Chapter 501 Skeletons In The Closet
Evelyn looked at him with a smile. Hearing what he said, she tried hard to suppress the pain in her heart and frowned slightly, looking puzzled.
She wanted to ask him why she wasn't worthy of those opportunities.
It was not like Evelyn wanted to fight to have the upper hand, she just wanted to put on a complete show.
Nonetheless, Marty didn't give her the chance.
Seeing that she was about to speak, he could tell that she was going to say something even meaner.
But he didn't want to listen to it anymore.
His heart ached so much that his hand began to tremble.
On the other hand, he didn't want to insult her.
If Marty really spelled out the reason, it would mean that he really treated her like that kind of person.
Thus, countless excuses flashed through Marty's mind at that moment.
In the end, he said indifferently, "I dislike filth."
Evelyn's expression suddenly froze.
However, Marty didn't look at her anymore. He turned around and left.
This was the most tactful way he could think of.
Marty really felt that what he said was too much.
So much so that he didn't dare to look at her expression again.
If Evelyn admitted it, it was undoubtedly another critical blow to him.
On the other hand, if she didn't admit it and overturned the conclusion just now, all the efforts she had done before would be in vain.
Although he did not know her motive, at that moment, he understood that she wanted him out of his life.
It was her final straw and dignity to push him away like that.
Since she had made such a sacrifice, he would just give what she wanted.
To give her a little space, but also to give him a little time.
After saying that, Marty left her room.
Marty didn't waste any breath, nor he stayed to listen to her explanation.
Looking at Marty's receding figure, tears suddenly welled up in Evelyn's eyes.
However, she tried her best to hold back her tears.
Evelyn was afraid that if he turned back inadvertently, she would not be able to explain anything to him.
It was not until she heard the sound of the door slamming shut that she burst into tears.
Heart-wrenchingly.
But what she didn't know was that Marty hadn't gone far.
Leaning against her door, Marty couldn't help shedding tears when she heard the sound of her choking with sobs.
Marty's heart was in tremendous pain, so much so that he couldn't breathe.
But there was nothing he could do.
All Marty could do was to help her as much as he could.
She clearly loved him, but still fought the urge and pushed him away.
In that case, she must have skeletons in her closet.
Therefore, he could not put her in a spot.
Thinking of this, Marty forced a smile at the corner of his mouth.
He raised his head, wiped his tears away, and left as if nothing had happened.
Since he and Melodie had fallen out, there was no way for them to continue pretending to be a couple.
That was good. Now he could fool around with women again.
It would be just enough to recover from the emotional trauma he had just suffered from Evelyn.
Evelyn was lying on the bed. She didn't care about whether her body was exposed or not or whether she felt cold or not. She cried hysterically and cried her heart out.
Marissa's heart ached for her. She covered her with the blanket, held her in her arms, and kept caressing her back.
"Be good, Evelyn, don't be sad. Don't cry."
Marissa continued to coax her in a soft voice.
However, it was of no use. Evelyn still cried so hard that she even kept sobbing in the end, to the point that it was difficult for her to breathe.
Marissa knew that right now, she couldn't do anything. The only thing she could do was to keep her company.
So she didn't say anything, just quietly hugged her until Evelyn stopped crying.
After a long time, Evelyn finally came out of Marissa's arms with her eyes swollen.
Seeing this, Marissa quickly took out a tissue to wipe Evelyn's tears away.
Evelyn let her to wipe away her tears, and then quietly looked at Marissa, as if she had something to say in her eyes.
Marissa quickly stopped and waited for her.
But Marissa didn't expect that the first thing Evelyn said was to ask why Marty was here.
Upon hearing this question, Marissa's expression stiffened.
Evelyn didn't say anything. She just looked at her calmly after crying, waiting for her answer.
Evelyn knew that Marissa would not betray her, so it was impossible for her to ask Marty to come over at that time.
"So Marty must have come to find me." Evelyn thought.
However, she still needed to know when Marty had arrived and how he had forced Marissa to bring him upstairs.
In fact, her question was rather meaningless. She probably just wanted to know if she had gone too far from the answer given.
Of course, there was no meaning to what Evelyn was doing now, but she couldn't help but want to guess.
Maybe it was just a way to comfort her or to deceive herself.
At the moment, her heart was as cold as stone so she had to find something to comfort her.
Marissa didn't know what Evelyn was thinking.
In fact, Evelyn's real thoughts now were a little sick.
So Marissa was a little anxious.
She lowered her head and hesitated for a long time, not daring to say anything.
Evelyn only thought that she was too nervous.
"It's okay. Just say it. I won't be angry."
Marissa raised her head and carefully looked at Evelyn. After making sure that she would not be angry, she sighed and said in a low voice, "Marty threatened me with my family, saying that if I didn't bring him upstairs, he would make them all lose their jobs."
Evelyn was stunned. Obviously, it never occurred to her that Marissa would give such an answer.
As soon as Marissa saw her expression, she immediately panicked.
She thought that Evelyn was mad with her.
She quickly explained, "Evelyn, I don't want to betray you. I... I did it for my family. I don't want them to lose their job..."
But she was interrupted by Evelyn.
Evelyn slowly shook her head and said with a chuckle, "It's nothing. I can understand why you did that. In fact, even if I were you, I might do the same too."
The only thing that surprised her was that she didn't know Marty was willing to go the extra mile for her.
Evelyn added in her heart.
Marty had always been arrogant, cold, and ruthless.
If he were to play tricks, but he would always do it in a fair and aboveboard way.
He would clearly set up a trap right in front of that person, and let that person choose which path to take.
Marty had never used such a despicable means to threaten others.
But she also knew that Marissa would not betray her easily.
So she could only imagine how much effort Marty had spent but still failed to get Marissa to help him.
That was probably why he had no choice but to use this method...
However, even if that was the case, Evelyn felt that if Marissa really did not accede to him, he might really materialize his threat.
Therefore, it was not Marissa's fault.
In fact, Evelyn was right.
When Marissa went downstairs to buy medicine, she accidentally met Marty who just arrived at the downstairs of Evelyn's apartment.
No one, including herself, could imagine how deeply Marty cared about Evelyn.
Besides, everyone knew that Marissa was Evelyn's manager.
