Chapter 403 The Hampden Family

Clarissa instantly lost interest to know more. She felt a little numb now.
She said softly, "I'll think about it carefully. It's getting late. Old Master Levine, you're not in good health, so you'd better go to bed early."
Old Master Levine nodded his head.
Only then did Clarissa leave with Anderson and the rest.
It was a peaceful conversation.
In addition to a few distant relatives of the Levine family who were shocked, the few people who were directly involved in the matter were all surprisingly calm.
Naturally, Old Master Jordan and Old Madam Jordan had returned to their mansion. They were just a middleman in this matter. Regardless of whether Clarissa would acknowledge her identity as a member of the Levine family in the end, it didn't matter to them.
Anyway, in their eyes, Clarissa was already the best granddaughter-in-law that could ever have.
Her background didn't matter.
Clarissa, on the other hand, followed Anderson back to the Starbay Villa.
When she was in the car, she did not speak throughout the whole journey. She looked out of the window with no expression on her face. No one could tell whether she was happy or angry.
Anderson stretched out his hand and held her hand that was slightly cold in the autumn night. He asked, "Do you have anything to ask me?"
Clarissa looked away.
She turned to look at him. Her eyes were surprisingly calm.
"Actually, you already knew about it, didn't you?"
Anderson raised his eyebrows.
There was a flash of surprise in his eyes.
However, he didn't hide it from her and honestly replied, "I had a premonition before, but nothing was confirmed yet. So I could only say that I wasn't not sure."
"Do you really believe that I am Vivian's daughter?"
Anderson didn't say anything.
His gaze was so deep as if it could see through one's soul.
After a long time, he said in a soft voice, "Do you know why Vivian died?"
Clarissa shook her head.
She didn't know much about the Levine family.
Especially Vivian.
Anderson said in a deep voice, "Vivian died of depression due to entanglement. She spent so many years trying to fight it. In the end, she committed suicide."
Clarissa was shocked!
"But didn't the outside world say that she died of illness?"
"That was just a white lie."
Anderson sighed. He gently caressed her hand and said softly, "At that time, Vivian was seriously ill. Depression was torture to her. People only knew that she was sick, but they didn't know what kind of illness she had.
"On one occasion, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, everyone in the Levine family went out to the lantern festival, leaving Aunt Vivian and the servants at home. That night, Vivian couldn't stand the pain and torture anymore and committed suicide by cutting her wrist.  The whole bathtub was filled with blood when they found her. She had stopped breathing and couldn't be saved anymore."
Clarissa sat there in a daze, unable to imagine the scene at that time.
How much pain would a person have to suffer in order to have the courage to cut her wrist and commit suicide?
Clarissa pursed her lips and felt like there was a heavyweight in her chest, suffocating her.
After a while, she hissed and asked, "Why? Why did she suffer from depression?"
"There were a few reasons."
Anderson took a glance at her and said in a deep voice, "Back then, she fell in love with a man. Afterwards, due to many reasons, the two were forced apart. Later, that person died in an accident."
Clarissa shuddered.
Anderson's eyes became deep. "At that time, Vivian lost the will to live until she accidentally found out that she was pregnant.
Later, we also knew that the child went missing when she was half a year old, and  Vivian couldn't take such a blow so she suffered depression.
In order to cure her depression, the Levine family adopted Gabriela from an orphanage, but the effect was minimal.
After a few years, she still chose to leave."
Clarissa clenched her fingers and asked, "Who is that man? Why were they forced to separate from each other?"
Anderson shook his head.
"I don't know. At that time, I was still very young. I only found out what had happened to Vivian when I overheard the adults' conversation. The other party's identity was very mysterious. They were all very secretive and didn't mention much about it. But then I accidentally saw a badge left by Vivian. So I could roughly guess the identity of the man."
Clarissa was stunned.
"Where did he come from?"
"The Hampden family."
Clarissa shuddered!
She looked at Anderson, her eyes slightly opening. She was so shocked that she even opened her mouth a little.
Her pupils dilated as she looked at Anderson. She was so shocked that her jaw dropped.
Clarissa fell silent.
Did she really want to know?
Of course, she did.
After all, if she was really Vivian's daughter, that person might be her biological father!
But...
Perhaps this news had come too suddenly, so she really couldn't digest it over such a short period of time.  She couldn't accept the fact that her parents were someone else.
She was silent for a moment, and then wearily rubbed the space between her eyebrows.
"Forget it, let's not investigate it for the time being. I need some time to think about it"
Seeing this, Anderson stretched out his hand to hold her hand.
"Don't think too much. No matter what the truth is, it's just a matter between the people of the older generation. It won't change anything now. Besides,  I'll always be with you."
Clarissa raised the corner of her mouth and gave him a reassuring smile.
After going home, Clarissa was a little tired. She should have fallen asleep soon, but for some unknown reason, her mind was in such a mess that she could not fall asleep.
She couldn't stop thinking about Old Master Levine's words in her mind, turning her mind into a mess.
Anderson noticed something was off with her so she hugged her from behind. He asked in a low voice, "Are you still thinking about what's going on with the Levine family?"
Clarissa didn't deny it and nodded her head.
Anderson sat up from the bed.
He got out of bed, poured a cup of warm water, handed it to her, and then held her in his arms again.
"We'll talk for a while, huh?"
Clarissa nodded.
In fact, she didn't have much to say.  It was just that her thoughts were too messy and she couldn't fall asleep. If she told it to Anderson, Anderson might help her clear her mind. That way, she might be able to sleep more soundly.
Thus, Clarissa told him some of the uneasiness and doubts in her heart.
Throughout the entire process, Anderson only listened to her quietly. He did not interrupt her.
Clarissa felt more relieved after talking to him.
She looked up at him and smiled embarrassedly. "Am I thinking too much?"
Anderson shook his head.
"It's normal for you to think that way."
He paused for a moment and then said in a deep voice, "The reason why Old Master Levine refused to tell you the truth is maybe he thought the situation in the Hampden family is too complicated. Therefore, he didn't want you to get involved in it."
