Chapter 616 Truly on Good Terms
Pursing her lips, Evelyn comforted. "This has nothing to do with you, mom. There are so many douchebags in this world. We can't expect ourselves to be lucky all the time and not meet any of them, right? Furthermore, now that he has been arrested, it will not happen again. Don't blame yourself any more."
Only then did her mother respond with a peace of mind.
Then, Evelyn hung up the phone after telling her what she should look out for when signing the divorce agreement.
At nine o'clock in the evening, Marty came back.
Meanwhile, Evelyn was sending away Carrie, who had come to deliver some things. Before she entered the house, she noticed a familiar car approaching.
So she came to a halt and waited for the car to approach her, after which she curled her lips slightly.
When Marty got out of the car, Aria was following behind.
Besides, Aria brought over a suitcase.
Afterward, Marty explained, "I heard from Carrie that she was going to bring your things over. Since it was difficult for her to take it, I asked Aria to carry it directly here. Take a look and see if it's right."
Evelyn was stunned when she heard that. Her attention was then drawn to the suitcase, which she recognized as the one she normally used.
Pursing her lips, she asked, "Are you planning to keep me here for a long time?"
Marty chuckled as he heard this.
Then he instructed Aria to carry the suitcase inside. When they walked in, he put his arm around her waist and asked, "Where else do you want to stay?"
Upon hearing his response, Evelyn was stunned.
Somehow, she had the impression that he had won her over, even though she didn't do anything.
Later, Aria left after putting the suitcase down.
Seeing that Marty had a long day, Evelyn was debating if she should return home. However, she was a little embarrassed to bring it up right away.
Instead, she asked with concern, "Have you had dinner?"
In response to her question, Marty glanced at her and said gently, "No."
"I'll make some pasta for you, alright?"
"Alright."
Not only did he not decline, but there was even a smidgeon of a smile in his eyes.
When he looked at her, he seemed to be staring at a rare treasure that had fallen into his hands.
Evelyn couldn't figure out what he was thinking because of the way he looked at her.
She then turned around and went to the kitchen, attempting not to overthink it.
Fortunately, there were sufficient ingredients at home, and they were simple to prepare.
After a short while, she cooked a bowl of seafood pasta.
In the meantime, Marty took the opportunity to shower upstairs.
When he came down, the noodles had been prepared and placed on the table. The vibrant colors of the dish made it looked particularly tempting.
The aroma of the food wafted around the room as Marty sat down at the table and complimented with a smile, "You are very good at cooking."
Upon hearing the compliment, Evelyn immediately remembered the bowl of pasta she had made for him the previous time.
She felt a burning sensation in her cheeks instantly.
Marty picked up the fork and started to eat without much thought.
"Is it good?" Evelyn asked, nervously looking at him.
Unexpectedly, he frowned.
She became anxious all of a sudden.
Although she knew how to cook, she hadn't cooked for a long time.
Normally, even when she had some free time on set, she wouldn't want to lift a finger, let alone cook.
Therefore, even if she had time, Carrie was the one who prepared her meals.
She hadn't cooked in a long time, so she didn't have as much faith in her cooking as she figured.
When she saw Marty's frown, she quickly smiled awkwardly and said, "Don't force it if it doesn't taste good. I'll order food delivery."
With that, she got up and was ready to make a phone call.
However, just as she stood up, Marty grabbed her by the wrist.
He then pulled her into his arms with just a bit of strength.
Before Evelyn could react, she felt the world spinning, and she was already on his lap when she finally came to her senses.
As Marty wrapped his arms around her waist and drew her into his embrace, he lowered his gaze and said with a grin, "I'm just joking. It's delicious! There's no need to order food delivery."
Only then did Evelyn know he had done it on purpose to fool her.
She punched his shoulder hard, her anger rising. "Why are you so naughty?" she said as she gritted her teeth.
At that time, Marty was smiling brilliantly, a feeling of pleasure emanating from him.
He couldn't conceal his joy as he looked down at her.
"Yeah, I'm naughty. So, in the future, you'll have to watch and discipline me."
His low, hoarse voice, followed by a slightly hot breath, blew into her nose as he spoke.
For some reason, Evelyn suddenly blushed.
As he lowered his head slightly, the gap between their faces became narrower.
Their faces were so close that she felt she would kiss his thin lips as soon as she lifted her head.
Evelyn was uneasy as she was wrapped in his embrace, his after-shower fragrance enveloping her.
It was difficult for her to breathe because she felt as if she were being blown around by a fresh breeze.
"Don't, don't do this."
She then reached out to gently push his chest.
But Marty smiled. "I didn't do anything. You were the one who fell on me."
Upon listening to that, Evelyn widened her eyes in shock.
"Say it again if you dare!"
Seeing her reaction, Marty couldn't help but laugh, but he had to admit it. "Okay, fine. I pulled you on purpose. Evelyn, are we finally on good terms now?"
Hearing that, Evelyn was stunned.
It was because she didn't notice the subject had shifted!
Marty sighed as he observed her stunned expression.
Then, he touched her head. "I understand. I've done much too much harm to you. While you did forgive me the last time, it was just because of the circumstances and emotions at the time. You must also hold a grudge against me."
"I don't know what to do to dispel your concerns. Well, you are the only person in this universe who can make me feel helpless and powerless at the same time."
"Evelyn, I have experienced a sense of defeat from you that men should not have. Therefore, it has made me hesitant to ask again."
"But I'm afraid that if I don't ask, you'll always have your heart guarded against me. Then, we will never fully understand each other, and we will never be together."
"So, I'm going to ask you again. Evelyn, are you willing to be my girlfriend?"
Evelyn sat there in a daze, totally losing her senses as she stared at him.
In fact, she hadn't expected Marty to be so thoughtful.
He even knew about how she felt deep down.
Though, she had already agreed to be his girlfriend temporarily.
She still had a lot of reservations in her heart.
At that time, although she had already fallen deeply in love with him, she was scared and refused to take the final step.
