Chapter 1052 All For Naught

Looking at the astonishment in Luca's eyes, Anderson went on to say, "Many fields in this world are out of reach for us because of our limited abilities. We can't say whether incredible phenomena like time and quantum physics can really happen, but just because we can't study them doesn't mean they don't exist."
"That is why I believe in such things. It's called eternal life if you use our words to describe it. Perhaps it's different for them. There may be a creature that lives longer than a human. That is why it appears to ordinary people like us to be immortal."
Luca was so startled that he widened his eyes.
"Who... who are the people you're talking about?"
Anderson's eyes narrowed as he stared at Luca for a long time. Then, out of nowhere, he smiled.
"I'm just giving an example. Mr. Marsh, did you take it seriously?"
Luca was stunned, but he soon regained his composure.
He smiled awkwardly, and before he knew it, his forehead was now dripping with cold sweat.
"Ah. I was too excited."
Then, he wiped the sweat off and then poured himself a cup of cold tea to drink.
When Anderson saw this, he reminded, "It's bad to drink too much cold tea. Mr. Marsh, you should take care of yourself."
With a sigh, Luca pursed his dry lips that were moistened by the tea.
"Actually, I've always had this matter on my mind, and it makes me very uneasy. During this time, I can't help but have nightmares whenever I think about it. I can't seem to stop experiencing weird dreams. So I'm hoping that if I can talk about it, it will help me to feel better."
A faint smile appeared at the corner of Anderson's mouth, but it wasn't obvious.
"Mr. Marsh, please go ahead. I'm all ears."
"Let me start with the incident from a month ago..."
Luca then explained how he got the command from Rowan to go to Jara for Jade of Heaven and his meeting with Coby on the island.
Plus, he told Anderson about Coby's unusual behavior, as well as those frightening actions.
Throughout the entire process, Anderson had only been calmly listening. He had never spoken, nor did he interrupt Luca.
His composure remained calm as if what he was hearing was nothing extraordinary but rather something common.
After Luca finished, he also noticed Anderson's reaction. Then he asked, perplexed, "Mr. Jordan, aren't you surprised? Or do you not believe a word I've said?"
Anderson pondered for a moment and gave a faint smile.
"No. I believe what you said, but I don't find it strange."
As if trying to sort his words out so that Luca could understand easier, Anderson paused for a while.
Then, he continued, "Well, I've always been curious about Coby, who looks so young. But how did he get to where he is now? He even persuaded Rowan, a cunning old guy, to take his advice."
"Of course, I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just curious as to how he can keep his existence hidden from the rest. Mr. Marsh, do you get what I'm saying?"
"I understand." Luca nodded his head.
"I've been thinking about it for a long time and have yet to come up with an answer. Mr. Marsh, you've given me the answer now; of course, I trust you."
Luca let out a slight sigh of relief after that.
Suddenly, he thought of something and gave a self-deprecating smile.
"It's ridiculous. In the past, I thought Rowan had complete control over the Marsh Family. I've always wished to be placed in a prominent position within the family and help grow the family. But now, all this seems like a joke."
As if he was attempting to shake the depression in his heart, he poured himself another cup of cold tea while he spoke.
Anderson did not doubt that he was drinking the cold tea as wine.
After drinking, Luca went on to say, "Coby can change the world's situation in a flash if he wants to. So, what am I? What about the efforts of other family members? He is a monster who has lived for a thousand years. What kind of things hasn't he experienced? He doesn't care about those honors and profits at all. I even think he is unconcerned with the family's life and deaths.
"In his eyes, we're chess pieces that can be exploited and abandoned at any time. What he wants is Jade of Heaven. He will go to any length to obtain this, no matter how much it costs him."
Gazing at him, Anderson asked, "Then have you ever thought about why he wants to get Jade of Heaven?"
Luca was stunned.
Anderson's eyes were keen in the dim light.
Then, he proceeded to question, "Why would someone who has lived for a thousand years want to obtain Jade of Heaven? What is it that he desires? Is there anything hidden in Jade of Heaven? Have you considered them?"
Upon hearing this, Luca gave a violent shudder.
Indeed, he had never explored the points highlighted by Anderson.
In his opinion, Coby's existence was already very shocking. So how would he have the time to think about all these?
Furthermore, he was released this time because Coby requested that he monitor Jara, which he declined.
Thus, Coby chased Luca out of the family in a fit of anger.
Expelling from the family meant that all of his efforts in the first half of his life had been for naught, which was a huge blow to him.
But, despite Coby's calm and easy demeanor on the surface, Luca had a nagging suspicion that he was not simple.
Even though Coby did not say anything, Luca had a vague feeling that he was planning something big.
Something that would cause serious consequences and that no one could afford.
After so many years in the family, Luca trusted his instincts completely.
As a result, he refused to heed Coby's instructions to monitor Jara, not because of how much he valued Jara as a friend, nor because of his compassion for Jara.
It was all because he sensed danger and didn't want to get entangled in it once more.
Therefore, he had never considered these since leaving the family.
