Chapter 941 Weird Old Man

"Hey, the two ladies are working now. So what are you guys doing here? My roof starts to leak when it rains. Do you know how to repair it? Go and help me repair the roof."
Anderson's expression was as cold as ice. Clarissa smiled as she tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Don't worry, Mr. Gill. We will get the roof repaired."
Taking a careful look at her, Mr. Gill then walked away satisfied.
After he left, Jara said in a deep voice, "I believe this old man is sick of living! Emmeline, you don't have to worry about those dirty clothes. I'm sure he'll hand over the item when the knife is put around his neck!"
He appeared to be sharpening the knife as he spoke.
Seeing this, Clarissa gave him a sidelong glance and rolled her eyes.
"Jara, I'm afraid what you've come up with will be of no use to Mr. Gill."
"Why?" Anderson frowned.
Clarissa sighed.
"Well, he has lived for so many years. Besides, he used to travel the world doing antique business when he was younger. What kind of formation is it that he hasn't seen before? Plus, he knows who we are since Grandma called him. But still, he persists in making things tough for us. It's obvious that he is unconcerned about this."
"Also, we are the ones who are now seeking his help. Since the items are in his hands, even if you kill him, he may refuse to tell you if he truly does not want to."
"After all, even if you don't care about his life, you must think about Emmeline's. We can't afford to have a falling out with him, so let's put up with it for a while. Then again, it's only a matter of mending the roof and doing the laundry. It's not a big deal. It's good as long as we can get the item!"
After hearing her statement, Anderson and Jara finally came back to their senses.
Emmeline also nodded. "Yes, it's lucky that he didn't demand that we kill anyone. At the end of the day, it's not good to get stuff for free. It is better to listen to him first and then see what he says."
The two men exchanged nods and had a quick discussion. They then split up and went their separate ways to do their chores.
It was naturally inconvenient to wash that many clothes in the courtyard.
Therefore, under the guidance of the neighbors, Emmeline and Clarissa moved the clothes to the riverside and began to wash.
Although Clarissa had led a tough life in the past, she didn't have to wash as many clothes by herself.
So, this was the first time she had washed so many garments at once.
Most importantly, the filth on the clothes was so bad that they had yellowed. Fortunately, they were dark in color, so they weren't too obvious. It would be more difficult to wash them otherwise.
Then, Clarissa sighed jokingly as she washed them
"Emmeline, It's a pair of hands that sign billions of dollars worth of orders that is helping you wash clothes. Not only this, the two pairs of precious hands are helping to repair the ceilings. You must recover as soon as possible; otherwise, all of our efforts will be for naught!"
When Emmeline heard this, she burst into laughter.
"Well, why don't you rest while I wash them?"
Clarissa raised her eyebrows.
"Are you sure you can wash all these clothes before the sun sets?"
"Nope," Emmeline answered truthfully.
"Then?"
With a gentle smile, Clarissa continued, "But don't be discouraged, though. Although Mr. Gill is making things difficult for us, he doesn't seem like a horrible guy. He'll definitely hand it over to us later if we follow his orders."
Emmeline went silent for a moment.
After a while, she forced a smile and responded, "Clarissa, thank you."
Clarissa was stunned. Noticing the look on Emmeline's face, she then said with a smile, "Oh dear, don't overthink it. We are friends, and it's right for us to help each other."
"Alright." Emmeline nodded.
Despite what she said, she knew in her heart that she and Jara owed Clarissa and Anderson a huge favor this time.
It was not a big deal to get Clarissa and Anderson to negotiate business since they were experienced.
However, they were now pleading for help on her behalf. Moreover, they had to do laundry and make repairs to the roof.
No matter how she returned the favor, it was insufficient.
She tightened her grip on her garment and lowered her eyes slightly. After a while, she took a deep breath and continued washing them.
They didn't finish washing the four barrels of clothes until it was nearly dark.
At that time, Anderson and Jara had also finished mending the roof. When they notice Clarissa and Emmeline hadn't returned, they went over.
Clarissa and Emmeline were soon spotted laying on a large stone by the river. Clarissa then waved to them as they approached.
"Hey, this way!"
Noticing that, the two of them dashed over. "You can carry it. We're tired," Clarissa said as she pointed to the four barrels of clothes.
It was only then that Anderson noticed Clarissa's slender and tender fingers had wrinkled and shriveled up after washing the garments for half a day.
Seeing this, he couldn't help but frown with heartache.
Clarissa hurriedly hid her hand when she spotted his stare. She said, with a chuckle, "It's alright. They'll be fine after some rest."
Then, Jara remarked after a long look at her, "Clarissa, I'll remember this favor."
Narrowing her eyes, Clarissa grinned slyly. "Okay, I'll remember what you said. You two can't say no to me if I need your help in the future."
"Of course!"
Seeing that they were almost done with their rest, the two men carried two buckets of clothes each and strolled back together.
"Do you think if we go back now, Mr. Gill will give us the thing?" Emmeline questioned on the way.
"Well, he doesn't have a choice," Jara sneered.
Anderson agreed with a nod. "Yes. Although we are asking for his help, he doesn't have complete control over this matter. As the saying goes, try fair means before resorting to force. Making things tough for others has a limit. Things will only get worse if we actually comply with all of his demands."
This time, Clarissa nodded in agreement as well.
The four of them eventually returned to Mr. Gill's villa. However, they discovered no one was home when they were about to ask him to come out and check the goods.
They just found out he had left in a hurry after going out to ask around.
Learning this, the four of them frowned.
Clarissa fixed her gaze on Anderson. "What do we do now?"
Anderson thought for a while before responding, "Let's wait. He can't run far since he's old. In any case, he'll have to return. Perhaps he had to leave for a while to attend to some business. In the meantime, let's wait."
Upon hearing this, the three of them agreed with a nod.
They then sat in the living room and waited.
However, they continued to wait until it was ten o'clock in the evening.
It was getting dark outside, and if they waited much longer, it would be nearly 12 o'clock. Mr. Gill, however, was still nowhere to be found.
It was only now that they felt that something was amiss.
Jara's expression was incredibly unpleasant as he paced back and forth in the living room. "If this old man dares to run away, I'll break his legs first if I catch him," he exclaimed angrily after a long while.
Clarissa scowled and glanced at him.
