Chapter 919 This Is So Unfair
Aron did not know what to reply. He opened his mouth, "...."
Lauren laughed out loud, "Anderson is right. Tonight you should drink more and keep quiet. When you marry this beautiful girl beside you, then you can talk."
Furious, Aron downed a glass of red wine.
Then, he turned to Jara and complained, "Dude, you better hurry up. You don't get married or cannot get married is up to you. These people are ganging up on us. Once you get married, I'll do the same right after you."
Jara glanced at him but did not rebuke him.
The atmosphere over dinner was lively and fun. This was the first time that Lauren was here. So, she was not familiar with the social customs and culture. After dinner, she clamored to go out and have fun.
However, Clarissa, Aron, and the others were not keen to go out. In the end, Jameson had no choice but to accompany Lauren out.
After she left, Clarissa and the others started to play cards in the living room.
They played a card game that was popular with the locals. Emmeline needed to teach Clarissa a few times before she learned how to play.
To make the card game more exciting, Emmeline purposely took out a box of cash and declared, "Tonight, there is no owing of money. Whoever wins or loses must pay up in cash."
Aron was shocked when he saw the amount of cash in her box and exclaimed,
"My goodness, Emmeline, did you rob the bank? Where did that cash come from?"
After all, cash transactions were few in this century. Which family would keep so much cash in the house?
The money in the box was easily about a million.
Emmeline glared at him and rebuked, "None of your business! Where's your money? Show it."
Annoyed with her rebuke, Aron disputed,
"I'm only a visitor. I have about ten thousand with me. Nothing compares to you."
As he spoke, he flashed his wallet.
Clarissa also chipped in, "I don't have much cash either."
Her admission made Emmeline unhappy, and she frowned.
Finally, Anderson suggested, "How about this? Whoever loses can transfer the money through the cell phone. Cash needs to be counted and is a waste of time anyway."
Emmeline gave it a thought and agreed.
"All right. Let's add each other on PayPal."
Everyone did just that, and the card game started.
Clarissa had mixed fortunes and ended up not winning anything.
However, Emmeline showed her skills and kept winning. Poor Aron was a different story.
He did not win once throughout. His hand of cards was always beaten by Emmeline's.
In frustration, Aron yelled, "Emmeline, are you playing cheat? Tell me, are you up to your tricks?"
Emmeline laughed and pushed away his hand that was about to touch her cards, "Get lost! Do I need to play cheat with you? I can win against you with my eyes closed."
Sore from losing, Aron continued to yell, "No, that's not fair!"
"Hurry up, transfer the money over to me!" Emmeline yelled back at him.
The room rocked with laughter.
From a short distance away, Jara watched them and smiled.
He did not interrupt them and quietly left the room.
Clarissa noticed him leaving, and her heart missed a beat. Somehow, she felt that Jara was acting strange.
However, she did not think much or asked Jara about it. In a good mood, she continued to play cards.
The card game lasted from eight till midnight.
When the game ended, Emmeline won the most money. Clarissa won a little but she would not have won if Anderson did not help her.
Anderson had a simple strategy. He would not interfere when Clarissa was playing steadily.
When she could not decide which card to play, he would then drop some hints.
It might only be one move but it always helped her to win.
After a few rounds of the game, Emmeline and Aron were unhappy with Anderson. They insisted family members were not allowed to sit beside the players and give advice.
Clarissa laughed at their childishness. There was nothing she could do, so she asked Anderson to play chess with Jameson instead.
Chess was more to Jameson's liking than cards. The two of them went to the chess room and stayed there all night.
When the card game ended, Clarissa was hungry and asked Emmeline, "Are you hungry?"
Emmeline replied, "Now that you mentioned it, I do feel a bit hungry."
Then, Clarissa said, "How nice if we can have some hot snacks now."
Listening at the side, Aron jumped in, "Count me in!"
Instead, Emmeline glared at him and rebuked, "It's so late now. Why don't you go home? There aren't any snacks here."
Her rude reply infuriated Aron, and he shook his fists as he spoke, "You won so much money from me. Can't you give us some snacks? I don't care. I must have some snacks here."
Of course, Emmeline was just joking with him. She then said,
"All right, we'll have some snacks then. What's with the fuss?"
With that, she went to the kitchen and asked the cook to prepare some snacks.
When Emmeline reached the kitchen, she realized that Anderson and the others were not with them. She went back and asked Clarissa, "Do Anderson and the others want any snacks?"
Clarissa thought for a moment and replied, "I don't know. Wait a minute. I'll ask them."
Emmeline nodded.
Then, Clarissa went to look for Anderson in the chess room.
Before entering the chess room, she saw Anderson and Jameson standing in the corridor a short distance away.
She was puzzled, but Anderson spotted her before she could ask.
Anderson put his finger to his lips, telling her to keep quiet. He waved her to come over.
Clarissa was surprised and not sure what he meant.
However, she still went over as he had indicated and saw that they were looking at a clearing.
Jara was squatting in the clearing, intently fiddling something.
Brimming with curiosity, Clarissa asked, "What is he doing?"
With a smile, Anderson replied, "You'll know shortly."
The way he kept her in suspense made Clarissa even more curious.
At this moment, Jara had finished fiddling. He turned around and asked, "How's it? Is the position correct?"
Anderson checked the iPad he was holding and gave Jara the thumbs up.
Then, Jara turned and walked over.
When Jara reached the corridor, only then he saw Clarissa standing there.
Her curiosity got the better of her, and she asked, "What's that you're doing just now?"
Jara smiled, "It's nothing. Just some useless toys."
Clarissa did not like what she heard, and she frowned.
Intuitively, she knew Jara was hiding something.
However, since Jara would not say, she could not keep asking.
