Chapter 671 Keep It A Secret For Her

Evelyn would never have imagined that the relationship between Charlotte and Sue was like this.
Clint did not sit with them, and it was most likely because he did not think it was fitting. Besides, he did not have a common topic to talk about with them.
So, he ordered a cup of cold drinks for himself and sat aside.
At first, Evelyn thought it was strange. However, when she saw how Sue did not say anything else, she felt it was inconvenient for her to question further.
"Does Mrs. Blaine know about your return this time?" she asked, a small frown on her face.
Sue stared blankly for a moment as though she had not expected the question.
She also did not appear to have considered this question.
After a moment of silence, she said, "Probably not."
If Charlotte knew, she would undoubtedly hate Sue.
After all, Sue had once promised Charlotte to leave this place, leave that guy, and never return.
Yet, she broke her promise. She did not keep her words. Twenty years later, she got back.
"Charlotte, will you blame me if you find out that I'm back?" Sue thought to herself.
She seemed to be in a trance when she thought about it.
For a brief instant, Evelyn was at a loss for words. Her sixth sense told her that Sue and Charlotte's relationship was not just that.
After all, if they were just sisters, why did Buckley put Sue's photo in the book in secret?
Wasn't it very strange?
Evelyn had a faint guess, but she could not believe it was real.
While Charlotte objected to her relationship with Marty, it had not only caused them many troubles, but it had also harmed her pride several times.
However, she did not truly hate Charlotte.
Because Charlotte sometimes seemed very mean, but in reality, she was not a bad person.
If she truly had ill intentions, there would be a million ways to keep her from being with Marty.
However, she did not do so, not only out of her kindness but also because of her relationship with Marty. She didn't want to make things too unpleasant.
Evelyn lifted her head and stared at Sue as she reflected on this. Her eyes could not help but have a trace of scrutiny in them.
"I believe Mrs. Blaine will be happy if she finds out you are back."
Sue was slightly startled, but she soon regained her senses. Her expression changed slightly.
She frowned slightly and said, almost pleadingly, to Evelyn, "I would like to ask you a favor, Miss Hussain. Can you promise me?"
Listening to her words, Evelyn could tell how anxious Sue was.
Instead of directly agreeing to the request, Evelyn asked, "What is it?"
"Don't tell Charlotte about meeting me in Flaucford or my return."
Hearing that. Evelyn was stunned. She couldn't help but frown.
Then, she asked subconsciously, "Why?"
Sue's lips pressed together, but she didn't say anything.
The atmosphere was in silence.
After a long while, she finally said, "I did her wrong a long time ago. Also, despite my previous mistakes, she pulled me back from the jaws of death."
"When I left the Flaucford, I promised her that I would never return."
"I don't want her to overthink it and think that I've broken my promise. So Miss Hussain, please keep this a secret for me, okay?"
After, Evelyn looked at her. It was not until this point that she realized Sue and Charlotte's relationship was not as simple as she had previously assumed.
With that, she did not hurry to agree. Instead, she said, "But, in fact, you really did go back on your words, right?"
Sue was instantly bemused.
After a while, she smiled glumly.
"Yeah, I broke my promise."
As she spoke, she lowered her head and gently caressed the tiny creases on her dress.
Only then did Evelyn notice that it was summer already, and that was why it was scorching outside. Even though the air conditioner was switched on, it was not cold.
A normal person would have worn a short-sleeved shirt, but Sue was dressed in a long-sleeved dress with a thin cardigan on the outside.
This kind of attire, in such a season, was very unusual.
She had a vague guess in her mind, but there was no way to prove it.
Finally, Evelyn muttered helplessly, "I can only promise to not bring up your presence in front of Mrs. Blaine. But if she asks, then I will tell her the truth. I'm sorry."
In fact, Evelyn also had her own concern.
Though she had no idea what had happened between Sue and Charlotte, Sue had mentioned that she was not allowed to return from many years ago.
There had to have been some substantial disputes between them.
As Marty's wife, no matter whether Charlotte admitted her as a daughter-in-law or not, Evelyn didn't want to lie to her on such a serious matter.
She did not want to side with Sue because it would just exacerbate her relationship with Charlotte.
Besides, she had done this not only for her own good.
What was more important was that, while Marty did not seem to care for Charlotte on the surface, she knew that Charlotte was very important in Marty's heart.
She didn't want Marty to be caught between them and provoke any hostility between Marty and Charlotte.
As she thought about this, she let out a sigh.
"I'm really sorry, Sue. This is the only thing I can promise you. If you..."
"That's enough."
Sue suddenly interrupted her.
Afterward, Sue raised her head and looked at Evelyn with a sincere look of appreciation.
"Miss Hussain, I can understand you. After all, this was an impolite request. I really appreciate your willingness to accept it to this extent."
Hearing that, Evelyn let out a sigh of relief.
While she didn't want to lie to Charlotte, she also didn't want to hurt Sue.
Evelyn had no idea what had happened in the past; all she knew was that the woman in front of her now was gentle and kind. No matter who she met, she appeared to be as kind as an angel.
She liked Sue, so she didn't want to put her in a difficult position.
The ideal outcome would be that no one said anything and that Charlotte and Sue never met.
As she thought so, she lifted her wrist and glanced at her watch.
"It's getting late. Sue, do you want to continue shopping?" she asked.
At the same time, Sue lowered her head and coughed. Clint immediately got up and walked over when he saw this. He held her shoulders and said, "It's getting late. You should go back."
