She raised her head, looked at Evelyn with some regret, and said softly, "I'm sorry, Miss Hussain. I am not feeling well and need to rest."
Evelyn said with a smile, "It's fine. I'm going back anyway."
After a pause, she then went on to say, "What is the matter with your health? My mom was also sick before, so I took her to Flaucford for treatment. That's why I know many good doctors. If there is any need, I can introduce them to you."
Sue gave a gentle smile and shook her head. "No, it's fine. It has been a long time and is incurable."
As she spoke, she turned to look at Clint.
"Let's go, Clint."
Clint nodded, helped her to her feet, and then walked out.
Evelyn watched them as they left for a long time before getting up and leaving.
However, not long after she left, an incident occurred.
In the parking lot downstairs of the mall, Sue and Charlotte ran into each other.
At that time, Clint went to get the car, leaving Sue to wait. Unexpectedly, a car stopped in front of her in less than two minutes, and Charlotte got out.
When they saw each other, they were both shocked for a moment before their expressions changed dramatically.
"What are you doing here?"
Charlotte was naturally furious. She glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, and then she drew Sue to a corner next to her.
Then, she glared at Sue and yelled, "Did not I say you were not allowed to return? Why did you come back? What the hell do you want to do?"
Sue was dazed and did not even have time to respond.
Suddenly, there was an engine sound, and then a black car next to them screeched before coming to a stop.
Clint stepped out of the car, scowling, and strode over to them. He pulled Sue, who was still in a daze, behind him.
"What are you doing?"
He yelled angrily.
Charlotte was unfazed by his roar. On the other hand, it caused Sue to come to her senses.
Panic flashed across her face as she stared at Charlotte in front of her. She quickly explained, "Charlotte, I... I didn't mean to return. Listen to me..."
However, Charlotte did not give her the chance.
She directly interrupted Sue. "Enough! Sue, did you forget your promise that year? No matter what, you can't go back on your words!"
Sue felt like her heart was being stabbed by a knife when she heard Charlotte's words. In a moment, tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Charlotte..."
Then, Charlotte looked at her and sneered, "What? Do you think that you can rekindle your relationship with him? Do you still want to seduce him? Sue, why are you so shameless? Why are you acting so pitifully? Do you think I will sympathize with you? In your dreams!"
"Shut up!"
Clint could not take it any longer. Regardless of Sue's impediment, he moved forward and drew her behind him.
Staring at Charlotte angrily, he said in a harsh voice, "Sue is a human being and has her own freedom. She is free to go anywhere. You have no right to interfere!"
Charlotte looked at Clint in front of her and then looked at Sue with an unbelievable sneer.
"Pft. I didn't expect that even at your age, there are still men who want to protect you."
Her gaze fell on Clint's face again. She gave a cold smile and asked, "Who are you? Her lover? Husband? Or nothing? Did she ask you to accompany her back?"
Clint's face darkened, and he said coldly, "You don't have to know about our relationship. Mrs. Blaine, you are an honorable lady. After all, you are sisters. Why do you have to be so rude to her?"
As Charlotte heard this, she felt as though she had heard an earth-shattering joke.
At first, she expressed her disbelief, but then burst out laughing.
"Honorable? This is so ridiculous. Did she tell you that we are sisters? Let me tell you now. We are not sisters anymore. We are not sisters anymore since twenty years ago since the day she shamelessly seduced her own brother-in-law!
As soon as Charlotte finished her words, everyone was taken aback.
Sue's face instantly turned ashen. Then, she stared at the cold-faced Charlotte with her body tensed up.
Her mind was filled with memories from the past, and tears fell over like a fretful stream over boulders.
"Charlotte, I really don't mean to intervene in your life. I just... I just want to come back for the last time to have a look..."
After, Charlotte sneered, "Have a look at what? A look at the guy you have coveted for so long, or at our lives to see if you have another chance to meddle in us again?"
"Sue, if I had known this earlier, why did I save you back then? Wouldn't it have been better if I let you drown in the sea? That way, you won't have to hide in pain, and I won't find it disgusting either. What do you think?"
Sue was stunned and took two steps back. Charlotte's words pierced her heart like knives.
After a long while, she bit her lower lip and shook her head.
"Charlotte, I know that no matter what I say now, you will not forgive me. In that case, I don't have anything else to say. Don't worry. I don't intend to do anything you mentioned. Since you don't want to see me at all, I will disappear and never appear in front of you again."
Charlotte looked at her and did not speak.
The coldness in her eyes said it all.
Afterward, Sue's eyes dimmed. After a while, she took another step back, bowed to Charlotte, and then turned to the car.
Clint frowned deeply when he saw this.
After casting a cold look at Charlotte, he didn't say anything but turned around and chased after Sue.
Later, Charlotte let out a deep sigh of relief as Sue got on the car and left.
Her expression remained solemn. "Find out when Sue came back and where she lives now," she said to the maid trailing behind her as she looked in the direction the car had left.
The maid seemed to be a little old, and she had been with Charlotte since she was a child.
Then, the maid nodded and respectfully replied, "Alright."
After giving the order, Charlotte felt better than before, even though she was still in a bad mood.
Sue's pale face came to mind as she recalled. She looked vastly different from how she had been when she was full of vigor.
Her eyes flashed with distress, but she did not say anything else. She then strolled into the mall.
