Chapter 915 Discovering Any Abnormalities

To relieve stiffness, Emmeline stretched her arms above her head as she walked.
As she was doing this, she replied to Clarissa, "Quite good. I don't particularly feel anything bad."
Clarissa remembered what Jara told her. "The doctor mentioned it will take a few days for the residue effects of the sleeping pills to go away."
"Is that so?" Emmeline thought for a moment and smiled. "Maybe. I don't feel anything now but a little drowsy, and I just want to sleep."
"That's the residue effects."
There were a few minutes of silence. Suddenly, Clarissa asked, "By the way, I'd like to find out from you. Were you tortured or otherwise abused when you were kidnapped? Or were you just locked up in the room all the time?"
Before the rescue, Jara had explained the situation to Anderson and Clarissa.
Jara wanted to discuss the rescue with Anderson and Clarissa as they were just as experienced as he was. His discussion with them would help to strengthen his rescue plan and identify any risk he might have overlooked. He was also concerned that the kidnappers might have done something to Emmeline, so he asked Anderson and Clarissa to have doctors on standby.
So, Clarissa knew about the strange room Emmeline was imprisoned in.
Emmeline replied, "I don't remember any abuse. But, my mind is not clear... It seems nothing of that sort."
Her answer surprised Clarissa. She frowned as she thought carefully then asked,
"You don't remember? Why is it that you don't remember?"
Confused, Emmeline shook her head and replied,
"I don't know either."
Suddenly, Emmeline felt distressed. She pressed her hands against her head and started shaking. She blurted out.
"I don't know why. Ever since I'm back, my mind is out of control, and I'm always in a daze."
Clarissa was getting more worried and asked further,
"Is it very uncomfortable? Are there any other symptoms besides being in a daze?"
"Other symptoms...I don't have any other symptoms."
As Emmeline replied, she came to a sudden stop.
Immediately, Clarissa stopped too. Suddenly, Emmeline's face turned pale with pain, and she squatted down, clutching her head.
Clarissa was shocked.
The rope fell from her hand, and the two dogs chased after one another and ran away.
There was no time to worry about the dogs. Clarissa immediately squatted down to support Emmeline. She asked anxiously, "Emmeline, what's wrong? Are you all right?"
Emmeline could not speak. Her lips were stretched taut in pain, and her face was white as a sheet. She continued to press her hands against her head.
At this moment, Clarissa was panic-stricken.
"Emmeline, don't scare me! Are you feeling all right?"
As she spoke, she quickly took out her phone to call Jara.
Emmeline stretched out her hand and stopped Clarissa before she could call.
In a faint voice, she whispered to Clarissa, "I'll be fine. Don't call him."
Although Clarissa was very worried, she stopped and looked at Emmeline with a frown.
After a long while, Emmeline looked like she recovered slightly.
Her forehead was covered with cold sweat. She was so weak that she could hardly move.
She glanced at Clarissa and said, "I'm all right now. Don't worry."
Seeing that Emmeline could speak, Clarissa helped her to stand up.
"What is going on? Just now, you..."
Tired, Emmeline whispered, "The headaches started from last night. They won't last long. I'm all right once the headaches pass."
Clarissa looked very worried. Then, Emmeline smiled weakly and explained,
"Don't worry. Last night the doctor did a full check. There's nothing wrong with me. I guess these headaches are the result of the overdose of medicine. When the residues of the medicine are flushed out, I'll be all right."
Clarissa did not know if Emmeline was telling the truth. It was clear that Emmeline did not want Jara to know. On the contrary, Clarissa must tell Jara about this.
So, Clarissa only nodded and said with concern, "We need to be careful about this. Why don't you let the doctor check you one more time?"
After a moment's thought, Emmeline agreed, "All right. I'll call for the doctor in the afternoon."
Seeing that she had agreed, Clarissa finally felt relieved.
The two of them resumed their walk.
They got to know each other better after walking around the garden for a while.
By nature, women were more gregarious than men. Within that short one hour or so, the two ladies had become fast friends and would readily talk about anything.
Another reason was that both of them shared the same temperament, being honest and straightforward.
Even though they just met, they were like old friends.
They were still enjoying each other's company during lunch.
Jara and Anderson could not help but smile at how well the two ladies took to each other.
After Clarissa finished lunch, she dragged Anderson back to their room for her nap.
Emmeline was wide awake as she slept too much earlier on.
So, she asked Jara to fill her in on the happenings in the castle while she was away.
What she knew was what Clarissa ran through in the morning. There were a lot of gaps, and she wanted to know more.
Therefore, she intended to ask for more details.
Jara did not plan to tell her so much. She was so insistent that he had no choice but to comply.
He had nothing to hide from her. They grew up together and knew each other too well. They never hide anything from each other to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and worries.
It was better to have everything out in the open. Anything not said would lead to unnecessary worries and misunderstandings.
Emmeline sat by quietly and listened as he slowly told her about what happened.
Occasionally, she would refill the teacups as he continued talking for about half an hour.
With a serious expression, Jara began to relate what happened, "This is how it happened. Our hands were tied when you were kidnapped by them. Now that you are back, the situation is different. I promise you. It doesn't matter if it's the Icarus Association or the Marsh family, whoever is behind your kidnapping will get what they deserve. I won't let anyone involved in this matter get away easily."
The way he made his promise reminded her of when she was a child and was bullied on the street. Out of nowhere, this young boy patted her and assured her that he would help her to even the score.
Her heart warmed to his words, and she smiled.
"I know. However, this matter has gotten out of hand this time. I am a little worried..."
Jara stretched out his hand and grabbed hers.
