Chapter 667 Play Golf
As she spoke, she raised her head to look at him all of a sudden and asked, "Your mother's name is Charlotte, isn't it?"
Although Marty had mentally prepared himself, when his mother's name was called, he felt slightly awkward.
But, he did not reveal any emotion, as he nodded calmly. "Yes, do you know her?"
This time, the smile on Sue's face was much warmer.
"Yes, I know her."
How could they not know each other?
Charlotte was the person she had been looking up to since she was a child!
And Charlotte had treated her like her younger sister too. To Sue, she was like a big sister that she adored since she was young.
It was a pity that fate made fools of them. Sue was the one who had let her down. Until today, she was too ashamed to see her!
As she thought of that, her gaze darkened.
At this moment, 'ding' was heard in the elevator. As the sound penetrated the silent atmosphere, it had undoubtedly saved their awkwardness.
Looking at the floor number on the elevator, Sue and said, "That's me."
With a nod, Evelyn and Marty watched as she walked out of the elevator, while Evelyn waved goodbye at her in a friendly way.
"See you next time, Sue."
Turning around, Sue nodded politely towards them and left.
Then, the elevator went up another two floors before it arrived at the floor where Evelyn and Marty were staying.
While Evelyn held Marty's arm and walked to their room, she asked, "Marty, do you think she is really the woman in the photo in your dad's book?"
Instantly, Marty's face darkened slightly as he nodded with certainty. "Definitely."
Confused, Evelyn knitted her eyebrows.
"But didn't you say that woman had already died more than 20 years ago? Why is she here?"
In fact, Marty couldn't understand this either. However, since Sue looked so similar to that person, and she even knew his father and mother, she was most likely that person, without a doubt.
Thinking of this, he moved his lower lip and said, "I don't know the details. I'll find an opportunity to ask Dad some other day."
Seeing this, Evelyn knew that there was no better way at present, so she nodded.
When they returned to their room, Marty called to order a meal, and he sat on the couch with Evelyn to watch TV.
A few minutes later, the food had arrived.
It was Evelyn's favorite Catfish Stew. Marty picked out the fishbones for her and put the meat into her bowl, then said, "Eat more. We can do some activities later in the afternoon. You'll need energy. Don't tell me you're hungry after a while."
As Evelyn obediently ate the fish he took for her, she asked, "What's the activity?"
"Do you know how to play golf?"
After thinking for a moment, she shook her head. "No."
Hearing her response, Marty smiled. "It doesn't matter. I'll teach you."
And Evelyn didn't say anything further.
After lunch, they took a break for another hour. It was not until half-past three in the afternoon that they changed their clothes and went out.
The golf course was very large. At the time of the day, there were not many people.
After Evelyn selected a lighter golf club, she stood at the spot and let Marty teach her.
Then, Marty wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and held the club in her hands. After adjusting the direction and angle, he taught her how to exert her strength.
While doing that, he said, "Look, just stand there, gently wiggle your waist, and swing in this direction. Yes... Now you try."
Pursing her lips, she usually didn't like outdoor exercises, so this was her first time playing golf. It would be a lie if she said she wasn't nervous.
Following the method that Marty had taught her, she tried to aim for a good direction, then clenched her fists and used all her strength.
"Bang!"
Surprisingly, the ball actually went into the hole!
In an instant, Evelyn's eyes lit up in surprise and cheered. "Oh my god. I got it!"
With a smile, Marty said happily, "Not bad. You're quite talented."
With her first victory, Evelyn was very happy. At first, she was not enthusiastic about golf, but since she scored a goal, she was extremely excited.
"I want to play again!"
"Alright, you can play."
She was probably born to have a talent for golfing.
As for the following strokes, she only missed three of them because she was not confident about it, but she managed to score the rest.
At that moment, Evelyn was overjoyed.
However, whilst she was happy, Marty was a little annoyed.
Initially, he thought he could get affectionate with her through golfing so the activity would be romantic.
After all, if he had to teach her, he had to hold her from behind as the two stood on the lawn. How romantic would it be?
But somehow Evelyn had too much of her sporty genes? He had just demonstrated once, and she actually learned it already.
And her skills were showing signs of surpassing his skills?
How could this be tolerated?
Seeing that, Marty wasn't convinced as he held the club and wanted to challenge her.
However, as a beginner, Evelyn was not afraid of him. Now that he had proposed a challenge, nobody would back down anymore. It was a competition!
Hence, the two of them stated the rules to see who could score the most.
After all, it was Evelyn's first time playing. No matter how talented she was, both her skills and physical strength couldn't keep up with Marty, who had been training for a long time.
So it didn't take long to have a huge gap difference in their scores.
When she saw the score, she knew that it was almost impossible for her to win this time. However, she became hot-tempered and tried harder to compete.
But sometimes, trying hard was not enough for this sport.
Furthermore, it was highly dependent on one's mindset.
It was easier to score when the mindset was at peace. Once the anxiousness kicked in, it would be difficult to score.
Later, Evelyn had missed five stokes. Gradually, she became anxious. In addition, the weather was relatively hot, and her hair was wet with sweat.
When Marty had scored several strokes, he turned to look at her and noticed she was looking anxious. Suddenly, his heart softened.
After thinking about it for a while, he pretended to miss three of his strokes.
This time, Evelyn scored again, and immediately, she cheered with joy.
When she looked at the score again, she realized that she was only two scores away from Marty.
Two scores were still acceptable. She felt that with a little luck, she could definitely catch up.
So, she looked at Marty provocatively, curling her lips, and said, "What do you think? If you want to admit defeat now, it's not too late."
As Marty squinted his fox-like eyes, he smiled slyly.
"Don't be happy too soon. It's not certain who will win yet."
With a snort, Evelyn then said, "Who says that it's not certain? Let's make a bet, or else it's quite boring to just play for fun. What do you think?"
When Marty heard her suggestion, he raised his eyebrows and didn't refuse.
"Okay, what do you want to bet on?"
As Evelyn thought for a while, she realized that since they were married, they shared everything, and there was nothing good to put up for a bet.
