Chapter 207 Become The Burden

After sitting for a while, seeing that it was late and their makeup was almost done, Elliot got up and said, "It's late, and I have to go back to the company now."
Lara didn't want him to go and frowned.
"Are you leaving so soon? Can you accompany me a little longer?"
Elliot comforted her patiently, "I have something to deal with in the company. Besides, you won't have time to talk to me after you begin to film. I'd better leave and not bother you."
Hearing this, Lara had no nod.
"Okay! Let me see you off, and you must come to see me tomorrow."
Elliot agreed.
They turned around and walked out, but a clear voice suddenly came from behind before they took two steps.
"Wait!"
They turned around and saw Clarissa sitting on the chair and looking at them with a slight frown.
"Elliot, I want to ask you something."
Lara looked at her vigilantly, "Elliot is in a hurry to go back to work. If you have any question, could you ask him the next time?"
She didn't know why, but she always felt that Clarissa wouldn't say anything good when she looked at her eyes.
So it was better not to let them talk.
However, how could Clarissa and Elliot listen to her?
Elliot paused and said, "What? Say it."
Clarissa smiled slightly and stood up.
"Are you sure what you said to me last night is true?"
Elliot was shocked.
Clarissa sighed and said with a disappointed expression on her face, "If it is true, maybe I have really misunderstood you these days. I'm sorry. Thanks for your advice, and I will pay attention to it in the future."
Elliot didn't expect that she would ask this.
Countless thoughts flashed through his mind, and many emotions rose in his heart.
He was happy, moved, relieved, guilty and upset... Anyway, he had complicated feelings.
Lara didn't know what they were talking about, but she had a bad feeling in heart inexplicably. She looked at them with alert and suspicious eyes.
"Elliot, last night... Didn't you leave my lounge and go home directly? Why did you and Clarissa..."
Elliot was stunned. Then he came back to sense and immediately explained, "Oh, I thought of something at that time, so I stopped by and talked to her."
Lara's face changed.
"Why didn't I know that?"
"It's not something important, so I didn't mention it to you."
"But…"
"Elliot." Clarissa interrupted Lara and smiled at Elliot, "Don't worry. The thing that you're worried about won't happen. In return, I will remind you of something."
Elliot realized that she was serious, so he listened to her carefully and nodded, "Go ahead."
Clarissa glanced at Lara who was flustered next to her.
She said with a meaningful smile, "Although the Duncan Group has developed in Visstead for many years and has amassed a huge fortune, the market is fiercely competitive now. If you make a small mistake, you may suffer a great loss."
"You're the president of the Duncan Group, and the people around you are especially important, so I hope you can be more careful and rule the people around you. Don't let them become your future burden."
Elliot was shocked.
He looked at her in disbelief.
Lara suddenly screamed like a cat with its tail stepped on.
"Clarissa! What do you mean by that? Who do you think is the burden of Elliot?"
Clarissa glanced at her blandly.
She said with a faint smile, "Why are you so anxious? I didn't mention you. Are you so diffident in yourself? I just advised him kindly, but you think that I was talking about you?"
Lara was speechless.
Elliot's face darkened. He glanced at Lara with a touch of boredom and impatience in the depth of his eyes.
"I see. Don't worry. I will pay more attention to them."
Clarissa nodded, didn't say anything more and left with Nora.
After she left, the other two makeup artists saw that the atmosphere was strange, and they also went out sensibly.
Only Lara and Elliot were left in the dressing room.
Lara held his arm, looked up at him, and explained nervously, "Elliot, you have to believe me. I will definitely win credit for you and will never let you down. Don't believe her nonsense."
Elliot lowered his eyes and glanced at her, but his handsome face was not as gentle as just now.
He said coldly, "Of course I believe you. Besides, Clarissa might not be talking about you. Why are you so worried?"
Lara didn't know what to say.
How could she not be worried?
She had just signed with Twilight Entertainment when she was found to frame Clarissa five years ago. All her endorsements and contracts that had been negotiated were canceled, and she compensated a large amount of breach of contract damages.
After a long time, the scandal finally subsided and she got a role for her comeback, but she met Clarissa again, and her performance on the set was worse than hers several times.
If she couldn't make a comeback successfully, and if her performance in this drama was not as good as she had expected, she couldn't imagine what would happen to her!
This entertainment circle had always been cruel, and excellent new idols made their debut every day. She hadn't appeared in public for half a year, and half a year was enough to make some people forget her.
If she couldn't whitewash herself by acting in a good drama and prove her strength, perhaps more people would forget her.
At that time, Twilight Entertainment, which had invested a lot of money and effort on her, would absolutely suffer losses.
They had paid a large amount of breach of contract damages for her, and the board of directors held opinions against her. If she made Twilight suffer losses again, they would vent their anger on Elliot because he was her boyfriend.
Although the Duncan Group was a family business, it was no longer a traditional family business after raising capital several times.
Although Conner was still the biggest shareholder of the company and had the ultimate executive power, if the board of directors opposed to Elliot together, even he couldn't protect him.
Clarissa had made it very clear just now. Although Twilight Entertainment was not the only company covered by the Duncan Group, it was undoubtedly the most profitable, best-developed, and the most promising one.
If there was something wrong with Twilight, it would be very difficult for Elliot to run the whole Duncan Group.
As Elliot's fiancee, Lara of course understood this.
That was why she was so nervous.
Elliot looked down at her and smiled with aloof.
"Lara, you are my future wife. Naturally, we should trust each other and weather the storm together, so you don't have to take her words to heart. I believe you, just like how I believe myself. Understand?"
After listening to his words, Lara finally felt relieved.
She smiled reluctantly, "As long as you believe me."
After a pause, she thought of what Clarissa had said before she left and asked awkwardly, "Elliot, what... did you say to her last night?"
