Chapter 894 Her Story

"You want me to go out of Jara's sight and out of the bodyguard's protection range, then knock me out and let them take me away, right?"
This time, Josie did not deny it.
"Yes."
Emmeline's heart sunk gradually. "Why? It's because I'm not kind enough to you? Why did you betray me?"
As soon as she finished, Josie's eyes darkened. "You're really nice to me, but in this world, words can't solve everything."
"I'm sorry, I don't want to hurt you, but I have no choice," she added softly.
"Why don't you tell me what made you do such an immoral thing?" Emmeline scoffed.
Then, Josie looked at her and suddenly gave a self-deprecating smile.
"Don't try to get any information from me, Emmeline. Let me tell you the truth. Even if you were to rebel against me, it would be useless. In their eyes, I am nothing more than a tool. You are not the only one being watched; I am as well. So, instead of wasting your time on me, think about how to cope with your brother, who has unexpectedly appeared. He is the head of this operation."
Although she exposed Emmeline's plan, Emmeline didn't become enraged.
She responded, "Tell me your story, as well as your story with the association."
She was certain that there must be many stories about Yunne, and that even if these stories were accurate, they would be useless to her.
It was also possible that she would find a flaw, allowing herself to escape.
Seeing this, Yunne did not refuse. After all, she still had some compassion and loyalty toward Emmeline, so she sat down opposite her and began to tell the story carefully.
"Let's start with my name. Actually, I'm not Yunne. My real name is Josie."
Emmeline's body trembled slightly, even though she had long known.
Because if she managed to sneak into the castle without Jara finding anything strange with her, her name couldn't possibly be real.
Only by disguising one's identity could one fool others into thinking nothing was wrong.
Seeing Emmeline didn't speak, Josie continued, "I'm not lying to you. I'm indeed an orphan. My mother passed away after giving birth to me. I was then raised by a grandma in an orphanage."
"Grandma was really nice to me. However, she was so old that she could no longer manage the orphanage; thus, it was her two sons who did so at the time."
"Her two boys are not decent people. They made a lot of money by using their mother's name, and they are quite brutal to orphans."
"They would beat and scold us at will. Besides, they wouldn't give us food or clothes. What's more, they would pick up a lot of work from the outside and delegate them to us."
"They claimed it was to train us, but in reality, we were just a tool for them to make money."
"Later, they progressively became dissatisfied with the little money they earned from human labor, so they turned their attention to the girls."
"At that time, a mysterious person came to adopt an orphan, claiming that he could provide the orphanage a large sum of money to do so. Despite knowing that the person had bad intentions, the two brothers welcomed him."
"Unfortunately, I was chosen as one of the orphans. Grandma refused to let them take me away at the time, but she couldn't fight the two brothers."
"We were all taken away and imprisoned on an island for inhumane training. During that period of time, grandma had been trying to find me."
"I was 15 years old when I came out later. My grandma was still alive, thankfully, but her two sons had fled their hometown due to gambling."
"The orphanage was closed due to the deaths of two children at the time. Although grandma was innocent, the incident had harmed her reputation."
"Everyone said she was making money while harming people in the name of good intentions. But only I was aware that all had anything to do with her. It was all the fault of her two sons."
"I could not bear to see her being bullied in that small town, so I took her away. But I had never told her where I had been in recent years."
"I just told grandma that a rich family adopted me, but I escaped because they mistreated me."
"She was too naive. She didn't doubt me at all. Later, we lived together."
"But in fact, I was already a member of the Icarus Association."
"The mission I was given was to go undercover and monitor Jara's movements in his castle. We just need to follow their orders in the following cases."
"I've been in the castle for over three years. I haven't received any orders in the past three years. I nearly have a delusion at times."
"I somehow felt that the training did not exist at all. They might have forgotten about me by then, so I didn't have to do the things they had arranged for me."
"But how could they have forgotten? They had all chosen us with consideration. Each one was perfectly placed for them to use."
"Just as I was filled with excitement and thinking that I could live the lives of regular people in my dreams, they appeared."
"They shattered my typical dream. They assigned me the task of poisoning you."
Speaking of this, she paused and stared at Emmeline. "Well, you're still unaware that the cook, Lilly, is also one of us, right? But we didn't know each other before she took action."
"Her movements were too sluggish. She even exposed herself after poisoning you. I stood there watching her die, but I couldn't save her."
"Anyway, I don't think I can protect her. After all, what does she have to do with me? I don't love that organization. It's just that there's nothing I can do about it."
"Finally, it's my turn. They gave me two poison bottles. They are the two essential oil bottles I gave you."
"In fact, I didn't make them. I don't know how to make those things. There's a kind of divine water that can confuse one's mind."
"I used it on you based on what they ordered, so you were afterward led by the nose."
Emmeline frowned.
She then said in a low voice, "But I suspected you at the time, so I gave Jara the bottle of essential oil to examine. However, the results indicated that there was no issue."
