Chapter 487 You're My Uncle

Clarissa looked at him suspiciously. "Really?"
"Yes, it's true. I swear by myself."
"Well, I believe in you."
Anderson accompanied her for a while and fed her the liquid diet according to the doctor's advice. In the afternoon, a nurse came over to help her with breastfeeding.
Naturally, it was yet another round of torture for Clarissa.
Fortunately, the nurse hired by the Jordan family was all experienced. They had done it within a few minutes, so Clarissa had endured less pain in the process.
After the nurse left, Old Madam Jordan came over with Gimmy and the others.
She also brought over some chicken soup that she went home to make.
Clarissa had been hungry for a long time. Since she had just finished the operation, she couldn't eat too much food. As soon as she smelled the soup, she couldn't help but drool.
However, as soon as she drank it, her facial expression suddenly changed.
She glanced at Old Madam Jordan and asked awkwardly, "Grandma, this soup... Have you forgotten to add salt in it?"
Old Madam Jordan could not help but laugh at her question. She said, "You must control your salt intake since you have just given birth, so I told them not to put too much salt. Just endure it for another month. You can eat whatever you want next month."
Clarissa's face turned bitter all of a sudden.
However, at the thought of the child, she still pinched her nose and took a few more sips.
During her postpartum confinement, Anderson had been guarding by her side.
Gimmy was originally worried about her giving birth in advance, but when he came over and saw that the Jordan family had taken good care of her, he was relieved.
Clarissa did not go to the postpartum confinement center. Instead, they had hired professional nurses to look after her at home.
There were nurses, one of which was looking after her, and the other was babysitting the baby.
The villa suddenly became lively.
Old Madam Jordan had come to visit them frequently. One could tell that she doted on her great-grandson very much.
She just wished she could move over and live with them.
However, it was impossible for Anderson who was strict to agree to it.
After all, the nurses and servants were enough to make him feel that he couldn't not spend enough time with Clarissa alone. Wouldn't it be worse when Old Madam Jordan was here too?
Old Madam Jordan was so angry when she saw that he had rejected her without even thinking about it. She scolded him for being so heartless.
Soon, it was the baby's first month old's birthday.
The Jordan Family threw a grand baby shower.
Old Master Jordan had picked a few names, but Anderson couldn't make up his mind.
In the end, Old Master Jordan named the baby Marf.
Although the Jordan Family was now at the peak of the power, they did not gain their power and wealth out of thin air. Marf was destined to be showered with love and attention by many.
Everything in the world would be subject to natural selection. No one can stay on the top forever. Only through constant efforts, one could only maintain his position at the top of the food chain.
On the day of the baby shower, almost all the influential and powerful figures of Flaucford had come.
Clarissa hadn't completely recovered yet, so she stayed in the room with Old Madam Jordan.
The guests were all taken care of by Anderson and Old Master Jordan whereas the womenfolk were entertained by Old Madam Jordan.
After all, the buzzing scene at the party was within Old Madam Jordan's expectation.
There was only one person who she didn't expect he would come.
When Harrison walked in, everyone in the room was stunned.
Old Madam Jordan was the first to react.
After all, he was Clarissa's relative. Although Clarissa didn't want to admit it, the fact that they were related by blood remained unchanged. Besides, it was a happy event to celebrate life, so they couldn't give him the cold shoulder.
Therefore, she smiled and said, "Harrison, you're here."
"Hello, Old Madam Jordan."
Harrison greeted Old Madam Jordan and then smiled at Clarissa, "I have got the news of you giving birth to a baby earlier on. It's just that I've been busy with matters all this while and couldn't come over in time. Fortunately, I have made it to the baby shower. This is just a little token of my appreciation. I hope you don't mind."
As he spoke, he got someone to hand him a silk brocade box.
When she opened the box, she saw a gorgeous gold longevity lock.
It looked quite heavy.
"The baby can't wear this now, so we'll keep it first!"
Old Madam Jordan said with a smile.
Harrison nodded his head.
Clarissa thought about how he wanted to give her jade disk last time so she felt grateful to him. She smiled and said, "Grandma, I want to say a few words to Mr. Hampden."
Old Madam Jordan nodded and asked someone to help her out.
Clarissa sat on a chair while holding the baby in her arms without looking at him.
"You're not here just to attend the baby shower, are you?"
"Yes."
Harrison didn't try to hide anything.
In his opinion, Clarissa was a smart person. Therefore, he rather to speak overtly as it would make him look bad if he beat around the bush.
Clarissa raised her head and looked him straight in the eye.
She held her hand out and motioned for him to sit down.
"Sit down first."
Harrison then went to sit on a chair next to him. After Clarissa had asked someone to serve tea, she said, "You came here today for the baby?"
"Yes, that's right."
Harrison admitted it again.
He paused and said, "Clarissa, I know that there are many misunderstandings between you and the Hampden family. I am not the party involved, so I can't do anything to clear up the misunderstanding, nor can I untie the knot in your heart."
"But you are a descendant of the Hampden family. This is a fact that couldn't be altered. Even when your blood is dry and your flesh is gone, even if there are only bones left, you are still a member of the Hampden family."
"I don't ask you to do anything else. I can understand if you don't want to return to the family and take over the Sapphire family. But you can't decide on the child's future."
Clarissa turned to look at him.
Harrison's eyes were calm.
She suddenly smiled.
She lowered her gaze slightly as if she was thinking about something. After which, she murmured softly, "You are my uncle in order of seniority, right?"
A trace of emotion flashed through Harrison's eyes as he nodded.
"Yes."
"Okay, then I'll regard you as my uncle."
Clarissa's voice was gentle and faint, not cold, but it was definitely not very enthusiastic.
"I just can't wrap my mind around one thing. No one in this world would close the door to power and wealth. Why don't you accept it even though it's already in your hands? Do you really have to give it to me in order to make yourself feel at ease?"
Without waiting for Harrison to speak, Clarissa added, "Don't tell me it's because of the kinship between us. I don't buy that. You claimed that we are related by blood yet you have never appeared in my eighteen years of life, nor have you given me any warmth. I don't believe that you have tried your best in looking for me."
In my opinion, my biological mother is no more important than my mother who had raised me. My mom is the one who pays for all my living expenses. The education I have received, the knowledge I have learned, and the principle of my conduct is also taught by her."
Therefore, now that I have grown up, I'm not obligated to fulfill any responsibilities as a member of the Hampden family to which my biological father had failed to do so. So does my child. "
Harrison looked at her calm and determined expression and felt a complex feeling welled up in his heart for a moment.
