Chapter 489 Not Interested In Power

Anderson didn't deny it either. He just continued to smile joyfully as he nodded his head seriously.
"Well, I will only bully you."
He said as he played with her fingers. The warm sunshine shone through the window, making them feel relaxed from head to toes.
Clarissa felt uneasy because of him. She pushed him away with a smile and said, "Don't do that. It's itchy."
"Honey... Are you feeling better?"
Clarissa frowned. "What do you mean by that?"
He suddenly pulled her hand.
"You... "
Clarissa's face immediately turned red. Just when she was about to stand up, Anderson grabbed hold of her.
Anderson buried his face in the nape of neck as he breathed in the fragrant scent of her hair. It was a quiet and warm moment.
"Don't go. Just stay with me for a while."
He said softly in a gentle tone, and the surroundings were warm and quiet.
Clarissa's back stiffened, but she didn't move anymore. She hugged his shoulder to comfort him.
Since she was pregnant, Anderson had been very protective of her. They had only slept in the same room a few times.
Previously, they would do it every night they slept together and most of the time, they would do it more than once.
Now that he had been abstinent for nearly a year, it must have been hard on him.
After an unknown period of time, Anderson gradually let go of her.
Only then did he raise his head and pinched her chin with his slender fingers, forcing her to turn her head around to look at him.
"What were you thinking about just now? You looked unhappy."
Clarissa tousled her hair and said in a muffled voice, "Nothing."
"You're still lying to me?"
He narrowed his deep eyes. Under his gaze, Clarissa finally had no choice but to tell the truth.
"Harrison came this morning and told me something about the Hampden family."
Anderson was stunned.
He pursed her lips. "What did he say?"
Clarissa told Anderson everything that Harrison had told her.
"I'm actually quite hesitant. On one hand, I don't want to get myself involved in the matters of the Hampden family. To be honest, they are way too complicated. Besides, it will be going against my intention to live a simple life."
And, moreover, I always feel that I don't have any feelings for them. If I really have to do something for them, I will do it reluctantly and they won't be too happy about that."
Anderson chuckled.
"Haven't you thought about how much power and wealth you will gain if you were to take over the Sapphire family?"
Clarissa was stunned.
She looked at him in a daze, blinking her crystal clear eyes.
"I have never thought about it. I don't need power and wealth. All I want is you!"
She suddenly laughed. Reaching out to hug his neck, Clarissa shared the most captivating smile ever.
"I have you, I have children. I can do what I like to do and play whatever role that I like. I'm satisfied with everything that I have right now. I really don't need too much. Having too much would mean that the burden on my shoulder would be much heavier and the sacrifices that I have to make would be so much greater. And I don't want to do that. I just hope that I will be able to enjoy the simplest form of happiness and warmness in my life."
Anderson's heart swelled.
He suddenly grabbed the back of her head and kissed her deeply.
This kiss was full of complex emotions and surge of love, as well as a trace of indescribable joy. It was like a wild beast that broke out of its cage, washing over her.
Clarissa screamed in a muffled voice.
"Anderson! You..."
The long, passionate kiss melted in the warm afternoon sunshine.
After an unknown amount of time, Anderson finally let go of her. The two of them had already rolled onto the carpet from the couch.
Fortunately, it was getting cold so the carpet was replaced with very thick ones, so Clarissa didn't get hurt.
Kneading her butt, she stood up and complained, "What are you doing? You gave me a fright."
Anderson smiled and held her in his arms.
"Nothing, I just love you very much."
Clarissa's heart skipped a beat.
Anderson was never a sweet-talker. But every time he gave her sweet talk, even if it was a simple sentence, it could easily make her heart beat faster.
She looked away uncomfortably and stammered, "You only love me now?"
"No, I've always loved you."
He chuckled, bowed his head to kiss her again. But this time, it was a light kiss, gentle and affectionate.
Clarissa couldn't stand him like this.
If it was really a passionate kiss, she would be fine with it as she would be in a daze and didn't know anything anyway.
On the contrary, Clarissa couldn't stand slow, light kisses like this.
It was like a feather brushing the tip of her heart, itching but never giving her the satisfaction that she needed.
Gradually, Clarissa could not take it anymore.
She let out a soft groan. "Anderson..."
"Yes, I'm here."
"Can you..."
She bit her lip in embarrassment. Anderson chuckled and let go of her. "Well, I won't torture you anymore, otherwise, you will be insatiable and do something that is bad for your health."
Clarissa was speechless.
She gave him a coquettish stare and said, "Stop pushing your luck."
Anderson was just laughing. In the face of her coquettish reproach, he never talked back.
Clarissa looked at his calm and gentle smile and suddenly thought of what Harrison had said before. She was a little distressed.
"Seriously, what do you think I should do about this? I think he's essentially saying that if I don't take the matter into my hand, I'll be in deep trouble in the future."
She tousled her hair in annoyance and said, "I'm not afraid of them but they could be very annoying if there are a numerous of them."
Anderson smiled and stoked her hair. In a gentle voice, he said, "Have you thought of another way?"
Clarissa looked at him with a frown. "What other way?"
Anderson shook his head helplessly.
He stretched out his finger and tapped gently on her forehead.
Anderson's tone was full of doting. "You're so deeply involved that you're lost in it."
He sighed softly and said, "Have you heard of the saying 'to strike at the root'?"
Clarissa was stunned for a moment, and then her pupils dilated as realization hit her.
"So what you're saying is..."
Anderson nodded.
"If you really don't want it, then let go of it completely. In this way, the Sapphire family has nothing to do with you anymore. But Clarissa, you have to think about it carefully, because once you do it, there will be no turning back."
Clarissa stood there in a daze, as she dived in her thoughts.
After a while, Clarissa said firmly, "I've decided, I'll do it."
A few days later, all the members of Hampden family received an email.
There was a very short video attached to the e-mail.
Clarissa was wearing a long maxi dress, with a knitted sweater of the same color outside. She was sitting under a pergola in the courtyard.
The content of the video was very simple. Clarissa was making it clear that she was not interested in being the patriarch of the Hampden family, nor  was she interested in the The League of Sapphire. Therefore, anyone who wished to pull tricks on her could stop doing so. As for who would take charge of the family eventually, it would be dependent on their own capabilities.
