Chapter 754 Being a Dependent

"Yes, Mr. Holland."
Uncle Poick quickly responded in a respectful manner. As he could feel Jara's displeasure, his heart skipped a beat.
After giving his orders, Jara turned around. However, he did not return to his study. Instead, he took his coat and walked toward the main door.
Stunned, Uncle Poick followed him and asked, "Are you going out?"
"Yes."
Jara gave a bland response and ordered, "Get someone to prepare the car. I'm heading somewhere."
Hearing that, Uncle Poick stopped dead in his tracks once again before replying respectfully, "Alright."
......
A black Rolls-Royce drove out of the castle gate.
Meanwhile, in a guest room at the side building of the castle.
Kayla stood in front of the window. Using a pair of binoculars, she peered at the luxurious car that left. Then, she scoffed.
After that, she put down the binoculars, and her fingers unconsciously tapped twice on the windowsill. Enraged, she clenched her teeth.
Was Jara pretending to be lofty?
Moreover, it seemed like he was trying to act like a gentleman and distance himself from her.
Well, she would like to see if he could really resist her seduction till the end.
With these thoughts in mind, she turned around and walked out.
On the other hand, Millay was already waiting outside the door after receiving Kayla's instruction.
Suddenly, the door opened. Bewildered, Millay looked at Kayla and asked, "Miss Burke, why did you ask me to wait for you here?"
Looking at Millay, Kayla let out a cold chuckle.
"I need your help... to do something great."
As Kayla spoke, the depths of her eyes shone with a vicious light.
Then, she left the room in high heels while swaying her hips.
Staring at Kayla's back, Millay felt a little confused.
However, she was just a maid. To her, Jara and Kayla were both her employers.
In fact, she was not clear about what had happened between them, nor did she dare to say or ask about anything.
Therefore, she had no choice but to follow Kayla.
At the same time, on the other side.
At the prison gate.
"Inmate 95201, you are officially released from prison!"
Behind Emmeline, there was the loud sound of the iron door collided. However, she did not look back. Her hair was short and neat, while her face was pale and thin. With a smile, she stepped out of the prison gate.
Today's weather was great. The autumn breeze was fresh, and the sky was clear.
As the wind blew over the sweet-scented osmanthus tree stood by the roadside, the pure, white osmanthus fell gracefully. At that moment, even the wind was fragrant.
Under the osmanthus tree, there was a girl around 17 to 18 years old. Her tall figure was dressed in a black leather blouse and a short skirt.
While lowering her head, she was taking out a lighter to light up her cigarette.
Probably because the collision of the iron door startled her, she put down the cigarette and looked up. Then, she saw Emmeline slowly walking out of the prison gate.
"Emmeline!"
As she called out excitedly, the cigarette in her hand fell to the ground.
The next second, she ran over and threw herself into Emmeline's arms.
"Finally, you are free!"
As she was so excited, her eyes were red, and her body was trembling. Moreover, her voice was choked with sobs.
"I thought I would never be able to see you again! But now that you are back, I am so over the moon!"
This girl was Emmeline's step-sister, Keira Murray.
On the other hand, Emmeline was passively holding Keira, and she was in a trance.
In Emmeline's memory, Keira was just a young girl at the age of 14. At that time, because of her poor health and the fact that she was a picky eater, she was thin and small.
At a glance, she seemed malnourished.
However, it didn't occur to Emmeline that four years later, Keira had grown so big!
And she had turned into a tall and graceful lady!
Thinking about this, Emmeline smiled and said to Keira, "I'm fine. Don't be too excited."
Even so, Keira's body in her arms was still trembling.
After a long while, Keira managed to calm herself down, raised her head, and let go of Emmeline's body.
While wiping away her tears, she cried and laughed at the same time. "Oh no, my tears have stained your clothes... I'm fine. It's just that I haven't seen you for such a long time, and I am thrilled."
Then, she paused for a while before she continued, "Why don't you come home with me? Let's live together and never leave each other again, okay?"
After Keira finished, she looked at Emmeline expectantly.
However, Emmeline didn't agree immediately.
Instead, she slightly squinted her long and narrow eyes and turned to look at the side of the road that was not far from her.
Because the location of the prison was relatively remote, not many vehicles would pass here.
At this moment, under a row of pine trees on the side of the road, a black Rolls-Royce abruptly parked there.
The sharp and cold lines of the car's black body were outlined against the shadow of the branches. As the car was basked under the warm, golden sunlight, it reflected a dazzling light. Even so, it did not exude a warm feeling. Instead, it highlighted bursts of chill.
For a while, Emmeline looked at the car before she averted her gaze.
Once again, her eyes fell on Keira's face. Instead of agreeing to Keira, she smiled faintly.
While holding Keira's hands, she gently said to Keira, "Actually, I have a place to stay."
Upon hearing Emmeline's words, Keira was stunned.
Confused, she asked, "You just came out, and you are penniless. Besides, you don't have any friends here. Where can you live?"
Without saying anything, Emmeline smiled.
Although she seemed to be smiling all the time, she was not actually smiling from the bottom of her heart. In fact, there was a hint of coldness in her smile.
With a soft voice, she assured, "You silly. Although I have no friends, my hands and feet are fine, so as long as I want to, I can find a place to live."
It seemed that Keira wanted to persuade her, but she didn't want to hear it, so she directly cut Keira off. "Besides, Uncle Murray might not agree to let me go back. So, if I go with you, not only our life won't be better, but I might cause you trouble too. You know well that I hate to depend on others."
This time, Emmeline was being straightforward.
At the same time, Keira was unable to refute.
Because Emmeline was telling the truth.
Uncle Murray—whom Emmeline had mentioned—was her stepfather and Keira's biological father.
Since Emmeline's biological mother was remarried to the Murray Family, Mr. Murray had never liked Emmeline, who followed her mother here. From time to time, he would hit and scold Emmeline.
Back then, Emmeline was still a child, so she didn't know how to deal with it and suffered a lot.
Nonetheless, most of the time, he just merely cursed or tried to scare her.
Sometimes he would hit her a few times, but he dared not go too far in front of Mrs. Illington.
But later on, because of an accident, the Murray Family's business faced a failure. Moreover, a fire broke out in their house.
According to the neighbor, Emmeline accidentally dozed off while watching the stove, which caused the fire.
Knowing about that, Mr. Murray was purple with rage. That time, he caught her and gave her a good beating.
Fortunately, the fire was not serious, and soon it was under control, so they didn't suffer huge losses.
Thanks to that, he didn't kick Emmeline out of the house.
Even so, from then on, this incident had overshadowed Mr. Murray's heart. No matter how he looked at Emmeline, he would always felt that she was a jinx.
