in the garden.
As the sun was scorching, the temperature was high, and everyone's clothes were soaked with sweat.
Upon looking at this scene, she frowned. Suddenly, she figured that something was off.
Before that, although she didn't consume the poison, it was indeed directed at her.
For the sake of fairness and Lilly's convenience, she and Kayla would have the same meals every day.
In fact, their meals were fine the whole time.
Even so, there was something wrong with the lemon.
What did this mean?
This meant that the culprit must be someone who knew her living habits very well.
Because at that time, as the weather was hot, she would ask Yunne to prepare a glass of lemonade for her every day.
On the other hand, Kayla had never told her servant to do so.
In other words, if Kayla did not crave iced lemon tea, Millay wouldn't snatch the lemon, and she would definitely end up be the one consuming the poisonous lemonade.
After all, she had been drinking lemonade for days before that incident.
And yet, it just so happened that there was a problem with the lemon.
This showed that the culprit had targeted her for a long time. Knowing that she would definitely have a lemonade, the culprit deliberately injected poison in the last lemon instead of the food she ate every day.
Basically, all the dishes were cooked using the same utensils, and the personal servants would normally get Kayla and Emmeline's meals from the kitchen on time every day.
If the culprit intended to poison the food in the kitchen, he or she could only put the arsenic in the pot of food. By doing that, Emmeline and Kayla would be poisoned at the same time.
And if the culprit wanted to poison her food outside the kitchen, it definitely wouldn't be easy too.
After all, Emmeline and Kayla's personal servants would either take their food straight to their room on the second floor or to the dining hall on the first floor. In fact, the distance between the kitchen and those two places was not far.
In this way, it only meant one thing.
