Chapter 504 Social Climbing
Wes was both happy and helpless about the fact that his niece had fallen in love with someone.
He was happy to see that his niece was all grown-up now but he felt helpless because that person was Marty.
Although the Tuscan family and the Olsen family could be regarded as rich and influential families in Flaucford, there was still a disparity between them and the four great families.
Wes didn't like the idea of Melodie being a social climber. For someone as powerful as Marty, it was out of her reach.
However, since Melodie had her eyes on Marty, he couldn't do anything about it either.
But young girls like her would most probably act irrational when they fell deep in love. When they grew up in a few years, they would not be so impulsive anymore.
Therefore, Wes didn't pay too much attention to what had happened between her and Marty.
When he heard the news from Melodie today, he even teased her with a smile. "Hey, you finally stopped being so obsessed with your boyfriend anymore and thought of me?"
Some time ago, Wes had been busy with the preparation for the series "Pieces of Mountain and River", so much so that he did not participate in the grand industry party.
The news about the conflict between Marty and Melodie was suppressed by Marty using all kinds of means the next day.
The most important thing was that no one dared to offend Wes by telling him about it, so he knew nothing about it.
And at this very moment, when Wes's friend saw how happy he was, he could only smile and say a few words of agreement, "Mm, that's great."
He wasn't very close with Wes, so he didn't dare to tell Wes about such a serious matter.
Wes was well-known for his hot-tempered and his over-protectiveness over his men in show business.
What if he was in a bad mood and used him as a punching bag? He didn't want to bring any trouble upon himself.
Wes hadn't seen his little niece who he doted on for a long time, so he was in a good mood and hadn't noticed his friend's hesitation to speak.
It was also for this reason that when he saw Melodie, he was shocked by her haggardness.
"Melodie, what's wrong with you?" Wes quickly sat down beside Melodie, held her shoulders and asked anxiously.
Melodie finally got to meet his uncle who loved her so much. She felt the warmth of seeing a family member for a while.
Besides, she had gone through a lot lately so she pouted and cried more sadly.
Wes's heart was about to shatter.
It was the girl who Wes was willing to give his everything up for her.
Someone must have bullied Melodie. That was why she was so devastated.
Usually, Wes wouldn't even dare to speak a single harsh word to her, but now...
Looking at Melodie, who was crying more and more miserably, Wes felt anger boiling inside him.
"Melodie, what happened?" Wes's voice was filled with anger. "Did Marty bully you?"
Wes swore in his heart that if Marty really dared to mistreat Melodie, he would not let Marty off even if he would lose all the connections he had built over the past many years through hard work and effort.
Melodie knew that Wes always doted on her.
When she heard this, she immediately knew what Wes was planning to do.
In fact, she wanted to complain about Marty to Wes, but after she could guess what he was thinking, Melodie didn't dare to say anything off the top of her head.
Marty had indeed let her down. That was a fact.
If she could make things difficult for Marty, of course, she would be elated.
But if Wes were to fight to the death with him...
To be honest, Melodie really cared about the connections Wes had accumulated over so many years.
As a result, after sniffling and crying for a while, Melodie sorted out the mess in her mind.
She couldn't let Wes mess with Marty, because it was not worth it.
"I'd better make things difficult for Evelyn instead." Melodie thought.
This would not only make Evelyn suffer, but also save Wes from trouble. Most importantly, didn't Marty care a lot about Evelyn? She would like to see how Marty would react.
At the thought of this, Melodie suddenly cried out loud.
Melodie's sudden loud cry scared Wes.
Looking at Melodie who was choking with sobs, Wes's heart almost broke.
"Good girl, don't cry." Wes hastily coaxed Melodie.
While Wes was racking his brains to figure out who had made his precious niece so sad, Melodie suddenly told him the identity of that person.
"Wes, Evelyn bullied me..."
"Evelyn?"
When he first heard this name, Wes was a little stunned.
Who was Evelyn? A celebrity who was on the C-list?
Then he suddenly recalled his meal with Jeffrey.
During the meal, Jeffrey received a phone call. Wes asked the person at his desk and was told that it was his fiancée, Evelyn, who called Jeffrey.
Thinking of this, Wes immediately asked Melodie, "Is she Jeffrey's fiancée?"
Melodie was stunned, then sobbed and nodded.
Wes frowned. "How did she bully you?"
Melodie lowered her head and pouted her lips in grievance. There was a flash of malice in her eyes, and then she spiced up the incident that night and told him.
In Melodie's words, Evelyn had become a sl*tty woman. Even after she engaged to Jeffrey, she was still throwing herself at Marty shamelessly.
On the other hand, Marty had turned into a lecherous, disloyal man, in her words.
Wes instantly flew into a rage.
"Marty, great job. I didn't even say a word when you grew distant from me just because of him and now he's going to abandon you for a woman shameless like that?"
When Melodie saw this, she quickly consoled Wes. "Wes, it's alright. It's all Evelyn's fault... Alas, after all, she's such a charming woman. Who would not fall for her?"
However, the more Melodie put it this way, the angrier Wes became.
Just when Wes was indignantly chiding Evelyn and Marty, and Melodie was consoling him, he suddenly received a phone call.
"Wes, the female lead has been decided by the sponsor, but that actress does have a few basic acting skills."
"Who is it?" asked Wes, holding back his anger.
"Evelyn Hussain."
Wes narrowed his eyes slightly and said with a cold smile, "Okay, I got it."
The staff on the other end of the line felt a little strange. He had no idea why Wes was so angry.
However, he didn't care. He only thought that Wes was in a bad mood right now.
After Wes hung up the phone, he clicked open the list and the information of all the actors and actresses received from the staff.
He scrolled to find Evelyn was the female lead of the series. The corners of his mouth curled up into a cold smile right away.
Wes showed the photo of Evelyn to Melodie. "Melodie, is she the woman who bullied you before?"
Melodie took a look at the series' name and was stunned.
Pieces of Mountain and River? That famous screenplay?"
