Chapter 378 Keeping A Secret For Her

"That's good then. Please keep this a secret for me. I don't want too many people to know about it."
"Okay, I understand. Don't worry! If there is any better work, I'll tell you."
"Okay, thank you."
After hanging up the phone, Evelyn sat there in a daze for a while. Then, she checked the balance in her account on her phone.
Looking at the four-digit numbers on the screen she could not help but let out a bitter smile.
In this world, probably no one would have thought that a quite famous actress like her, who had won awards had only 3000 dollars left in her bank account.
Everyone thought that being a celebrity was a glorious profession. Why was she the only miserable one?
Evelyn sighed. At this moment, her phone suddenly rang.
Looking at the caller ID, her expression suddenly changed.
She put her finger on the hang-up button, hesitated for a long time, and finally answered the call.
A hoarse male voice came from the other end of the call.
"I thought you wouldn't pick up my call. It seems that you are not so cold-hearted as before."
Evelyn walked to a quiet corner and asked in a low voice, "What are you calling for?"
"Me? Of course, it's because I miss you, so I called to see if everything is okay."
Evelyn said angrily, "I've told you long ago that I have nothing to do with you! I'm not your daughter anymore. My surname is Hussain, and yours is Canyon. We're not related by blood!"
The other party smiled faintly.
"Really? In any case, I've been raising you for ten years. There are a lot of witnesses who could prove that you are my daughter. Now that you're rich, you should try and save your destitute father, shouldn't you?"
Evelyn was so angry that her eyes turned red.
"Didn't I give you money three months ago? Did you gamble again?"
The person on the other end of the line sounded a little guilty.
"Not really. It's just... I was just trying my luck. Who would have thought that I would have such a bad luck?"
"I don't have any money!"
Without thinking, Evelyn roared directly, "I told you not to gamble, but you didn't listen to me. Every time you lose money, you come to me. Do you really think I'm a bottomless pit? I don't have a single cent on me right now. Even if I have one, I won't give it to you. That's it, I'm hanging up now!"
After she finished her words, she directly hung up the phone.
After that, he made a few more calls, but Evelyn didn't answer.
Evelyn was so angry that she blocked his number right away.
Beside her, Gelen walked over.
"Evelyn, what's wrong? Why do you look so pale?"
Evelyn quickly regained her composure and forced a smile. "It's nothing."
"Oh, that's good. By the way, I want to ask you for a leave tomorrow. Tomorrow is my mother's birthday, I want to go back and accompany her for a day, is that okay?"
Confused, Evelyn nodded quickly. "Yes, it's not a big deal. You can go home directly tomorrow."
Gelen smiled gratefully and nodded. "Thank you, Evelyn."
After finishing work in the evening, Evelyn dragged her tired body back to the hotel.
As soon as she got off the car, a hand covered her mouth and dragged her to the corner.
She struggled desperately, but the person was much stronger than her. She could only let him drag her to the corner.
As soon as he released his hand, Evelyn wanted to shout. However, she heard a familiar voice. "It's me."
Evelyn was stunned.
The lights in the parking lot were not too bright, let alone in the corner. However, when Evelyn turned around, she could see the man's appearance clearly.
"Dad! Why are you here?"
She cried in surprise, and then suddenly she thought of something and her expression changed.
"I've said that I've cut all ties with you. Don't come looking for me!"
As she was about to leave, she was stopped by him.
The man sneered. "You just called me dad, and now you're turning your back on me in the blink of an eye?"
As he spoke, he looked left and right and said in a low voice, "It's not convenient to talk here. Let's go up and talk about it."
After that, he dragged her into the elevator quickly.
On the way back to the room, Evelyn drew all the curtains and was relieved after making sure that no paparazzi would be able to take photos of them.
Turning around, she looked coldly at the middle-aged man who looked scruffy in front of her and said, "What are you looking for me for?"
The middle-aged man's surname was Canyon. He was the fourth son in the family who was named Forbos.
He was the stepfather and adopted father of Evelyn.
Forbos sat down on the sofa and said, "What else can I do? The creditors have been pushing me hard lately. So I need some money from you."
"I don't have any!"
As soon as she mentioned this, Evelyn's expression changed and she said in a harsh voice, "Get out now. I don't want to see you anymore!"
However, Forbos had been a rogue. Over the years, he was used to being scolded, so he did not care. He smiled evilly and said, "Yes, I can go. I'm afraid that after I get out of here today, your dark past will be on the No.1 trending topic tomorrow. If you don't believe me, we can make a bet!"
"How dare you!"
Evelyn was extremely angry and her face was green then pale. She couldn't say a word.
Upon seeing the situation, Forbos laughed even more proudly and said, "Anyway, if it weren't for the fact that I had taken you and your mother in, you wouldn't be who you are today.  What's the matter? Now you've become famous and you are able to stand on your own two feet, are you trying to get rid of me and enjoy your life by yourself? Aren't you too conscienceless?"
"Conscienceless?"
Evelyn was so angry that even the tip of her fingers was trembling. "Who was the one who helped you to pay for your gambling debts for the past few years? When you took drugs, assaulted people and was arrested, who was one who bailed you out? If it weren't for me, you would have been torn into pieces by those enemies now!"
"Yes, you are right! It's all thanks to you."
Forbos was at the end of his tether and nodded, "So I can only come to your place now. They hold guns. Do you know? Guns! They said they will put a bullet in my head if I don't pay them back the money. What can I do?"
Evelyn didn't know what to do with him. She sat down on the sofa and said angrily, "How much money do you owe me again?"
"Not much, three million."
"What?"
She suddenly screamed, "Three million? Do you think I am a bank?"
Forbos lifted his eyelids and gave her a sidelong glance. He sneered and said, "Keep pretending. Who doesn't know that you are a popular star in the entertainment circle now? I'm sure that you're getting paid tens of millions of dollars for each series you were starred in. It shouldn't be a problem for you to give me a few million to spend?"
"The money doesn't belong to me alone!"
Evelyn was so angry that her face turned pale. She said in a harsh voice, "After I get my pay, it will be divided among the company and my manager. How much money do you think that is left for me? I don't earn much from the hard work I've been doing, and it is certainly not enough to pay off your debt."
Upon hearing that, Forbos became a little impatient, as his eyes turned cold.
"You really don't have? anything left"
Evelyn said without thinking, "No!"
"Fine!"
Forbos suddenly stood up and said cheekily, "In that case, I have no choice but to look for someone else. I heard that you recently have been close to a guy from a rich and powerful family whose surname is Thomas, right? Is he in love with you? Since I can't count on you, I can only count on my son-in-law."
