Chapter 445 The Auction Of The Old Mansion

As soon as the host finished his words, the crowd began to stir.
The host showed a satisfied expression and continued to say, "Before the auction begins, we'll have Young Master Tory to say a few words to us."
The light suddenly dimmed, and then, when it was turned on again, there was already one more person on the stage.
Tory Irving was dressed in black suit. He was so eye-catching under the spotlight. His handsome and gentle features hid his usual sharpness. He was looking even more gracious and elegant. The moment he appeared, it caused the female guests to scream in low voices.
Even Lauren had to admit that he was a charming man.
Tory's mellow voice came through the sound system and echoed in the large auction hall.
"First of all, thank you for coming to today's charity auction. I can see your enthusiasm to take part in the charity. To be honest, I'm just using Jeromia's property to give to charity, so I'm really ashamed to be flattered by you."
"Everyone knows that the old mansion is a property belonging to my late grandpa. Many people may not understand why I do this and feel that it is disrespectful to auction off the family's ancestral property. But I want to say that real heritage has nothing to do with material things.  Instead, it's all about how we remember the teachings of our ancestors, especially kindness, modesty, politeness, and how we shall help others when we have the means!"
"You might not know that that I was a child with autism a long time ago. At that time, I lived in an orphanage near Flaucford. Every day, I lost hope of living because life was boring and meaningless at that time. Until Jeromia came to visit the orphanage and adopted me, I finally was able to catch a glimpse of hope in my life."
He paused for a moment, as if he was reminiscing about the past, and his voice was a little low.
After a moment, he continued, "So, I hope that when I have the ability, I can help others, help the children with autism-like me in the past, and let them know that some people are concerned about them and watching over them. At the same time, I also understand that regardless of one's family background, as long as you work hard enough, you could succeed in life too!"
After he finished speaking, a burst of applause from the audience could be heard.
All the guests in the auction hall seemed to be greatly moved by his words.
Lauren sat in a corner and reached out her hand to touch her face, which was already wet.
She smiled sarcastically and reached out her hand to wipe away the tears on her face.
"Thank you, Young Master Tory, for your words. As the saying goes, a single conversation across the table with a wise man is better than ten years of mere study of books!"
The host came to the stage in time and then said loudly, "So now, let's start the auction. This old house is located at the foot of Mount Solstice. The scenery nearby is still beautiful and can be used for holiday and leisure. The starting price is 5 million dollars. It will increase by 50 thousands dollars with each bid. The auction begins!"
As soon as he finished speaking, someone began to bid.
"5.2 million!"
"5.3 million!"
"5.5 million!"
"5.6 million!"
"5.65 million!"
Obviously, everyone knew that this old mansion had no commercial value, so the bids were very low.
Suddenly, a cold female voice came from the corner.
" 6 million!"
None of them noticed that there was a person sitting in the corner of the back row. They couldn't help but turn to look. However, the lights were dim, and they could only see a shadowy figure. Her figure was slender, and judging from her voice, she should still be very young.
Someone immediately raised the price and said, "6.2 million!"
"Seven million!" The person in the corner was decisive and straightforward.
"7.2 million!"
Lauren continued shouting, "8 million!"
At this moment, a young woman sitting in the front row suddenly started to ring the bidding device.
"10 million!"
Lauren stood up with a shout, and her eyes narrowed.
The hall was very dark, but from her point of view, she could still see the beautiful side profile of the woman covered by her wavy hair. Her upturned lips showed that she was confident. Although she was sitting in the crowd, she stood out among the rest. She couldn't hide her noble temperament.
Uri Holland?
The heiress of the Holland Group!
Lauren pursed her lips and pressed the bidding device.
"10.5 million!"
The crowd was stirred. Obviously, this price had exceeded the value of the old house itself!
Uri turned her head and looked in Lauren's direction.
Following which, she followed closely. "10.7 million!"
Lauren clenched her fist!
Alex gave her a total of 8.6 million dollars, plus the two million dollars given by Clarissa. Now she only had 10.9 million dollars in total!
As the daughter of the Holland family, Uri was filthy rich. How could they compete with each other?
Frowning slightly, Lauren beckoned a waiter over and borrowed a pen and paper from him.
Lauren wrote a sentence on the paper and asked him to pass it to Uri.
The hall was very silent, waiting to see if there was anyone who wanted to continue bidding. In fact, it was unlikely that any one would bid it at a higher price at this point in time!
The host also realized this situation and said, "10.7 million once, 10.7 million twice..."
"Wait a minute!"
Lauren suddenly opened her mouth and gritted her teeth. "10.9 million!"
Everyone in the hall immediately turned to look at her.
However, she stared at Uri, who was holding the paper, in the front row.
Uri raised the corner of her mouth and gave her a friendly smile. Then, she turned around and stopped bidding.
"10.9 million once, 10.9 million twice, one 10.9 million thrice. It's a deal!"
Lauren finally let out a sigh of relief!
After the auction ended, it was time for a dinner party. Lauren had gotten what she wanted, so she no longer had the mood to stay here. Thus, she stood up and prepared to leave.
However, she saw Uri walking toward her.
Lauren slightly narrowed her eyes and quietly watched Uri walk up to her and reach out her hand.
"Congratulations! You win."
Uri was 25 years old this year. As an A-lister among her generation in the entertainment circle, they had a good relationship. It was just that they had little chance to interact with each other.
Uri reached out and shook hands with her gently. Lauren said sincerely, "Thank you for what you've done just now."
Uri smiled slightly and said, "You don't have to thank me. My family is doing business, so I am also a businessman in essence. The price just now has already exceeded the commercial value of this old house. So even if you don't write that note, I won't bid any more!"
Lauren didn't know whether she was telling the truth or not, but she still nodded.
"I've long heard that Miss Holland is smart at doing business. You really live up to your reputation."
The two of them exchanged friendly small talk. Just then, she saw Tory walk over to Uri and stop beside her.
When he saw Lauren, there was a flash of surprise in his eyes.
He had to admit that Lauren's beauty was completely different from Uri's.
Uri was elegant and graceful, and one could tell from her demeanor that she was a lady coming from a respectable family. At first glance, one could tell that she was born noble.
However, Lauren was totally different. She was a pure and cold kind of beauty, like a blooming lotus in the dark night. Her eyes were deep, making her look calmer and more mysterious, which easily aroused men's desire to know more about her.
"Uri, who is this?"
Uri smiled and said, "This is Miss Jones."
"Miss Jones?" Tory seemed to recall something in his mind, and then he smiled and said, "It's you! Hello, my name is Tory."
