Chapter 353 Found The Evidence

Old Master Levine said in a deep voice, "Clarissa, this butterfly toy was found in her room. Isn't it just a proof that the murderer is her? As for motive, it doesn't matter if she refuses to say it now. When she suffers a little later and knows that it's useless to quibble, she will naturally spill it out."
Clarissa frowned.
She didn't expect that Old Master Levine was a person who would make decisions arbitrarily.
Clarissa shook her head and said in a deep voice, "No, you're wrong. Although this butterfly toy was found in Maggie's room, it doesn't mean that it belongs to her."
As soon as she said that, everyone was confused.
They all looked at her with confusion and didn't quite understand what she meant.
Gillee sneered and said, "If that doesn't prove that she is the culprit, then what can?"
"Of course, we have to look for more detailed evidence!"
Clarissa held up the butterfly toy and showed to everyone. She said loudly, "Look at it carefully, everyone. Although it looks ordinary, if you look closely enough, you will find that part of its wings is wet. I just took a sniff of it. It smells of perfume. Previously, I couldn't tell whose perfume it was. But just now, when someone passed by me, I had smelled it on her. Only then did I remember that the scent is Armani's latest perfume— "The One"."
Everyone knows that this perfume was very popular when it first came out, and it is quite expensive. Maggie is only a maid. Her annual salary is probably not enough to pay for such an expensive perfume. If the butterfly really belongs to her, how can there be such a strong perfume smell? It seems to me that someone was trying to cover up the truth by planting the butterfly in her room to frame Maggie!"
Everyone was shocked upon hearing this. They had never expected such a simple incident would turn out to be so complicated.
Lara's expression changed slightly as panic flashed in her eyes.
Someone asked, "Then who is the real culprit?"
Clarissa curled her lips slightly and tilted her head to look at Lara with a small smile on her face. "What a coincidence. I happened to catch a whiff of this smell when Lara passed by me. Lara, would you care to explain yourself at this moment?"
Lara's expression changed completely all of a sudden. Her eyes widened as she stammered, "Clarissa, I don't understand what you are talking about!"
"Oh? Still don't want to admit it? It doesn't matter.  According to my speculation, the wings must have gotten wet because the perfume was accidentally broken or spilled out rather than a spray! Lara, can I have a look at your bag?"
Lara was so flustered at the moment. Just when Lara was about to refuse her, Old Madam Jordan had already tipped Nora, who was beside her, the wink. Nora got her message and immediately snatched the bag from Lara.
"What are you doing? Clarissa, it's not me..."
Before Lara could finish her sentence, Clarissa had already opened her handbag.
As expected, there were water stains inside Lara's handbag. It was full of aroma and obviously a result of a perfume spill.
Lara looked at Clarissa as her face quickly turned pale.
Clarissa turned around and handed her bag to Old Master Levine. She sneered and said, "I was right. Anyone who doesn't believe me can come forward and have a look. Have a sniff and tell me if I've wronged her!"
Everyone was stunned at how quickly the tables had turned.
After they came to their senses, they couldn't help staring at Lara in disbelief. All of a sudden, everyone was discussing it.
"How could this be? Lara is the one!"
"This is unbelievable. I thought she was a kind person when I saw her plead for mercy for the servant just now! I didn't expect her to be the real culprit!"
"It seems like Miss Lara has been trying to divert suspicion away from herself. D*mn, she's good!"
"If it wasn't for the fact that she is caught red-handed this time, I would really think that she was a kind person!"
"The more I think about it, the more eerie it gets. It's too terrifying!"
The low whispers quickly became louder and louder as everyone started to mock Lara.
Old Master Levine held the handbag and looked at the perfume stain inside. His face was contorted with rage.
Even Gimmy had furrowed his brows in dismay.
"Lara, how do you explain this?"
"I... "
Lara was speechless for a moment. She had never thought that Clarissa would be so observant that she even found out the evidence that she thought she had hidden well.
Therefore, she hadn't thought of an excuse.
She hesitated for a while. Seeing that Lara had nothing today, Clarissa said with a sneer, "You've been putting this butterfly toy in your bag and looking for an opportunity to hurt Anne. But you didn't expect that you would spill the perfume accidentally, which made the butterfly reek of perfume smell.
"After the incident, you were afraid that you would get caught, so you planted the butterfly into Maggie's room. You wanted to frame her so to get yourself off the hook but you didn't expect that you have left something on. Obviously, you can't absolve your guilt so easily."
At this point, what else do you have to say?"
Lara's face was pale.
She glanced at Clarissa before looking at Old Master Levine. She explained in a trembling voice, "Grandpa, I... I didn't harm Anne. I hold no grudge against her. Why would I harm her?"
Her voice was trembling and her face was pale. At this moment, Lara looked weak and pitiful, which was a sight Old Master Levine could not bear to see as he frowned.
Old Madam Jordan knew that Old Master Levine would definitely be biased towards Lara.
So she immediately said, "How do you explain the butterfly, and how Anne was pushed into the water?"
Lara hesitated for a moment and said in a low voice, "I admit that I did bring this butterfly here to let Anne play with it, but I swear that I mean no harm!"
Someone said sarcastically, "You've already admitted yet you still said that you mean no harm. You just contradicted yourself."
Quinne forced a smile and chimed in. "Perhaps Lara really has her difficulties of doing so too. I hope that everyone could listen to her explanation before making wild guesses."
Seeing how Quinne had spoken out, the man could not say anything more so he could only keep his mouth shut.
Lara continued, "At that time, I took the butterfly there to play with her. I wanted to give her the toy as a present after that. But I didn't expect that Anne would accidentally fall into the pool after chasing it to the pool. I was also scared at that time and wanted to reach out to grab her, but it was too late. I didn't manage to grab her.
When I saw Anne falling into the water, I was shocked and scared. I wanted to save her, but the people outside immediately gathered around as soon as they heard her scream.
I was afraid that people would think that I had deliberately pushed her down, so I ran away. I don't know what has gotten into me at that moment. Later, I was afraid that you would misunderstand me and blame me, so I put the butterfly toy in Maggie's room.
"Sorry, it was all my fault. I know I shouldn't have done that. I was really scared. I didn't mean to harm Anne."
