Chapter 929 Having Ulterior Motive

However, Jara didn't seem like he was joking at all.
At a time like this, Uncle Poick finally realized that he was serious.
Suddenly, his heart sank.
"Then what should we do now?"
For a moment, Jara was silent. "We can only take it one step at a time."
With that, he went upstairs.
Upstairs, Emmeline was sitting on the balcony, enjoying the cool breeze.
In fact, the weather was no longer hot in this season. Perhaps there was a lot to worry about, so Emmeline felt slightly uneasy at that moment.
It wasn't until she sat there and felt the cool breeze blowing on her face that she felt a little better.
Hence, when Jara came up, she didn't notice him at all. It was only when she felt a warm sensation on her shoulders that she reacted.
Turning around, she raised her eyebrows upon seeing him.
"Are they all gone?"
"Yes."
As he spoke, he walked over and sat down beside her. Stretching out his hand, he wrapped it around her shoulders and pulled her into his embrace.
Emmeline leaned on his shoulder willingly as she gazed at the stars in the sky. Then she whispered. "What did Luca say to you today?"
When Jara heard the question, his body stiffened suddenly.
A faint smile appeared on Emmeline's face.
"Actually, you don't have to hide it from me. I already knew. When Luca came here today, I know that he must have come for a reason. Since we offended him previously, he definitely came with ulterior motive today."
As she spoke, she straightened her back and turned to look at Jara.
"Guess what I found when I was sorting out the gifts today?"
Jara's brows were deepened, but he didn't reply.
Subsequently, Emmeline took out a box and opened it.
There were a few golden pills that were as thick as a finger in the box.
With a smile, she said, "I saw this, and it was from Luca. There is also a note in it, asking me to take one every ten days. He is not a doctor. How did he know what kind of illness I have and what medicine to take?"
At this point in time, Jara knew that things could no longer be kept under wraps any longer.
Clearly, Emmeline had known the truth for a long time.
Looking at her, he asked in a low voice, "Do you really want to know?"
Emmeline nodded.
"Okay, I'll tell you."
Thus, Jara told her what Luca had said to him today.
Although Emmeline had guessed that there was something else in this matter, she couldn't help but felt shocked upon hearing the story.
Then, Jara continued in a deep voice, "According to what he said, you are a member of the Marsh family. This is a sort of hereditary disease that has been circulating within the family."
"As you said before, your mother should have nothing to do with the Marsh family, so the only remaining possibility is your father. Do you still have any memories of your father?"
Upon hearing that, Emmeline frowned. After thinking about it for a while, she shook her head in the end.
"No, I don't have any memories of him. I... don't remember if he ever appeared in my life."
Hearing this, Jara wasn't surprised.
For all those years, he grew up with Emmeline and they stayed in Blink City together. He had never heard Emmeline mentioning anything about her biological father.
Then, he stroke her head and said, "It doesn't matter. If you can't remember, then don't think about it anymore."
"So, are we going to the Marsh family's Mid-Autumn Festival next month?"
Jara looked deeply at her, "Yes, your illness can't be delayed. They left four pills on purpose, didn't they? Obviously, they have calculated that we would definitely be going. We should go then! Even if it's a lion's den, we must find out the truth."
As she heard the words, she laughed out loud.
"Okay, let's go together then."
Surprisingly, Jara did not reject.
After all, this matter was related to Emmeline's health, and there was no point in him going alone.
After the two of them had agreed on this plan, they felt at ease.
In the evening, after Emmeline fell asleep, Jara instructed Quan. "Go and investigate the identity of Emmeline's biological father."
Immediately after Quan accepted the order, he left to follow through.
Meanwhile, on the other end.
In the quaint manor thousands of miles away.
When Coby heard that Luca had already delivered his message, the corners of his lips curled up slightly.
Rowan, who was beside him, still didn't quite understand what he was trying to do.
"Sir, why do you ask Luca to convey the message? Is Emmeline really a member of Marsh family?"
While feeding the fish, Coby answered. "Have you ever seen anyone else in a different family in this world having this kind of disease?"
Lowering his head slightly, Rowan replied, "No, I haven't."
Then, Coby added lightly. "Her father was an escort servant at my side. Although he is not my direct descendant, he has been by my side for many years, so he was basically like a direct descendant to me.
"Later, he met a woman and betrayed me. From then on, he escaped from the Marsh family, and we no longer heard from him. When I heard about his news, he had died of illness.
He left behind a child and his wife. So, I didn't pursue this matter any further. I thought that without the family's secret medicine, the child wouldn't live long. I didn't expect her to be alive until today."
As he spoke, he seemed to have recalled something and a faint smile appeared on his face.
Seeing that, Rowan was extremely curious.
"Then the reason you wanted the kid to come to you this time is..."
Coby threw the last piece of fish food into the pond and said, "Cara cannot wait any longer."
When the words came out, Rowan, who had always been calm, was completely startled.
Except for him, the name Cara hadn't been known to anyone else.
Other than him, no one knew that the Chief of the Marsh family was actually another person and Rowan was just a puppet who was willing to show face.
Upon receiving the news, Rowan was silent for a while.
Then he carefully asked, "Is it because you wanted them to find the Jade of Heaven for you?"
Coby nodded.
"That thing has a side effect on me. Based on my progress, perhaps I might not be able to gather all of it in another hundred years. The solar eclipse is just around the corner. If I miss it this time, I'll have to wait another hundred years, and I can't wait any longer."
Upon hearing that, Rowan nodded silently.
"If that's the case, what do you need to prepare for that day? I'll give the order."
But Coby replied lightly, "No. When they arrive that day, just bring them to me directly."
Rowan nodded. Seeing that he had nothing else to say, he left.
In the blink of an eye, a month had passed.
Every year, the Marsh family would hold a Mid-Autumn Festival.
During each year's banquet, only the people from the Marsh Family could attend and outsiders were not welcome. Thus, when everyone saw Jara and Emmeline walking in, they were all surprised.
However, Luca, who was hidden in the crowd, was not surprised at all.
Although he was not a direct descendant of the Marsh family, it was obvious that the Chief trusted him by giving him this task.
