Chapter 835 Not a Misunderstanding
From the beginning to the end, she was just their pawn.
A pawn for dealing with Jara, the original Salvation Club, and the entire underground organization.
When she thought of this, her eyes turned cold.
As if Skylar did not sense her emotions, he said smilingly, "You don't seem to welcome me. Did I offend you or something?"
Emmeline sneered.
"Well, what do you think?"
Hearing that, Skylar raised his eyebrows.
Actually, except for his evil aura, he could charm a large number of women just by his gentle-looking face.
But of course, Emmeline was not like the other women.
With a faint smile, he uttered, "It seems that you are blaming me for all the things that happened to you, but you know what? After knowing that you are out of prison, I eagerly come to meet you. So, you shouldn't think of me this way."
At the sight of his calm face, Emmeline could feel her blood boiling.
With her eyes slightly lowered, she glanced backward from the corner of her eye and asked, "Be frank. Why are you here?"
Upon hearing Emmeline's words, Skylar chuckled, "You really should believe me. I am here to catch up with you."
"I don't think there's anything to catch up between us," Emmeline replied expressionlessly.
For a second, Skylar paused.
After a moment, he scoffed, "I can understand how you are feeling right now. You might think that we deceived you, but have you thought about it carefully? Apart from not telling you our true identities, we didn't hurt you in any other way."
He paused, and his eyes became darker. "Even though we used you in the last battle, we didn't take your life. In fact, we would usually end a pawn's life after we have fully made use of it."
Although his tone was flat, Emmeline could hear a trace of spookiness from his tone.
Then, her eyes turned cold, and she questioned in a low voice, "What do you want then?"
With a smirk, Skylar looked at her.
"Follow me."
Without waiting for her to reply, he added, "I know that Jara's men are following you. Perhaps by now, they are already lying in ambush outside, waiting to catch me. However, since I come here knowing that it's dangerous, I will definitely have something up my sleeve. So, you should quietly follow me, and I promise that I won't hurt you. Okay?"
After hearing that, Emmeline looked at him coldly. Her expression seemed calm, but her heart was surging with strong waves.
Basically, she knew Skylar very well. In the past, when he was in the Salvation Club, he was the backbone of everyone.
Not only was he great at martial arts, but he was a cunning strategist.
Therefore, she knew that regardless of scheming and martial arts, she was no match for him.
Most importantly, there was one more thing.
All this while, the people sent by Jara to protect her had clearly been guarding around here. When she was about to go to bed last night, she could still feel their presence.
However, now, she couldn't feel anything.
It was as if those people had vanished into thin air.
Thinking about that, she was a bundle of nerves, and she dared not imagine what was going on outside. All she could do was to be patient and stall for some time.
"Were you the one who fished the corpse out of the river yesterday?"
"Nope," he replied nonchalantly. It was unknown whether Skylar was aware of her purpose in asking this.
Hearing that, Emmeline frowned.
Skylar gave a faint smile.
"Though she deserved to die, someone took care of her before I could. Well, that was good in some way. I didn't have to waste my time and dirty my hands."
"Is she working with you?" Emmeline asked coldly.
To that, Skylar smirked.
"Sort of. She was poor, so it was easy to make her do something for me. All I need was to say a few good words to her. However, before she could barely accomplish anything, they kicked her out of the house. What a good-for-nothing. If I were to choose again, I would rather not pick her again."
The moment Emmeline listened to his words, she was pissed off.
Enraged, she gritted her teeth. "Don't you have any sympathy? She died for you."
"Sympathy?"
As if he had heard something surprising, he raised his eyebrows and let out a soft laugh.
"Emmeline, you've really changed a lot in these four years. I can't believe a woman like you who used to be expressive, bold, and cruel is telling me about sympathy."
After a short pause, he pursed his thin lips into a straight line, and his gaze instantly became sharp.
"Don't you know that sympathy is the least necessary thing for us to have in this field?"
Emmeline's body shook in shock!
The moment she met Skylar's cold eyes, she realized that he was no longer the senior she once knew anymore.
She moved her wheelchair a step back and shook her head. "I am not leaving with you. As you said, I'm not alone this time. So, you'd better surrender. Otherwise, I won't be kind to you."
Despite being threatened, Skylar wasn't anxious.
Instead, he just looked at her, feeling amused.
At that moment, Emmeline's heart missed a beat.
Right away, she pressed down the button on the wheelchair's armrest. However, she could hear nothing but silence outside.
Oh no!
The button on the armrest was an emergency communication device Jara had specially set up for her before she left.
It was set up so that she could easily send him a message when she was in danger. Once he received it, he would then immediately rushed in with his men.
But now, she had pressed several times.
And yet, there was no sound outside.
What... what the hell was going on?
Noticing the change in her expression, Skylar raised his head and guffawed.
"Oh dear, Emmeline. After four years, you're still so naive. Do you really think that Jara will set aside his affairs and sacrifice the Lost Vanguard just to come to your rescue?"
When Emmeline heard that, her pupils quivered.
With that, she looked at him in disbelief.
"What did you do to him?"
Skylar shook his head.
"Nothing much. I just asked some of my men to cause some trouble in his territory. Believe me, it's not that serious, and he would be unharmed. Besides, he will only lose a few of his territories and some irrelevant subordinates."
"Even so, judging from the current situation, he would rather give up on you to save those unimportant subordinates. Can't you see that he doesn't deserve you?"
As he spoke, he stood up and walked toward her.
