Chapter 753 Being Delusional
So, Kayla made up her mind last night. If there was a chance, she must come over to find Uncle Poick and apologize to him face to face.
Having that thought, Kayla smiled gently.
Then, she immediately replied, "Uncle Poick, I'm not here to see Mr. Holland. I'm here to see you."
Upon hearing this, Uncle Poick froze.
He was a little surprised.
"Looking for me?"
"Yes, you've heard it right," Kayla replied. After that, she wanted to hold Uncle Poick's arm, but he dodged her without batting an eyelid.
At once, he took a step back, politely bowed, and said, "Miss Burke, I'm just a servant here, while you're an honored guest. So, please be self-cautious and don't make things difficult for me."
Instantaneously, Kayla's hands, which were in mid-air, froze.
Originally, she did not have any other intention. She just saw that Uncle Poick was old and had the urge to please him, so she subconsciously treated him like how she did with her grandparents at home.
By using body contact, she hoped that they could get closer to each other.
Moreover, since Uncle Poick had such a high position, Kayla assumed that he must have been married, and his grandchildren would probably be around her age. So, she thought that if she took the initiative to butter him up, he might forgive her.
Nevertheless, she didn't expect that Uncle Poick would avoid her. She just wanted to hold his arm and help him downstairs.
After all, Uncle Poick was almost seventy years old. Although he looked energetic, he might accidentally trip on the stairs.
But what was with his reaction?
He avoided her as if she had been infected with some virus. In this way, it seemed like he was distasteful of her.
If not, he probably despised her or thought that she was trying to do something to him.
Seriously? Was this old man out of his mind?
Even if she was useless and failed to hook up with Jara, she wouldn't be interested in him!
So, he should stop being delusional and acting aloof.
At that thought, Kayla was enraged, but she didn't dare to vent her anger.
Instead, she forced a smile and uttered, "What are you thinking about? I'm just worried that you're too tired, and I wanted to help you down the stairs. Have you mistaken my intentions?"
Although she had a smile on her face, there was a hint of malice flashing in her eyes, and she started to cursed inwardly.
"Humph! You old f*rt! How dare you look down on me?"
"I will make you pay for this."
When she spoke just now, she deliberately emphasized the last question. Obviously, she wanted to embarrass Uncle Poick.
And by saying that, she would seem above-board and generous, while Uncle Poick would appear petty and narcissistic.
But unexpectedly, Uncle Poick was calm. He nodded faintly and responded, "Thanks for your kindness, but I've lived in this castle for decades. Even with my eyes close, I can tell the height of each step, so you don't have to worry."
"As for a guest like you, you'd better not roam around without any business."
"After all, I heard that you are from a noble family, so you should be aware of your manners. Don't bring shame to the Burke family."
As soon as Kayla heard Uncle Poick's words, her bright smile froze.
Although his tone was very gentle and kind, she could sense the mockery behind his words.
It seemed like he was insulting her for being too bossy as a guest.
Besides, he was also warning her to stop wandering around.
If it wasn't for the sake of apologizing to him, why would she come here? Hadn't she been bullied enough by Jara the day before?
What was wrong with Uncle Poick?!
Instantly, Kayla was filled with rage.
Even so, Uncle Poick was like an iron fist in a velvet glove, so it wouldn't be easy for her to retort him.
In the end, she could only let out a cold snort.
"Sure. I just wanted to apologize to you for my misbehavior yesterday. Now that you've received my apology, I'll be heading back."
Once Kayla was done speaking, she turned around and left.
As Uncle Poick watched her leave, he remained still and kept a straight face.
After that, when she had completely left the building, he shook his head and sighed helplessly.
Kayla was really...
In fact, she was not airheaded. At least she knew that she had to apologize after offending him.
Moreover, she also knew that at this juncture, Jara was her only life-saving straw. So, to get his consent to stay here, she would try any possible means.
Regardless of that, she was not that smart after all.
With the experience and knowledge Poick had, he had seen more people than Kayla throughout his lifetime.
However, he had never seen such an arrogant apology and a woman who was this ill-tempered.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help laughing.
After all, he knew about Kayla's family background, so he could roughly understand.
She was merely a spoiled daughter from a rich family with petty shrewdness.
Since she was a child, the people around her tolerated her and fulfilled her desires.
Even if she did something wrong, she wouldn't apologize to anyone.
Unless she really had no choice, she would apologize unwillingly and arrogantly. As long as she apologized, she wouldn't care if the other person would accept it because if he didn't forgive her, it would be his problem.
To put it simply, she was a spoiled woman.
Whereas Uncle Poick had been through a lot, so he chose not to argue with her.
Feeling helpless, he sighed and was about to leave.
Just then, the study's door behind him opened.
Shocked, he turned around and saw Jara standing by the door.
Jara was about 1.85 meters tall. He was wearing a black shirt with long pants, and he looked macho with his sharp facial features.
As soon as Uncle Poick met Jara's eyes and his frowning brows, he froze for a while before he hurriedly walked to him.
"Mr. Holland."
Hearing that, Jara glanced at him.
Then, he turned his eyes back to the entrance of the stairs and asked, "Who was that just now?"
Uncle Poick's face changed at his words.
Subconsciously, he thought that Kayla was being too loud just now and disturbed him.
So, he hurriedly explained, "It's Miss Burke. She said that she offended me yesterday, so she was here to apologize."
When Jara heard Uncle Poick's explanation, his brows slightly creased.
At the thought of Kayla, the disgust and disdain in his eyes deepened.
However, instead of saying anything, he ordered, "Next time, please don't let her in without my permission."
"Yes, Mr. Holland."
"One more thing. Tell her that if she wants to stay here, she'd better behave herself. Otherwise, I won't be nice to her!"
