Chapter 499 Be Merciful
Marissa's heart sank when she saw Evelyn.
She carefully came to Evelyn's side, for fear of waking her up.
But when she walked in, Marissa was surprised to find that Evelyn's face was abnormally ruddy.
Even her breathing was a little rapid and hot.
Marissa's heart skipped a beat. She immediately put her hand on Evelyn's forehead.
As she expected, Evelyn had a fever.
It was definitely not a mild fever, judging from her touch just now.
"Evelyn, Evelyn, wake up." Marissa hurriedly nudged Evelyn. Although there was a little anxiety in her tone, it was not too loud.
She was afraid that if she woke up Evelyn suddenly, she would be jolted awake from the nightmare.
Yes, nightmare.
At this time, tears were welling up in the corners of Evelyn's eyes, her eyebrows were furrowed, and her expression was painful. Obviously, she was bothered by something.
Marissa didn't know what had happened to her, but to her knowledge of Evelyn, Evelyn wouldn't have been in such a bad state if it hadn't been something bad happening.
It was also because of this that Marissa grew anxious.
After a while, she managed to wake Evelyn up.
Seeing Marissa in front of her, tears welled up in Evelyn's eyes again.
"Marissa..." She didn't say anything else and just reached out to hug her manager.
Only then did Marissa realize that Evelyn was sleeping naked.
Most importantly, her body was covered with traces of dubious marks.
Marissa was shocked.
"Evelyn, what's wrong with you!"
Evelyn didn't say anything, but just looked at Marissa and shook her head with tears on her face.
Marissa went silent.
Since Evelyn didn't want to say anything, it was only reasonable for her not to probe any further.
However, looking at how dejected Evelyn looked right now, Marissa only felt her anger boiling inside here.
Having known Evelyn for so many years, for Marissa, she was not only her artiste, but also a good friend of hers.
There was no way she was going to stay silent when a good friend of hers was deep in trouble.
Therefore, after much hesitation, Marissa made up her mind.
She held Evelyn in her arms, her heart aching, as she tried to suppress her anger and said. "Evelyn, tell me, who dares to do this to you?"
Evelyn's body trembled violently, as she was choked with sobs.
As soon as Marissa saw the state Evelyn was in, she couldn't help but feel anger curled hot in her gut.
She said in a sharper voice, "Evelyn, do you know how much harm it will do to you once this matter is exposed? What will the others think of you, and what will Jeffrey do to you?
Tell me what has happened, then only I can find a way to help you to deal with it. If you decide to keep me in the dark of what had happened, Evelyn, you will really be on your own."
Hearing that, Evelyn's cries paused for a while, before it gradually went silent.
She looked up at Marissa, and the confusion in her eyes gradually faded away, as she slowly regained her ability to think.
She knew that Marissa was right.
This was not a trivial matter. It was not something that she would be able to keep to herself.
Yes, she could block the news, but on the premise that Marissa was willing to help her.
Before the marks on her body faded away, Evelyn alone was not enough to be above the suspicion of the sponsor towards her absence at work.
After much deliberation, Evelyn decided to tell Marissa about the ins and outs of the matter.
But she hid the fact that she had slept with Marty once before. Anyway, he was the only man she had been with, so it didn't matter if she said it or not.
If she said it out loud, it would be troublesome.
Even if Evelyn had concealed most of the details and only told Marissa the story in general, the latter was still shocked by her decision.
"Evelyn, you are out of your mind! How... How can you..."
"How can you use your virginity to save a man who has nothing to do with you?"
Evelyn lowered her eyes, with a sad smile on her face.
She took a deep breath and made an excuse, "I just think Marty is too pitiful."
Before she could finish her words, Marissa interrupted her angrily.
"Evelyn, am I a fool to you? He's the second son of the Blaine Family. He could be with any woman he wanted, why is it gotta be you? Alas, you're pissing me off!"
Marissa furiously confronted her, but in the end, she did not have the heart to get to the bottom of the matter.
Evelyn pursed her lips and said gloomily, "Thank you."
She knew that Marissa was already showing her mercy when she said that.
With Marissa's competence, how could she not see that Evelyn had hid from her most of the details? It was so much so that her story didn't even make sense anymore.
But she did not reveal it. Not only did she not expose her, she was not angry at how Evelyn had tried to hide it from her.
Because of this, Evelyn did owe her a debt of gratitude.
Marissa also knew what Evelyn meant.
She angrily waved her hand, as if she wanted to sweep away all of the bad luck of this matter. "Go ahead, tell me how you're going to deal with all this? How are you going to delude the sponsor? How do you hide this from Jeffrey?"
Evelyn knew that she didn't have the reason to make this public, nor could she make it public either.
She would be too stupid to tell such scandalous thing to anyone.
In that case, it was very important to come up with an excuse to cover up this matter from the people around her.
Evelyn pondered for a moment and asked, "Marissa, what are you going to do about this?"
Marissa snorted, "At least you have a conscience and choose to ask me about me."
"I intend to deal with this matter in this manner," Marissa took a sip to soothe her throat and continued.
"I've already told the sponsor that you're not feeling well recently and need to rest. As for Jeffrey, you'll have to deal with him yourself."
"What should I do?" Evelyn asked.
Marissa was silent for a moment. In a serious tone, she said, "I need you to tell him that you've fallen ill recently, but it's not about your physical health, but your mental health."
"Mentally? How should I put it?" Evelyn frowned and looked at Marissa with a puzzled face. "And, why?"
Marissa smiled and said, "I need you to tell him that you've been mentally unstable. You are too tired and don't want to see anyone. The reason is very simple. You just need to tell him that you're under a lot of pressure recently. This is the only way to avoid his visits and inquiries, only then can you focus on healing the traces on your body. You will show up again once the crisis is over."
"Just like that..." Evelyn hesitated for a moment and nodded.
"Alright, I'll have to trouble you then."
Marissa glanced at her somewhat discontentedly and said, "Since when we are so courteous to each other?"
Evelyn tilted her head and thought for a while. She rubbed her nose in embarrassment. "You're right. I got confused."
After that, Evelyn wiped her tears and was ready to get up.
However, just as she got out of bed and was about to put on her clothes, she felt weak at her knees and dropped to her knees.
Marissa quickly squatted down beside Evelyn and helped her up. "What's wrong with you?"
As soon as she finished her words, she found that Evelyn's body was terribly warm.
Marissa hit her head remorsefully as she said in frustration, "I just forgot that you are still sick. Get back to sleep now. I'll pour you some water and then go to buy medicine for you."
