Chapter 833 Complicated Situation

The corpse was fished out from a river.
In fact, the course of events was simple.
Usually, many locals would make a living by fishing at the huge river at the edge of this town.
When they fished, they generally cast a net in the morning and waited till evening to close the net.
As for today, due to some matters, the net collection was delayed for two hours.
At first, the fishermen thought that the fish probably escaped after eating the bait, so they might not gain anything today.
However, when they pulled the net, they noticed that it was heavy.
At that moment, everyone was delighted as they thought that there would be a big catch today.
Even so, as they pulled the net up, they felt that something wasn't right.
Instead of fish, what came out of the water was a person's hand.
Upon seeing that, everyone was frightened. Then, one of them quickly lodged a police report. At the same time, the rest of the fishermen joined hands and pulled the net up.
Soon, the police arrived.
After the police examine the body thoroughly, they identified that the deceased was a young girl around 18 years old. The cause of her death was drowning. As everyone did not know her, she must be from another town.
When the policemen were about to take the body back for an autopsy, Emmeline saw the body.
Instantaneously, her body jerked in shock.
And the next second, she blanched.
Soon, a policeman noticed her weird expression and approached her. "Do you know her?"
For a long time, Emmeline did not respond.
Her reaction made her seemed suspicious.
Thus, the other policemen immediately surrounded her and looked at her with vigilance.
"Are you alright?"
Only then did Emmeline come to her senses.
In a daze, she raised her head and looked at them. Then, her throat rolled, and she responded, "I know her."
When the policemen heard that, their faces changed greatly.
......
Of course, Emmeline knew the deceased.
It was Maggie—the servant who was thrown out of the castle because she had found a few bottles of vodkas.
It never occurred to Emmeline that she would be dead in just three days.
What the hell was going on?
Now that things had come to this point, Emmeline followed the police back for investigation.
As she had nothing to hide, she told them everything that had happened before.
Even so, she didn't recover from the shock.
That was because she couldn't believe that a person who often appeared around her in the castle had now turned into a corpse.
According to the forensic report, Maggie had been dead for two days.
However, judging from the corpse's condition, it was in the river for no more than an hour.
In other words, she was first drowned by water and was thrown into the river after two days.
For some reason, Emmeline could feel a chill run down her spine.
Suddenly, she was reminded of the vodkas.
Before that, Maggie told everyone that she found those vodkas in the garden. However, all the evidence showed that she was lying.
Therefore, everyone presumed that she refused to admit her mistake due to her fear of being punished.
At that time, although Emmeline felt strange, she did not speak for Maggie.
Perhaps, something was really off with this matter.
Thinking of this, she frowned.
She only came to this town today, and she had an alibi for her previous whereabouts. Hence, she was free from suspicion.
After recording her confession, she was allowed to go home.
As she was alone without a car and was still in a wheelchair, the police force assigned a new police officer to send her home.
Along the way, Emmeline was silent.
At that moment, she was constantly thinking about what had happened during this period of time.
First, someone tried to assassinate her, but they failed. Then, another group of people kidnapped her by chance.
Those people wanted to catch her alive, so they did not hurt her.
Following which, she was rescued by Jara.
While she was recuperating, nothing happened around her other than Kayla finding fault with her from time to time.
Then one day, Kayla blamed Lilly for stealing the vodkas, which led her to investigate the matter. Later, they found out that the thief was Maggie.
With that, Uncle Poick took charge of the matter and drove Maggie out. Immediately after, the poisoning incident occurred.
Yunne reserved a lemon for her, but it was poisoned by arsenic. After that, Millay snatched the lemon by mistake and made iced lemon tea for Kayla, which almost killed Kayla.
Afterward, she and Jara came up with a plan to chase her out of the castle. Later on, when she came here, she found Maggie's body.
At this moment, these few seemingly irrelevant occurrences seemed to connect well and become a string of clues.
Nevertheless, something was missing.
What was actually missing?
For the whole time, Emmeline had been pondering with a frown. Suddenly, the young police officer's voice came from the front.
"I heard that she is a servant of your mansion. Do you know anything about her life and interpersonal relationships?"
Upon hearing his voice, Emmeline regained her senses.
For a moment, she was in a trance.
Actually, someone in the police station had asked her this question.
Even though she had no idea why he asked again, she answered honestly, "No. She usually doesn't work in the place I live, so I don't have much contact with her. Besides, I don't know anything except her name and some basic information."
At once, the police officer smiled.
He didn't seem to be surprised, and he had no intention to ask further.
Instead, he just quietly changed the subject.
"Just now, I saw in your file that you have a criminal record."
As soon as Emmeline heard that, her eyes dimmed.
To that, she gently nodded.
Seeing that, the young policeman smiled and scratched his head in embarrassment.
"Well, this may sound rude, but you look gentle and quiet. So, I am curious about the crime you committed. Besides, it's not written clearly..."
"Accidental killing."
Before he could finish, Emmeline answered him directly.
"What?"
The young policeman seemed to be shocked, and his jaw dropped.
When Emmeline saw that, a thought flashed through her mind, and she felt amused. With that, she raised her brows and looked at him with a smirk.
"You seem surprised. I don't think I'd do that?"
Hearing that, he shook his head and replied earnestly, "No."
"Hah!"
After letting out a sneer, Emmeline looked out of the window, saying nothing.
Throughout the rest of the journey, the car was in a pin drop silence.
From the rearview mirror, Emmeline could see a faint flash of light in the distance behind her.
She knew that it was the people sent by Jara to protect her. For the whole time, his car had been tailing her.
This matter... seemed to be getting more and more complicated.
Not long after, the car arrived in front of the old house.
After that, the young policeman got out of the car, unloaded the wheelchair from the trunk, and helped her out of the back seat.
