Chapter 920 There Is A Surprise
Jara brushed her off with a cursory, "Oh!"
Then, Anderson asked her, "Aren't you playing cards? How come you're out here? Is the card game over?"
His question reminded Clarissa why she was there, and she answered, "Oh, the game is over. We're a bit hungry and ready for some snacks. Do you want something to eat? We'll ask the kitchen to cook more if you want."
Anderson looked at Jameson and Jara for their opinions.
For some reason, Jara was sweating profusely.
While he used a towel to wipe his sweat, he answered, "I'll have a bit."
Then, Jameson also nodded, "I'll have some too."
Everyone had replied, so Clarissa said, "All right, I'll go and tell them."
Then, she turned and went inside.
However, she had hardly taken a few steps before Jara called out.
"Hey, wait a minute."
Hearing that, she turned and asked, "What's wrong?"
With a huge smile, Jara replied, "When you go inside, ask Emmeline to come out. Just say I ask."
It sounded funny to Clarissa, and she raised her eyebrows suspiciously.
There was no hint on Jara's face, so she nodded and replied, "All right."
From there, she went straight to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Emmeline was busy minding the servants preparing snacks.
The snacks were freshly baked pastries topped with fruits. The pastries were nice and warm, and the fruits were fresh off the market.
When Clarissa entered the kitchen, Emmeline asked, "What did they say? Do they want to have any?"
With a nod, Clarissa replied, "Yes, they do. We need to make more snacks."
Emmeline nodded and responded, "All right. I've got it."
Then, she turned to speak to the cook.
As she spoke with the cook, Clarissa stood by and waited for her to finish.
When she was done, Clarissa informed her, "By the way, Jara wants to meet you outside."
Emmeline looked at her in surprise and asked,
"He wants to meet me? For what?"
Grinning slyly, Clarissa replied, "Who knows?"
Then, something struck Clarissa. With a mischievous glint in her eyes, she continued,
"Perhaps there's a surprise for you. Hurry up. Don't miss the boat."
After a moment's thought, Emmeline smiled and exclaimed,
"That's unlike him. He's not a romantic chap."
Even though she said as such, she quickened her pace to walk to the garden outside.
Out of curiosity, Clarissa tagged along.
On the way, they ran into Lauren. When Lauren saw that they were in a rush, she could not help asking, "Where're you off to?"
Clarissa replied, "Join in the fun."
Join in the fun?
Instantly, Lauren jumped up from the sofa in surprise and asked,
"What fun? Let me in too!"
What was supposed to be a two-person rendezvous turned into a crowd instead.
The group of them hurried to the garden expecting Jara to be there. To their surprise, there was nobody.
Not only Jara but Anderson and Jameson were not there as well.
Clarissa was stunned and could not believe her eyes.
Filled with doubt, Emmeline asked Clarissa, "Didn't you say Jara asked to meet me? Where is he?"
Confused, Clarissa shook her head, "I don't know. There was a long corridor over at the side. Now it has disappeared."
Suddenly, a deep voice boomed across the castle.
"Emmeline, please walk twenty steps in front."
The voice stunned everyone.
They turned around and found that the voice came from the second floor.
They looked up and saw Jara standing on the balcony on the second floor looking at them. He was holding what looked like a bull horn which he used to amplify his voice.
Suddenly, an idea flashed through Clarissa's mind, and her eyes lit up.
She did not bother asking and pushed Emmeline forward. At the same time, she dragged Lauren back into the corridor.
There was no reaction from Emmeline.
Jara was standing on the balcony looking at Emmeline with a sharp gaze piercing through Emmeline's eyes.
She felt a little tug in her heart.
Then, suddenly her heart started to beat wildly.
Pressing her lips together, she did as he said, and walked twenty steps forward.
It was just an empty lawn with no people and not even a light.
Then, she realized that the garden was unusually dark.
There were street lamps all over, but none of them were lit up. It made her felt like she was in a huge realm of darkness.
Although Emmeline was familiar with the environment, she was afraid of the dark. Her heart was throbbing away, and the anticipation of something going to happen added up to her fear.
She did not have long to wait.
Jara's voice boomed again, "Let's start."
Immediately, a hum followed and the whole place lit up.
The brilliance was not from the street lamps but countless lights that flew out from the surface of the lawn.
Many of the lights brushed by her on the way up.
Emmeline was overwhelmed and looked up involuntarily. The lights were countless drones hovering in the sky to form a huge picture.
The picture was...
Her heart almost leaped out!
The multicolored lights formed into a picture depicting the time she was eight and met Jara for the first time.
Once more, Jara's voice came from above her head.
"We met when you were eight. Both of us were children then. We never thought that in the future, we would face so many trials and tribulations together."
"I remember when we first met, you had two pigtails. You were not arrogant but also not timid. You said you were Grandpa Farrington's granddaughter, and I was his disciple. So, we should become sworn siblings. I said I did not want to be sworn sibling with you."
"Then, you were upset and even cried. I looked calm but was all messed up inside. That was when I know girls cry easily."
As he reminisced about a long gone past, a smile spread across the man's face.
Beautiful memories were like fragrant wine. As the memories aged in the mind, the memories became more and more fragrant.
There was another hum, and the drones rearranged to form another picture.
