Chapter 1060 A Thousand Years Ago
"Because..."
Coby paused and turned to face her. "Because I'm not from the same era as you. I was born a thousand years ago."
If someone else said this, Clarissa would have assumed the other person was making fun of her.
However, she couldn't help but believe a little when she saw Coby's solemn countenance.
"A thousand years ago?"
Clarissa's heart began to palpitate when she heard these words, and her face became even more ghastly.
"What do you mean? You mean you are from ancient times? How can you still be alive? And you appear to be no more than 30 years old at most..."
Coby smiled, and it was a little bit bleak.
"Yes, my looks will always stay in the age of thirty, but I have actually lived for more than a thousand years. Everyone calls me a modest gentleman. In fact, only I know that I am a monster who will not die of old age, though I should've died long ago."
There were a few traces of gloominess in his tone when he stated the last sentence.
Clarissa was taken aback when she learned of this. "I still don't entirely get what you mean," she said, forcing herself to calm down.
Coby glanced at her.
"It's normal that you don't understand. You're the third person who's heard about this. The first two of them refused to believe it when they first knew it."
With a mocking laugh, he added, "It doesn't matter. You will believe it sooner or later because it is the truth."
As he said that, he raised his cup and took a drink of tea with his antique etiquette.
At this point, Clarissa didn't have time to consider whether he would poison her or not.
Due to the shock, her throat was dry as if it was on fire.
Hence, she also took a sip of the tea.
After drinking, she questioned, "What do you mean by what you said earlier? Why would I save you? And you said that someone erased my memory. What's up?"
Coby smiled faintly.
"Don't worry. Since I've promised you, I will tell you everything slowly. So..."
Next, Coby patiently told Clarissa what had happened ten years ago.
Only then did Clarissa realize that Coby was indeed an old monster who had lived for a thousand years.
A thousand years ago, in the region that is now Blink City, an ancient dynasty known as the Roth Dynasty reigned.
The Roth Dynasty's people respected the Empress and two High-Priests.
The Empress served as a dynasty's totem. It served as a symbol of the sovereign's power. She did not, however, have any authority in her hands.
As for the two High-Priests, they would be recommended by all of the court's ministers.
Later on, as the era progressed, the two High-Priests were reduced to only one.
However, the overall situation did not change. Every Empress seemed to be in cahoots with the High-Priest and managed the entire nation in perfect order.
Until the last Empress, she was fed up with the humiliation of losing imperial power and did not want to continue in this manner. As a result, she devised a scheme to capture Coby, the High-Priest at the time.
To achieve the goal, she did not hesitate to risk her life to make the imperial family stand up.
However, the life-and-death battle had failed.
Because the High-Priest, Coby, had inadvertently gotten a treasure at the moment.
Before he took office, he led his troops to fight everywhere for the sake of his military merits. Once, he arrived at a desert.
In fact, there were not many tribes there, and they had long driven the few remaining ones away.
In fact, they had no intention of going so far into the desert. The army got lost in the middle due to a strong sandstorm at the time, and they only got there by luck.
In that place, he saw a piece of God's Stone.
A Divine Lady walked out from within the stone.
Her face was delicate and pretty, and her figure was slim. Hence, she drew his attention right away.
The Divine Lady gave him a thoughtful glance before cautiously approaching him. He was tempted, and he couldn't stand the thought of leaving this vulnerable woman alone in this vast desert. So, he convinced everyone to take her to the road.
On the way, he noticed that, despite her appearance, she seemed to have emerged from a primeval forest.
She not only lacked etiquette, but she also had no idea how to dress or eat.
Let alone talk.
Fortunately, she was very clever. Whatever it was, she could learn it quickly.
Most importantly, she seemed to be very familiar with the desert. Before long, she took them out of the desert.
This lady piqued Coby's interest. After returning to Flaucford, he kept her in the house.
He was still a young man and had not yet achieved the position of High-Priest. As a result, he had no intention of marrying.
Thus, at that time, even though the lady had no status in the house, she was treated as if she were a hostess.
Later, he was promoted to High-Priest due to his military achievements. Even though he was occupied with court matters every day, he could still look after her at home.
The two of them used to have a good time together.
During that period, the two of them fished and watched the blossoms together. They were, without a doubt, happy.
However, good things did not last long. The Empress's plot came to his ears like a thunderbolt.
Coby swiftly regained his composure and immediately sent people to capture the Empress' younger sister.
As this was confidential, he was reluctant to entrust it to someone else's supervision. As a result, he handed it to the woman he trusted the most.
But he had not anticipated that it would be this move that ultimately led to their different opinions.
In the afternoon, he wanted to wander around after his meal. He did, however, unintentionally walk up to the door of the room where the Empress's sister was being kept, silently opening the door and peering inside.
Surprisingly, he spotted the face of another person on the face of the woman he knew well.
Once she turned around, she switched back to her original appearance.
This was, without a doubt, a huge shock to the public at the time.
He initially mistook her for a monster, but later, he discovered that she was not.
She challenged everyone's belief at the time, insisting that the land itself was a circle. Besides, she introduced herself as a person from an outer space planet.
Everyone on that planet possessed a piece of energy stone.
The person would not die as long as the energy stone remained. It could keep one's physical body young and active forever. If the person ever wished to die, all one had to do was remove the energy stone from the body.
