Chapter 467 A Guest-turned Host
Charmaine showed a gentle and generous smile and said, "I went to see Old Madam Jordan yesterday. I heard that Clarissa was pregnant, so I came specially to see her. Hey? Where is she?"
At the mention of Clarissa, the tension in Anderson's eyes eased a little. He said in a gentle voice, "She's upstairs. She'll be coming down soon."
"Well, can I go up and see her?"
Anderson's gaze paused for a moment. His gaze swept across her delicate and innocent face before rejecting her.
"No, that's not necessary. She doesn't like to have outsiders to go up there."
As soon as these words were spoken, the room suddenly fell silent for a moment.
Outsiders...
With just a few simple words, Anderson managed to push her away and embarrass her like never before.
However, he didn't notice it at all. Charmaine's smile froze for a moment, before she regained her composure.
"Well, then I'll wait for her here."
Anderson didn't answer her. He turned around and ordered the servants to prepare lunch. After that, he told Charmaine to take care of herself and walked out.
About ten minutes later, Clarissa changed into a fresh set of clothes and descended from the stairs.
"Clarissa." Charmaine stood up from the sofa and greeted her with a smile.
To be honest, Clarissa was not familiar with Charmaine at all.
But after all, she was still a guest, so Clarissa still nodded and said with a smile, "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"No, it's me who didn't inform you in advance. Clarissa, I didn't disturb you, did I?"
Clarissa shook her head. "No, I'm very happy to have you here."
She looked calm and turned to ask Pattie where Anderson had gone. When she found out that he had gone to the gym in the villa, she was stunned for a moment.
Then Clarissa realized that he was not able to do any workout because of his injuries. He was probably just making up an excuse to avoid Charmaine, as he didn't want to entertain her. Hence, Clarissa didn't say anything more.
She ordered the servants to prepare lunch for an extra person. Charmaine wanted to help, but of course, Clarissa wouldn't let her do so.
Although they were not familiar with each other, she was still a guest. How could she let the guest help in the kitchen?
Unexpectedly, Charmaine smiled and said, "Clarissa, you don't need to stand on ceremony. I majored in nursing at school and specialized in dietary for pregnant women. Although there are servants in the villa, there's no harm in having a taste of my good. If you think it's good, it's also a kind of recognition of my profession."
Since she had said that, Clarissa would sound too aloof if she refused again.
She had no choice but to nod as she said with a smile, "Then don't wear yourself out. You come all the way here but still have to cook. If grandma knows about it, she'll think I have bullied you."
Charmaine smiled, an apologetic look appearing on her comely face.
"That won't happen. When I came here, Old Madam Jordan asked me to take care of your diet. After all, this is what I've learned in school."
After a pause, Charmaine added, "Although your servants will not be bad, they are still outsiders, aren't they? Your diet is very important during this period of time. You should have someone to take care of you to make things easier for you."
Clarissa's eyes lit up as she glanced at her.
Charmaine's smile was still gentle, but on the other side, Pattie's face fell.
Everyone knew that Pattie was in charge of the servants in the villa, from the front hall to the kitchen.
She was the one who hand-picked all the servants including the babysitter based on their abilities, moral character, so there would be no problem with them.
Charmaine's words were implying how unreliable the servants in the villa were.
On the other hand, it showed how kind she was to help them investigate the mole in the villa.
Clarissa's eyes were deep, and she glanced at Pattie.
In the end, she did not say anything. Clarissa just smiled and said, "Then I'll have to trouble you."
"You're welcome, Clarissa."
After Charmaine left, Clarissa lowered her gaze slightly. After a while, she turned back to her bedroom.
She took out her phone and called Old Madam Jordan.
"Grandma, what are you doing?"
"I'm watching cartoons with Anne. What's the matter?"
"Nothing, I'm just calling to ask."
"Oh, by the way, did Charmaine go to your place today?"
Clarissa curved her lips and said, "Well, yes."
"She found out that you were pregnant, so she insisted on visiting you. I had to tell her the address. She didn't bother you, did she?"
"No, I'm happy that she's here."
"That's good. I know that you like to be quiet, but Charmaine is not a person without a sense of propriety. I have asked her to make the visit short and sweet and go back to school as soon as possible, so she shouldn't cause you any trouble."
Clarissa's eyes darkened slightly.
At the thought of Charmaine's words, she smiled weakly.
"No trouble at all, but I might be the one who has been troubling her."
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing. It's probably because she doesn't trust the people here. Well, she went to the kitchen to prepare some food for me. I feel bad."
Old Madam Jordan was silent for a moment.
Moments later, Old Madam Jordan said embarrassedly.
"This lass... I was just praising her! She is probably being warm-hearted. Clarissa, don't take it to heart. If you don't like her, I'll not let her come next time."
"No, she's such a kind person. I felt warm in my heart."
"Good to hear that."
Clarissa exchanged a few words to her, before hanging up the phone.
Putting away the phone, she smiled playfully.
"Pattie."
Pattie, who had been waiting outside the door, rushed in as soon as she heard Clarissa.
"Young Madam."
"Send some capable men to the kitchen to help Miss Cole. After all, she is a guest. Don't wear her out."
"Yes."
After Clarissa gave the order, she didn't go downstairs again.
Now that she was pregnant, she got tired easily, so she went to the study to pick up a book to read while lying in the lounge chair.
It was noon.
After a while, Clarissa put down the book and went to the dining hall downstairs.
At this time, Anderson hadn't come back yet. She was sitting alone there. The table had already been set by the servants.
It didn't take long for Charmaine to serve the food on the table along with the servants.
Seeing Clarissa sitting there, she quickly put the dishes on the table and said with a smile, Clarissa, I'm sorry. I'm so clumsy. Please forgive me if they don't suit your taste."
Judging from her words, it seemed that she was the hostess here, while Clarissa was the guest instead.
Clarissa had always been tolerant to girls, not to mention Charmaine. Except that she lacked a sense of propriety, she didn't make any other mistakes.
Seeing that Charmaine was so busy that her forehead was full of sweat and her words were full of ingratiation.
Clarissa felt a little bad and said, "What are you talking about? I'm the one who should be sorry for troubling you. Come take a rest quickly! Leave the rest to the servants."
Charmaine shook her head, her face wreathed in smiles. "It's alright. I'm still making the soup. It'll be ready soon. Clarissa, please wait a little longer."
After that, she dived into the kitchen again.
